Truckee 4th of July Parade – North Lake Tahoe 2015As a kid growing up in a small rural town the 4th of July was a big deal.  For days we’d pester our parents to take us to the annual 4th of July parade.  Throw in a BBQ picnic, sometime at the swimming pool that afternoon (okay it was really a fresh water pond), and fireworks at the fairgrounds, and life as a child was pretty sweet! 

Later in life I’d get to march in that 4th of July Parade and to this day, I still remember the personal pride and excitement that I had to be part of that an annual local event that celebrated our freedom and our nation’s birthday.

If you’ll be in the greater North Lake Tahoe area and you’re looking for a 4th of July Parade to watch, you can enjoy this holiday tradition by watching the Truckee 4th of July Parade on Saturday, July 4, 2015 starting at 10 a.m. in Truckee, California.

Yes, this is all about leaving the big city behind, and it is the best celebration of what small town living in all about – pride, citizenship, and a sense of community, not to mention a lot of home-town fun! 

This may be corny, but there is a certain childhood delight that comes from watching our local Tahoe Parades.  It’s a step back in time when it was all about the people in the parade and what they have created. 

It’s all about placing your hand on your heart as American Flags march past you.  It’s about the sound of the local high school band, drill teams, and cheering for our men and women in their military dress uniforms. 

This years’ Truckee 4th of July Parade theme is “Live-Work-Play-Truckee” and with fifty (50) entries it should be a great event. 

The 4th of July Parade begins at the Truckee High School (11725 Donner Pass Road) and will travel down the Donner Pass Road ending in Downtown Truckee covering a 1.5 mile parade route.  

Get there early and pick out your spot along the parade route.  Temperatures will be in the 80’s so bring a camping chair, perhaps an umbrella, and a bottle of cold water.  I’m hoping I’ll find some delicious tasty treats to enjoy once I’m there, but this is what I’ll start with.

Parade starts at 10 a.m. and will end at approximately 12 noon, Saturday, July 24, 2015

Parade Route 1.5 miles starting at the Truckee High School 11725 Donner Pass Road and ending in downtown Historic Truckee

Cost:  Admission Free

Homewood Fine Arts and Crafts Fair, July 3 – 5, 2015It’s that time of year when we’re lucky enough to have the Arts and Crafts Fairs return to the North Lake Tahoe area.  

If you’ll be up here in the greater Homewood area for the 4th of July holiday weekend, don’t forget to check out the Fine Arts and Crafts Fair on the West Shore of Lake Tahoe this weekend.

You’ll find unique crafts, art, and jewelry at the Pacific Fine Arts and Crafts festival this weekend, July 3 – 5, 2015 at the Homewood Ski Resort parking lot.

I know there are a lot of things to do over the 4th of July holiday weekend, but if you like to shop, or just want a little me time this smaller fine arts and crafts event in a nice way to spend an hour.  I know you’ll enjoy going from booth to booth looking for that special piece of art, pottery, jewelry, trinket, or unique item that will remind you of your trip to Lake Tahoe.

This is always a great opportunity to talk one-on-one with many of the artists that made the creation and learn the story, or inspiration for the piece.  

You’ll find jewelry, paintings, pottery, glassware, clothing, and so much more.  You’ll discover some amazing treasures here in Lake Tahoe. Located at the Homewood Ski Resort, 5441, West Lake Blvd., Homewood, California, you’ll want to stop and see all of the items for sale.  

The Fine Arts and Crafts Fair in Homewood is free to the public.

Motors in the Mountains Squaw Valley, July 4, 2015It’s the 4th of July weekend in Lake Tahoe and we have so many great events to go to that it will be hard to do everything, but if you’re a car lover then  you’ll want to check out the Motors in the Mountains in Squaw Valley on Saturday, July 4, 2015.

The beautiful Squaw Valley Ski Resort mountains will be the back-drop setting for 75 cars that will be on display this Saturday th 4th of July in the Squaw Valley preferred parking lot.

You’ll see Classic Cars, Exotic Cars, Modern Super Cars, and Rat Rods.  There will be food trucks, BBQ, and music from 2-5 p.m. by Jacked Up.

So after you’ve watched the Truckee 4th of July Parade, your next stop will be the Motors in the Mountains event at the Village in Squaw Valley where you can check out the cars, enjoy the music and have a bite to eat.

You’ll still have time to hit the beach and then get ready for the Tahoe City, or Truckee Firework events in the area.

Beerfest and Bluegrass, Northstar, July 3, 2015Ready to celebrate this 4th of July weekend? Check out the Beerfest and Bluegrass at the Village at Northstar today, Friday, July 3, 2015.

It’s the day before the 4th of July and if you’re in the greater North Lake Tahoe area and you like to taste beer and the sound of Bluegrass music, this is the event for you today at the Village at Northstar starting at 3 p.m.

Northstar does a great job with their events, and with temperatures today in the low 80’s it will be the perfect day to taste ice cold beers, at last count they planned on having thirty-two (32) breweries, and sit back and enjoy some great music (two great Bluesgrass bands)!

For the designated driver, or those that are younger there will be non-alcoholic beverages and a BBQ also available for purchase, along with activities for the little ones.

Kings Beach Fireworks and Beach Party - July 3, 2015It’s here!  Summer is in full swing, and it’s going to be a fun 4th of July weekend here in the Lake Tahoe – Truckee area!  

Holiday events start with the annual Kings Beach, July 3, Fireworks and Beach Party, today in Kings Beach, California starting at 4 p.m.

You’ll enjoy an evening of music and food at the Kings Beach Annual Fireworks Celebration & Beach Party, today, July 3, 2015.

The Kings Beach fireworks event will happen on Friday, July 3, 2015 from 4 p.m.-10 p.m. at the North Tahoe Event Center and the Kings Beach State Park Recreation Area.

Entry into this annual event is free, but “Preferred Seating” is $15 per ticket and is available online at www.NorthTahoeBusiness.org

This year there will be food, a beer garden (must be 21+ years), music, games, live entertainment, glow toys, and souvenirs.

There will also be Free Contests – Sand Castle Building, Patriotic Costumes, and a Watermelon Eating!

Once the sun sets there will be a wonderful fireworks display over Lake Tahoe at around 9:30 p.m. If one night of magic in the sky over Lake Tahoe is not enough for you to celebrate America’s Birthday – “Happy Birthday America”, then plan on being over in Tahoe City on Saturday night, July 4, 2015 to watch their 4th of July Fireworks display!

We have so many fun, great events going on this holiday weekend all over the North Lake Tahoe area, it will be hard to do them all!

Summer time in Lake Tahoe is always a special time of year, so if you haven’t made plans to come up to the North Lake Tahoe and Truckee area, now is the time to take a good look at your calendar and plan a trip up here and enjoy all that North Shore of Lake Tahoe and the surrounding area has to offer.
