Oktoberfest Village at Olympic Valley – 2024

Fall is one of the best times to be here in the greater North Lake Tahoe – Truckee area!

The leaves have started to turn, and our temperatures while they have cooled off, are days are still warm and sunny!

September is almost gone, which means it’s time for the annual Oktoberfest event at the Village at Palisades Tahoe in Olympic Valley this Saturday, Sept 28, 2024 from 12 noon to 6 p.m.

We’ve had a long, wonderful summer, and it’s hard to believe in less than 100 days snow will be on the ground, and new sport season will have started and 2024 will be over.

As we say good-bye to summer, so now is the time to come out and celebrate the changing of our seasons at one of our fun Fall Tahoe events.

Personally, we love this annual event! How can you not enjoy being at the Village at Palisades Tahoe as it amps up its European vibe as it celebrates Oktoberfest!

There will be live music, authentic food (can anyone say bratwurst, or over-sized pretzel?), German brews, and fun games for all ages to enjoy!

Admission is $15/person day of event (free to kids 12 and under in age), you didn’t purchase tickets ahead of time.

There is a cost for beer, beverages and food, and those costs will vary depending on your personal selection.

The entry fee includes a donation to the High Sierra Lacrosse Foundation, so you can have fun, while helping out a great local group!

Let’s talk games! There will be a keg rolling race, a Brat Toss yes, the ever popular wiener toss is back again, and there is a Stein Holding Competition!

Here is the schedule of Games and Entertainment:

Oktoberfest Games are FREE to enter. First come, first to participate. Games have been moved to the Tram Circle this year!
GAME HOURS: 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Stein Race: 1 p.m.- Teams of (2) compete in a speed walk through an obstacle course.
Brat Toss: 2:30 p.m. – Toss the bratwurst onto a keg, with each round adding difficulty, last person standing wins.
Stein Holding Competition: 4 p.m. – Competitors hold a full, 1-liter stein in one hand at shoulder height. Last competitor holding full steins wins.

ENTERTAINMENT: 12 p.m. – 6 p.m.

Joe Smiell’s 20 Piece Bavarian Band – Events Plaza Music Stage
Alpentanzer Schuhplattler & Alpentanzkapelle Band – First Street Stage
Almenrausch Schuhpattler – Events Plaza Music Stage

BEER and FOOD (Cost will vary by item): 12 p.m. – 6 p.m.

Erdinger and Oktoberfest Craft beers from Sierra Nevada, Deschutes, FiftyFifty, Alibi, Truckee Brewing, BrewBill Brewing, Lagunitas, and more.
Root beer floats for the kids!
A Slice of Switzerland’s authentic cheese bread and dessert.

I have to admit, my favorite event is the Brat Toss event. You get one chance to toss your brat onto the top of a keg.

It’s not as easy as it looks, but so much fun to watch contestants try!

The Village at Palisades Tahoe will be featuring a German theme through-out the Village.

If you love to dance and sing along then you’ll enjoy the live music, where you’ll get a chance to be part of the action.

Feel like dressing up? You’re encouraged to wear traditional Lederhosen and dirndls, but it’s not required!

To get you in the mood there will be live Bavarian music played featuring Joe Smiell and his 20 piece Bavarian Band. They are awesome and their music will put a smile on your face!

Festival goers that are 21+ and want to enjoy great craft beers will purchase a commemorative beer glass/mug. Beer tickets can be purchased at the event.

For those younger in age, check out the root beer float station! Yes, I can tell you from personal experience this is a delicious, sweet treat too!

Craig (my better half in life) has really enjoyed the brats, beer, and the root beer floats!

For me I love the over-sized pretzel with mustard, along with an ice cold beer!

We’re expecting a beautiful, sunny, warm day, so dress accordingly. I think it will feel like late summer!

I know that after I’m done showing properties on Saturday morning, Craig and I, along with Finn, our almost three year old Irish Wolfhound dog will be headed out to Village in Olympic Valley to enjoy some Oktoberfest food and some great German beer!

Guitar Strings vs Chicken Wings – Olympic Valley – 2024

The unofficial end of summer, Labor Day weekend, has come and gone, but our local events in the greater North Lake Tahoe – Truckee area continue on!

This evening the Annual Guitar Strings vs Chicken Wings at the Village at Tahoe Palisades will happen, Friday, September 6, 2024!

