Tahoe City Grape Stomp, Tahoe City, CA September 6, 2013

Fall is in the air here in here in Tahoe City, and that means it’s time for the 28^th Annual Lake Tahoe Autumn Food and Wine event and their grape stomping event in Tahoe City! If you’ll be up in the greater Tahoe City area on Friday 6, 2013, be sure and stop by the Tahoe City Grape Stomp event.

The fun begins at 5 p.m. at the Cobblestone Mall in downtown Tahoe City and teams of four will compete and stomp their way to the winners circle!

It’s not too late to put your team of four together if you want to stomp grapes! The entry fee for the grape stomping contest is $25/person. If you don’t see yourself with grape juice squeezing through your toes, you don’t have to stomp grapes to have fun at the event. Everyone is welcome to come out, cheer on your favorites, and listen to live music.

Tahoe City Grape Stomp
When: Friday, September 6, 2013 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Where: Cobblestone Mall, Downtown Tahoe City, California

Cost: Free to those that are just watching – no admission charge.

The cost to entry the Grape Stomp event is $25/per person – teams of four or three people

Speedboat Beach, Kings Beach, California

If you’re looking for a beautiful sandy beach that away from it all, check out Speedboat Beach, in Kings Beach, California.

Speedboat Beach is a public beach, located on the North Shore of Lake Tahoe in the Lakevista neighborhood of Kings Beach, California on the Brockway point.

The setting here is wonderful and the sandy is like powder. There are huge boulders that make this area really interesting to look at. It’s a wonderful beach to spend the day at. The water in this area is shallow making it easy to wade in, swim, paddleboard, kayak, and because it’s shallow, the water tends to be warmer here.

If you don’t have directions to get to Speedboat Beach you will miss finding this one. There isn’t any signage on Highway 28 (North Lake Blvd.) indicating this is where you turn to get to this beach, so you’ll have to follow these directions to get to Speedboat Beach.

Directions to Speedboat:

On Highway 28 headed to the Nevada Stateline, just out of downtown Kings Beach headed east, turn right onto Speedboat Avenue (this is just before you get to the Nevada-California Stateline). If you miss Speedboat Avenue, make the next right turn on Harbor Avenue. If you miss both streets you’ll be at the Cal-Neva casino and you’ll know you’ve just past both streets.

Drive to the end of the either Speedboat Avenue, or Harbor Avenue (Harbor Avenue will interest with Speedboat at the entrance to Speedboat Beach), and you’ll find the entrance to Speedboat Beach at the end of both streets.

You’ll know you’re close by all of the cars parked on the street. Lakevista neighbors know where this hidden jewel is at, and street parking is extremely limited and at a premium so take advantage of any available parking spot.

The Speedboat Beach is maintained by the North Tahoe Parks Recreation Department a part of the North Tahoe Public Utility Department (NTPUD) and you’ll find this is a small beach. Speedboat Beach is not a dog friendly beach area, so keep that in mind if you’re going to be there for the day and are planning to take your dog.

If you have a four-legged friend and want to take your dog with you to the beach, you’ll have to go to on one of these North Shore beaches at either the Carnelian Bay public beach, or the Bristlecone Street dog beach area in Tahoe City, or to the West Shore and check out Hurricane Bay in Tahoe City.

It’s Labor Day weekend and Gar Wood’s restaurant in Carnelian Bay is going to send off the end of summer and celebrate Labor Day weekend with a big bang! Tonight, Sunday, September 1, 2013 they will have a spectacular fireworks display at 8:15 p.m.!

You may know Gar Wood’s for their beautiful lake view dining, or perhaps it’s their world-famous “Wet Woody” drink, or better yet the annual polar bear swim that they sponsor every year for the annual Snowfest event here in North Lake Tahoe. In the end, it doesn’t matter how you know about Gar Wood’s in Carnelian Bay, you just need to know to be there tonight, or be on the Carnelian Bay public beaches so you can see the fireworks show they are putting on!

It may seem that our Lake Tahoe summer fun is about to come to an end, but I disagree with that idea. The fall here in Lake Tahoe is one of my favorite times of the year, so get ready to have still have some late summer fun, and that starts with the Gar Wood’s fireworks display tonight!

Big Band Jazz Concert, Sugar Pine Point State Park, Tahoma, CA Sept. 1, 2013

Get ready to have some fun this Labor Day weekend at the free, outdoor, Big Band Jazz concert at the Sugar Pine Point State Park at the Ehrman Mansion in Tahoma, California. While admission is FREE, there is a parking fee of $10 per car.

Concert goers are encouraged to bring a picnic, low-back chairs, blankets, and be prepared to have fun. If you’ll be up in the greater Tahoma area, plan on coming out and listening to the music of CHOPS Big Band.

This Big Band Jazz Concert at the Sugar Pine Point State Park in Tahoma, CA is a fundraiser for the West Shore Association.

The West Shore Association is a non-profit group of local businesses that promote the West Shore of Lake Tahoe. Each year the West Shore Association puts on local community events, such as the Memorial Day Lake Tahoe Opening Events weekend.

Big Band Jazz Concert

When: Sunday, September 1, 2013 gates open at 4 p.m. for picnics, and the concert begins at 5 p.m.

Where: Ehrman Mansion, Sugar Pine Point State Park, Tahoma, California (Lake-side for event, parking on non-lake side)

Cost: Free admission to the concert, but parking is $10/car (Please no pets at this event.)

Beverages: Wine will be available for purchase. (Must be 21+ or older)

Donations of any size are greatly appreciated and accepted at the event.

If you love books and home-made baked goods and you’ll be in the greater Tahoma, California area on Sunday morning, August 25, 2013, be sure to check out the Meeks Bay Fire Ladies Auxiliary books and bake sale fund raiser at the Mariani Plaza (downtown Tahoma by the Tahoma Post Office) between 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The money that the Meeks Bay Fire Ladies Auxiliary raises will be donated to the Meeks Bay Fire District for much-needed equipment.

Today you can see and smell the wild fire smoke from fires that are burning out of our area here in the Lake Tahoe Basin. It is a great reminder of just how much we depend on our local fire departments to help and defend our homes and area when a fire breaks out.

There will be a great selection of books, including the “best-selling” Meeks Bay Fire Ladies Auxiliary cookbook with recipes from some of Tahoe’s best chefs, a great assortment of home baked goods, Meeks Bay Fire T-Shirts, and Teddy Bears for sale!
