Finding homes for sale on the West Shore of Lake Tahoe begins at the “Y” (stop light where Hwy 89 S and Hwy 28 meet) in Downtown Tahoe City and moves south.
Communities that are included in the West Shore of Lake Tahoe are Tahoe City – West Shore, Homewood, Tahoma, Meeks Bay, and Rubicon Bay. This area covers about fourteen (14) miles of Lake Tahoe shore line.
Tahoe City has homes and neighborhoods located on both the North Shore and West Shores of Lake Tahoe, so if you want to see all Tahoe City homes for sale, be sure to look at a search that is not limited to just one shore.
You’ll find lakefront homes, beachfront, waterfront, newer construction mountain homes, classic Tahoe cabins, log cabins, A-Frames, Modified A-Frames, cottages, luxury properties, and houses that need some TLC and are ready for that make-over.
Large acreage properties are hard to come by on the West Shore of Lake Tahoe. If you’re looking for acreage, consider properties that back to “open space” areas that will give owners the feeling of a larger parcel, even though the lot size is typical for the area.
If you are looking for a lake view property, your options will be limited on the West Shore of Lake Tahoe.
If you’d like to have lakefront amenities, but are not in the multi-million dollar price range, consider a property that is located in neighborhood that has a lakefront home owners’ amenity option – planned unit development/neighborhood.
A subdivision with a lakefront area for all home owners use can give a non-lakefront property owner access to a shared pier, buoy access, private beach area, and other recreational amenities by having a neighborhood home owners’ membership.
In the Tahoe area, this is typically referred to an Home Owners Association (HOA) membership, but may membership may not be mandatory, so ask what amenities may come with each property you are considering.
