Blood Drive, Rotary Club, Tahoe City, Wednesday, October 9, 2013

Blood Drive, Rotary Club, Tahoe City, Wednesday, October 9, 2013 The banner is up in Tahoe City ~ “Save a Life” Blood Drive!  This Wednesday, October 9, 2013 from 12 noon to 6 p.m. the Rotary Club is sponsoring a local blood drive in Tahoe City at the new Tahoe City Fire Station.

No appointment is necessary, just show up and give.  If you’re going to give blood here are a few blood donation tips:

  • Eat well and drink plenty of fluids prior to giving blood.
  • Bring a photo ID
  • Have a list of all medications you may be taking.

Why give blood? There are many reasons why you should consider giving blood.  Perhaps you know someone that has been ill and needed a transfusion.  Perhaps you just want to pay it forward for the “just in case” day for yourself.  Perhaps you just believe that it’s the right thing to do.  Regardless of why, or what your reasons are, the need for blood is high and your contribution counts!

If you can’t make the Tahoe City Blood Drive tomorrow, and you still want to donate blood, check out the Rotary Club Truckee Blood Drive on Thursday, October 10, 2013 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Veteran’s Hall, 10214 High Street in Truckee, California.

IRONMAN Lake Tahoe – Volunteers Needed, September 22, 2013

September 18, 2013 By Laura Allen, Broker Associate, Tahoe Real Estate Agent, CA RE 01473598 | 530-414-1260

IRONMAN Lake Tahoe – Volunteers Needed, September 22, 2013

IRONMAN Lake Tahoe – Volunteers Needed, September 22, 2013 The inaugural IRONMAN Lake Tahoe event will take place this Sunday, September 22, 2013 here in the North Lake Tahoe area, and the event will need over 3,100 IRONMAN volunteers needed to help make this event a success!

This is a big deal for Lake Tahoe.  It is a big athletic event with over 2,500 athletes participating and over 10,000 visitors coming into the area for this special event.

If you’re not familiar with the IRONMAN events the IRONMAN event is the superman of triathlons, and the IRONMAN Lake Tahoe event will become one of strength, training, endurance and emotional stamina combining three physical events that all are done on one day – swimming, biking, and running.

The swimming event will take place in Kings Beach, California on Sunday morning with the Pro’s starting the race off at 6:30 a.m.

IRONMAN participants will swim 2.4 miles in this first phase of the competition.  Once they complete the swim portion of the contest, athletes will move onto the Bike Course.

The biking event will begin in Kings Beach, California right after the swim portion is completed.  The IRONMAN participants will begin their 112 mile bike ride in Kings Beach and move along the North Shore of Lake Tahoe moving through the Tahoe Vista area, then through Carnelian Bay with a detour up through the Carnelian Woods Condominium Development, and then back down to Highway 28 into Tahoe City.

Once they get to Tahoe City, they will then move onto Highway 89 South and head towards Truckee, California.

As the bicyclists reach Truckee they will follow a course that will take them through the Truckee area including downtown historic Truckee, and then out on Highway 267 heading back to Kings Beach with a detour through the Northstar area.

Once the bicyclists finish with the Northstar route they will climb up Brockway Summit (Highway 267) with an elevation of over 7,000+ feet above sea level, and then back down to Kings Beach, where they will once again bike back to Tahoe City following the same route they started with, but on this second loop, this time when they head back down the Truckee River corridor (Highway 89 South) they will end their ride in Squaw Valley.

In Squaw Valley the last leg of their triathlon will begin with their 26.2 mile race.  That’s right, they will end the race on a marathon.

They will start their run at the Village at Squaw Valley running back down Squaw Valley Road, then up to the Resort at Squaw Creek, and then down to Highway 89 South where runners will head back to Tahoe City along the bike trail that runs along the Truckee River.

Runners will turn around just before getting to Tahoe City, and then head back to Squaw Valley on the bike path where their IRONMAN race will finish.

