Time Change – Fall Back Sunday November 4 2018
This year our fall season in Lake Tahoe has been spectacular!
It’s hard to believe that it’s November and it’s that time of year to change our clocks and gain an extra hour of time.
If you live, or have a home in the North Lake Tahoe – Truckee, California area you will need to change your clocks.
Did you remember that tonight is the semi-annual time change – Fall Back Sunday, November 4, 2018?
It feels like we just did the time change of Springing forward time change, where has the year gone to?
It’s true, the older you become the faster time seems to pass by and once again we need to change our clocks. So before you go to bed, you’ll need to remember to set back any clock you have back one hour!
Here’s my list of things to do:
- Change our traditional and digital clocks in our home, office and cars (turn back one hour).
- Check our smoke alarms to make sure they are still working (yes, I’d change the batteries if I had an older one, but the new ones have the battery good for 10 years, so I just need to check them to make sure they are still working)
- Check all carbon monoxide alarms/detectors to make sure they are still working
- Fire extinguishers (check to make sure they haven’t been moved and/or damaged). I’ve also starting buying a new extinguisher to put in each room.
- Any security device or item that uses a battery and is wireless (security cameras, video door bells, exterior/interior lights)
- All Flashlights (working, extra batteries), candles, matches, lighters, short-term lighting devices
- Back-up charger device for cell phones/lap tops (if they have a solar option for re-charging that’s always a bonus)
- Canned goods/emergency food supplies (we’ve been pretty good about rotating our inventory, but it’s time to have more items on hand as we move into our winter season)
For those not as familiar with the Lake Tahoe – Tahoe City – Truckee areas some of our important utility lines (electric, cable, phone) are located above ground, and several times a year the power will go out.
The power will go out and getting around because of a bad winter storm will happen, it’s just a question of when and for how long.
Now is the time to make sure you are prepared for the next season!
Take advantage of this timely reminder to not only change your clocks, but to keep do some routine safety checks, along with taking care of your final fall/winter home preparation!
Upcoming future dates to keep in mind from Sunday, November 4, 2018:
- Next time Change: Sunday, March 12, 2019 – 126 days (Spring Forward and Lose One Hour)
- Shortest Day of the Year: Friday, December 21, 2018 Winter Solstice – 48 days
- New Year’s Day January 1, 2019 – 59 days
- Longest Day of the Year 2019 – Friday, June 21, 2019, 230 days – Summer Solstice
- Next Fall Time Change: Sunday, November 3, 2019 – 365 days (Fall Back and Gain that Extra Hour)
So before this year is gone, make a list of things you’d like to accomplish in the next few months. Short term goals are more attainable, and are the building blocks to achieving larger, long-term goals.
Between the last time change and the date of this post we started a diet, and we’re into it five months and six days, but who’s counting?
The point is, we’re making progress, and we started small, just hoping to make to the 4th of July. Our goal is to be in a healthier and skinnier place the next time we change our clocks in March 2019!
If you live in the greater North Lake Tahoe – Tahoe City area, it’s time to set your clocks back this Sunday, November 4, 2018, and if you forgot, it’s time to do it right now!
