27^th Annual Cushing Crossing – Squaw Valley Sun May 28 2017

There are so many reasons to love about living in the Lake Tahoe – Truckee area and our local Tahoe events add to the enjoyment and everyday fun of being here.

Get ready to have some real laughs, along with being impressed at those that will attempt the 27^th Annual Cushing Crossing in Squaw Valley, today, Sunday, May 27, 2017.

I went to this event a couple of years ago, and it is one crazy, fun event that everyone will have fun at.

Normally this event happens in early spring, and this year it is almost six (6) weeks later than when this event was held last year, which just goes to show you just how epic our snowfall was this past ski season.

Skiers and snowboarders ski down the hill, in crazy costumes and attempt to skim across Cushing Pond, which is located at the top of the Village at Squaw Valley, just past the KT Bar and Plaza area.

This is a contest and participants are awarded for their crazy costumes and for how far and well they skim the pond as they compete for some great prizes.  Some contestants will make it across the pond in style, while others will crash with a big splash into the pond.

It’s fun to see how the judges score each participant which receives points for costumes, originality, style, and of course how they skimmed the pond, and if they made it across the pond.  You will find yourself cheering and laughing as the 50 registered participants give it their all at the Annual Lake Cushing Crossing event!

Our Memorial Day Weekend weather has been beautiful so far with temperatures right around 70 degrees with clear blue skies and a lot of sunshine.

If you go be sure to take along a folding camping chair, and wear sunscreen.  While there will be seating that is already set-up I recommend bringing along your own chairs because this is such a popular event and you’ll want to be comfortable to enjoy all of the fun.

In addition to the 27th Annual Cushing Crossing, The Made in Tahoe Festival will also be going on, so there will be a lot of activity at the Village at Squaw Valley on Sunday.

• 9:00 a.m. – Registration Opens – cost is $20/per participant – limited to the first 50 entrants.
• 1 p.m.  – The Event Begins
• 3 p.m. – Awards
• Location – just beyond the KT Base Bar at the top of the Village at Squaw Valley

The Village at Squaw Valley, 1895 Squaw Valley Road, Olympic Valley, CA 96146

• Cost to watch is FREE!!!