Click Here to See the IRONMAP Maps of each event course along helpful information on the events.

As I write about what they athletes will try an accomplish this coming Sunday in the IRONMAN Lake Tahoe event, I can’t help but be in awe and admire their confidence to even sign up for such a physically grueling event.

As for me, I will watch these impressive athletes from all over the world compete.  I will stand by the side line and cheer them on.  I have also signed up to be a volunteer for this event.  I will be at the mandatory bike pick-up and check out in Squaw Valley from 5 p.m. – 8 p.m.

There are a number of pre-events that will take place in the days right before the event begins, but on the day of the IRONMAN event they will need volunteers to help with each step of the race.

On the day of the IRONMAN event, volunteers will begin at 5 a.m. and the race will officially end at 12 midnight. If you’ll be in the great North Lake Tahoe area, or if you are a North Lake Tahoe – Truckee second home owner, you may want to consider coming up and being a volunteer for the IRONMAN Lake Tahoe events.

They still need IRONMAN volunteers and your help, so click here to sign up!

If you want to do more than just be a spectator at the IRONMAN Lake Tahoe event this coming Sunday, September 22, 2013, consider being a volunteer, I am!

Speedboat Beach, Kings Beach, California

September 6, 2013 By Laura Allen, Broker Associate, Tahoe Real Estate Agent, CA RE 01473598 | 530-414-1260

Speedboat Beach, Kings Beach, California

Speedboat Beach, Kings Beach, CaliforniaIf you’re looking for a beautiful sandy beach that away from it all, check out Speedboat Beach, in Kings Beach, California.

Speedboat Beach is a public beach, located on the North Shore of Lake Tahoe in the Lakevista neighborhood of Kings Beach, California on the Brockway point.

The setting here is wonderful and the sandy is like powder.  There are huge boulders that make this area really interesting to look at.  It’s a wonderful beach to spend the day at.  The water in this area is shallow making it easy to wade in, swim, paddleboard, kayak, and because it’s shallow, the water tends to be warmer here.

If you don’t have directions to get to Speedboat Beach you will miss finding this one.  There isn’t any signage on Highway 28 (North Lake Blvd.) indicating this is where you turn to get to this beach, so you’ll have to follow these directions to get to Speedboat Beach.

Speedboat Beach, Kings Beach, California Directions to Speedboat:

On Highway 28 headed to the Nevada Stateline, just out of downtown Kings Beach headed east, turn right onto Speedboat Avenue (this is just before you get to the Nevada-California Stateline).  If you miss Speedboat Avenue, make the next right turn on Harbor Avenue.  If you miss both streets you’ll be at the Cal-Neva casino and you’ll know you’ve just past both streets.

Drive to the end of the either Speedboat Avenue, or Harbor Avenue (Harbor Avenue will interest with Speedboat at the entrance to Speedboat Beach), and you’ll find the entrance to Speedboat Beach at the end of both streets.

You’ll know you’re close by all of the cars parked on the street.  Lakevista neighbors know where this hidden jewel is at, and street parking is extremely limited and at a premium so take advantage of any available parking spot.

The Speedboat Beach is maintained by the North Tahoe Parks Recreation Department a part of the North Tahoe Public Utility Department (NTPUD) and you’ll find this is a small beach.  Speedboat Beach is not a dog friendly beach area, so keep that in mind if you’re going to be there for the day and are planning to take your dog.

If you have a four-legged friend and want to take your dog with you to the beach, you’ll have to go to on one of these North Shore beaches at either the Carnelian Bay public beach, or the Bristlecone Street dog beach area in Tahoe City, or to the West Shore and check out Hurricane Bay in Tahoe City.

Want to see what the Speedboat Beach area looks like? Check out this video on it.

If you’re looking for an out of the way beach in North Lake Tahoe, check out Speedboat Beach in Kings Beach the next time you’re up here in Lake Tahoe