If you love chicken wings and live music, you will enjoy being at the Village in Olympic Valley as six (6) restaurants and six (6) bands will face-off in this fun annual competition of sound versus taste!

While you don’t need a reason to come up to the greater North Lake Tahoe – Truckee area, this is a good and fun event for you!

Not only will you have some late summer fun, you’ll also benefit the Tahoe Institute for Natural Science.

Six bands will battle for a $500 cash prize and the six restaurants will fight for the bragging right and title to best wings, along with a trophy!

The Bands that are in the competition on Friday are:

Tongue and Groove
BoogieZoo
Vice Grip
Rogue
No Deal
Tim High & The Mighty

The bands will be playing twice during the evening with music in intervals from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Each band will play in front of a different restaurant that is in the battle for the best wings. The restaurants are:

Fireside Pizza
Rocker
22 (Twenty Two) Bistro
Tremigo Mexican Grill
Plumpjack

It’s time to celebrate the beginning of the change in our seasons with the annual Guitar Strings vs Chicken Wings competition in Olympic Valley this evening Friday, September 6, 2024.

Lake Tahoe and Olympic Valley area continues to offer fun activities for everyone to enjoy and our fall season is one of the best times to be in our area.

Our weather is great, but our early evenings will be cool. I would dress in layers and I’d wear/take a sweater, sweatshirt, or a light jacket so you’ll be comfortable in the shade in Olympic Valley.

Doors open at 4 p.m. and there are a variety of drink and wing packages, along with voting tokens options to purchase!

Music begins at 5 p.m. and the event goes until 9 p.m. at the Village.

Proceeds go to the Tahoe Institute for Natural Science, which is a non-profit group that is trying to educate the understanding of the natural history of the Lake Tahoe region. Last year this event raised almost $5,000 for the Tahoe Institute for Natural Science.

What a great way to support a local group and make a fun evening out of the donation!

2014 Nature Valley U.S. Alpine Championships – Squaw Valley, March 19 – 23, 2014

Squaw Valley will once again have the privilage of hosting the 2014 Nature Valley U.S. Alpine Championships in Squaw Valley, California, March 19 – 23, 2014.

Squaw Valley, California has once again been selected by the U.S. Ski and Snowboard Association to host the 2014 Nature Valley U.S. Alpine Championships, which will be the first competition in the United States since the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics.

The level of competition will be fierce with some of the fastest men and women viaing for the title of National Champion in Giant Slalom, Slalom, and Super G.

If you’ll be in the greater Truckee – Tahoe City area you’ll want to head on over to the Village at Squaw Valley for the officical welcome events for our Olympic Athletes and world class winter athletes to Squaw Valley.

There will be an Olympian Parade, video presentation, fireworks, and music. It’s a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the United States recent Winter Olympic metal winners!

Alpen Wine Festival – Squaw Valley, September 1, 2013

Its Labor Day weekend so get ready to have some fun at the 25^th Annual Alpen Wine Festival at the Village at Squaw Valley this Sunday, September 1, 2013. This is a great way to celebrate the beginning of the Fall season while tasting some great wines, listen to live music and participate in a silent auction and raffle, while benefiting the Can Do Multiple Sclerosis (MS).

You’ll enjoy sampling over 40 different Northern California wineries, along with some fun shopping at the silent auction. This year the event will start at 2 p.m. and go until 5 p.m.

The cost is a $40, which included a special commemorative wine glass, and all proceeds go to the Can Do Multiple Sclerosis, a national nonprofit organization sponsoring lifestyle empowerment programs for people with MS.

What a great way to spend an afternoon here in Tahoe than by sipping some great wines, doing some silent auction shopping, all while supporting a great organization!

New Year’s Eve Fireworks - Squaw Valley, California – December 31, 2012 If you’ll be in the Squaw Valley area on December 31, 2012, plan to be at the KT Base Bar area to watch the Free Fireworks that will start at 9 p.m. After the fireworks, if you’re over the age of 21, the Olympic House will be the place to be. A $10 cover charge at the door will get you in and you’ll be able to keep the party going and bring in the New Year in style!

New Year’s Eve – Squaw Valley, California – December 31, 2012

9 p.m. Fireworks at the Squaw Valley Village. Best viewing area will be at the KT Base Bar area, but if you have a view of the Squaw Valley ski slopes you’ll have a view of the fireworks!

9:30 p.m. until Closing – The Olympic House $10 cover charge must be 21+
