The Sugar Pine Point State Park is located just south of downtown Tahoma, and north of Meeks Bay, California. This historic state park is home to the Hellman Ehrman Estate Historic House, which is only open for summer tours, and is the site of the 1960 Winter Olympic Winter Nordic Events, where in the summer you can walk along these historic trails, or in the winter cross-county, or snowshoe along the same trails as past Olympians.
This summer you’ll find a number of scheduled activities at the Sugar Pine Point State Park in Tahoma accessed directly off Highway 89 South (approximately 10 miles south of the “Y” in Tahoe City). You’ll see the park signs clearly marked on the highway.

- May 25, 2013: Historic Hellman-Ehrman Estate opens for the 2013 tour season. Daily tours through September 30, 2013. 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. mid June through Labor Day. Reduced hours and schedule for early June and September. For tour times call 530.525.7982 Cost is $10/Adults, $10/Children Ages 8 -17, Children under 7 are free.
- June 19, 2013: 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. Bear Brunch – Learn all about Lake Tahoe Bears. Brunch on the grounds of the Hellman-Ehrman Estate. Cost is $20/Adults, $10/Children 12 and younger. Space is limited. Reservations required 530.583.9911.
- June 22, 2013: Second Day of Summer Full Moon Kayak – West Shore Sports and Sugar Pine Point State Park partner together to foo a grand view of the moon rising over Lake Tahoe. No experience is necessary. Cost is $25/Adults, $10/Children 12 and younger. Includes park entrance, kayak rental, life vest and instruction. Space is limited. Reservations required 530.525-9520.
- June 23, 2013: Pine Lodge: An evening of Wine and Wisdom – A “behind the scenes” tour of the Hellman-Ehrman Estate, followed by fine wines and hors d’oeuvers and McAvoy Layne’s Mark Twain. Cost is $40/Adults. Limited seating. Reservations required 530.583.9911.
- June 29, 2013: 8 a.m. to 12 noon Community Fitness Day at Sugar Pine Point State Park. Sierra State Parks Foundation and Tahoe Tail Trekkers present a first ever American Volksport Association sanctioned 10K walk and 1.5K kayak event.
