North Lake Tahoe Shortest Day of the Year | December 21, 2024

It’s here! Today is the shortest day of the year in North Lake Tahoe, California, Saturday, December 21, 2024!

This time of year, is always hard for me. The days are short and dark. I miss the sunshine and warmer days. What can I say, I love the long days!

Most people don’t realize how much daylight is lost in the North Lake Tahoe area until we get through the shortest day. It’s almost two (2) minutes a day! That means from November 21 through December 21, we’ve lost about one hour of daylight!

After today, we’ll start gaining that extra two minutes, which means by January 20, 2025, we will have gained that lost hour of sunshine back as we march towards the longest day of 2025, which will be June Friday, June 20, 2025!

While our local ski resorts have already opened, another thing that happens on the shortest day of the year, we also mark the winter solstice and the official beginning of the 2024-2025 winter season here in North Lake Tahoe- Truckee area!

The seasons have changed! Winter is here! Another year is ready to come to a close in just a few days and we keep moving forward!

So before this winter season becomes more amazing memories captured in your photographs – enjoy the snow – enjoy the moment!
