Oktoberfest – Squaw Valley – Saturday Sept 24 2016
Are you ready for Fall and that nip in the air? Check out the Oktoberfest event at the Village at Squaw Valley this Saturday, Sept 24, 2016 from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. to celebrate the changing of our seasons!
We have a lot of fun this year with festivals, street fairs and events all summer long, and we’re coming to the end of our North Lake Tahoe summer season and Oktoberfest in Squaw Valley will be a great event to go to this weekend
This Saturday, you’ll want to check out the Village at Squaw Valley for Oktoberfest 2016 as it turns itself into a mini Bavarian themed event with live music, authentic food (can anyone say bratwurst?), German brews, and fun games for all ages to enjoy! Admission is free to the event, but all beer sale proceeds will go to the High Sierra Lacrosse Foundation, so you’ll be having fun while helping out a great local group!
Let’s talk games! There will be a keg rolling race at 3 p.m., a Brat Toss at 4 p.m.. Yes, it’s ever popular wiener toss! I saw this event last year and you get one chance to toss you wiener onto the top of a keg. Not as easy as it looks and a lot of fun to watch. Everyone that gets their wiener onto the top of the keg moves on to the rounds of elimination until only one winner is still standing, and last but not least will be the Stein Holding Competition at 5 p.m.
The Village at Squaw Valley will be featuring a German theme through-out the Village and you’ll find German bratwurst with sauerkraut and other traditional foods.
To get you in the mood there will be live Bavarian music played featuring Joe Smiell and his 20 piece Bavarian Band, the Almenrauch Schuhplattler Bavarian Dance Troop, and the Alptentanzer Schuhplattler Dance Troop and Band.
Festival goers that are 21+ and want to enjoy a great German beer can purchase their first one for $10 that will come in a commemorative beer glass/mug, and all other beers will be $5 with your glass, and for those younger in age, check out the root beer float station!
I can tell you from past experience we did the brats, and over-sized pretzels, along with German Beer, and then later in the afternoon the Root Beer Float version. Everything was really good and we hope to do it again this year!
Love to dance and sing along? Then you’ll enjoy the live music, where you’ll get a chance to be part of the action. Feel like dressing up? You’re encouraged to wear traditional lederhosen and dirndls, but not required!
We’re expecting sunny skies and our day time temperatures should be in the high 60’s, possible low 70’s so you’ll feel the nip in the air but in the sunshine it will still feel like summer.
All you have to do is show up and soak it all in, but just in case bring along a light jacket, or sweatshirt – it’s the season to dress in layers!
If you’ll be in the North Lake Tahoe area this weekend check out this fun fall event. I know that after I’m done showing properties on Saturday, Craig and I are headed out to Squaw Valley to enjoy our late summer weather and some great German beer.
