37th Annual Great Ski Race Tahoe City, CA, Sunday March 3, 2013The annual Great Ski Race will be held Sunday, March 3, 2013, and is the primary fund raising event for the Tahoe Nordic Search and Rescue Team (TNSRT).  The TNSRT is a non-profit group that is based with an all-volunteer organization.

The first Great Ski Race was held in 1977 with 60 racers.  This year they expect over 1,000 racers, making this one of the largest Nordic ski races west of the Mississippi River today.

The Great Ski Race will begin at the Tahoe Cross Country Ski Area in Tahoe City and ends at the Cottonwood Restaurant/Hilltop Lodge, in Truckee, California.  The 30 kilometer (18.43 mile) race covers beautiful terrain with views of Lake Tahoe, Squaw Valley, and the Sierra Nevada mountains.

Last year, the snow conditions prevented the Great Ski Race from happening.  This year, we have plenty of snow, and the event is scheduled for tomorrow morning.

If you don’t ski but still want to take part in all of the fun, be there at the 9 a.m. beginning, or at the end of the race to cheer your favorites on!  Past winners have finished the race in just over 1 hour so if you want to see who wins the Great Ski Race you’ll need to be at the finish line before 9:45 a.m. to see who crosses the line first.

As of  March 1, 2013, there were only 7 condo units available for sale.  The condo inventory levels for West Lake Tahoe are very low, which is a reflection in the changing market conditions as we move from a buyers market to a sellers market.  West Lake Tahoe Condo prices range from $147,000 to $3.2 million.

Snow Castle in Squaw Valley, Kid-O-Rama Week February 2013 Squaw Valley is known for its premiere skiing, and luxury resort living. This week, February 15 – 23, Squaw Valley will host a week long children event with their Kid-O-Rama extravaganza, featuring a real life sized snow castle!

The Kid-O-Rama extravaganza is just in time for the President’s Holiday weekend! What a great way to spend the winter holiday than by enjoying all that Lake Tahoe and Squaw Valley have to offer!

Don’t let the name fool you, the Kid-O-Rama event will offer non-stop fun for kids of all ages. New this year is an enormous castle made entirely of snow located at the SnoVentures Activity Zone, which is located by the Far East Express chair lift at the east end of the Squaw Valley Village parking lot in Olympic Valley, California 96146.

The snow castle is 5,000 square feet and was built using 30,000 cubic feet of snow and features four towers, three slides, and four staircases.  Check out the Squaw Valley Snow Castle here:  

The Kid-O-Rama Castle is now open daily from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and is FREE to tour. The castle will remain open provided weather conditions permit use.

Saturday, February 16, 2013, 2 p.m. – 5 p.m. Kid-O-Rama Street Party Meet in the Events Plaza at the Village at Squaw Valley for the Kid-O-Rama Street Party featuring, a DJ, face painting, and glow sticks galore.

Saturday and Sunday, February 16 and 17, 2013, 5p.m. – 7 p.m. SnowVentures Party and S’mores After checking out the Kid-O-Rama Castle, enjoy s’mores.

Saturday – Saturday, February 16 -23, 2013, 9:45 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. Teen Group Ski or Snowboard Lessons – Teens (ages 13-18) can ski, or snowboard on Squaw Valley’s terrain with friends their own age and similar ability levels every morning of Kid-O-Rama week. Special pricing – $89 for lesson only, or $149 for lesson and lift ticket. Save $20 by booking online three days in advance. Call 1-800-403-0206 to book a reservation.

Thursday, February 21, 2013, 3p.m. – 5p.m. Kid-O-Rama Big Truck Night Who isn’t impressed by a big truck, or the massive machinery that it takes to make the ski mountain a great place to be. This is your chance to check out the big trucks and equipment that make the mountain work. Meet the drivers who operate these machines at the Tram Promenade (next to the Funitel) in the Village at Squaw Valley.

Friday, February 22, 2013, 1 p.m. – 4 p.m. Kid-O-Rama Dance Party on Ice The party on ice will take place at the High Camp in Squaw Valley. Ice skating is $12 for adults, $6 for kids. Fee includes skate rentals, but does not include the Tram Ticket fee to get to High Camp.

Saturday, February 23, 2013, 11 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. Snowbomb Lil’ Air Mountain Festival Children 12 and younger can show off their park skills. Registration is $10 on the day of the event and there are prizes for all participants. Meet at the SnoVentures area at Squaw Valley. Registration is from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m., ad practice is from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m.

All Week Long – February 15 – 23, 2013, The Crafts Room will be Open The kids craft game room will be open all week in the Palisades Room in the Village at Squaw Valley. Kids can play ping pong, air hockey, foosball, and cornhhole, along with arts and crafts. Game room is $10 per child, and complimentary to Village guests.
