Nevada County Government Holiday Schedule – December 2012

Nevada County Holiday Schedule - December 2012 If you work with any of the Nevada County, California government departments, you need to plan ahead, as most of the Nevada County government departments will be closed during the last week of December 2012.

Nevada County government operations will be closed from Monday, December 24, 2012 through Tuesday, January 1, 2013 and will re-open for business on Wednesday, January 2, 2013.

The Nevada County closures will not impact access to public safety, emergency services, and other 24 hour operations. Nevada County has identified the Departments will be open: District Attorney, Sherriff, Probation, Public Works, Registrar of Voters, Clerk-Recorder, and Public Defender.

The reason for the extended closure period for the Nevada County government departments is a combination of the holiday schedule and furlough days.

If you work with any of the Nevada County government departments, now is the time to check with them and confirm their work schedules so you can plan ahead and take care of your business with them now.

Nevada County provides a number of different services. Some of the more popular departments that will be closed are the Building Department, Social Services, and Housing and Community Services just to name a few of the departments that will not be available during the last week of December. While emergency services will be available, all other services/departments will be closed from December 24, 2012 re-opening January 2, 2013.

We had a good snow storm yesterday, and most Tahoe ski resorts received up to a foot of new snow. The 10 day weather forecast is showing snow in 5 out of the next 10 days, so should have good snow conditions for everyone to enjoy for the upcoming holidays. Thank you Salon Bella Vita – Tahoe City, California I’m taking a great idea from DeeDee Riley, a REALTOR in El Dorado Hills, California who recently thanked a local business when she too was lucky and won a wonderful floral center piece. She did a wonderful job of thanking that business that had made the charitable donation to an event she recently attended. So I’m following her lead!

At the very first North Lake Tahoe, Toys for Tots Collection Party they had a raffle giving away a lot of special prizes. You had to be present to win, and all I needed was ticket 134 to be called.

Yes, I buy a lottery ticket every once in a while and I love the thought of having my ticket number called. At the Toys for Tots Collection Party my number was called – WINNER!!!

The River Ranch Lodge and the United States Marine Corps Reserve are hosting the last of their Toys for Tots Collection Party tonight, Wednesday, December 12, 2012 at the River Ranch Lodge in Alpine Meadows, California.

Toys for Tots, River Ranch Lodge - Alpine Meadows, California This is your last chance to have some holiday fun and be a part of the Toys for Tots kick-off parties. Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage along with the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve’s Toys for Tots campaign has set a goal to collect 1,500 toys for local North Lake Tahoe children in need and they are well on their way, but the still need your help.

You’ll find toy collection sites through-out the North Lake Tahoe – Truckee area in many local businesses, but the final drop-off deadline is only 2 days away – Friday, December 14, 2012.

The River Ranch will be offering discounted appetizers, free s’mores, cookies, and cocoa will be served, along with half priced dinners and $3 cocktails. There will also be live music by the North Tahoe Jazz Band.

If you are a homeowner, a Tahoe second home owner, or are considering buying a Lake Tahoe home you need to part of the effort to Keep the Mortgage Interest Deduction (MID) in place.

There are those that want to take, or severely limit the mortgage deduction, which will hurt the housing market!

If you don’t let your representatives know that you want to Keep the Mortgage Interest Deduction in place, they may just eliminate it.

We all know a healthy real estate market is a key component to a healthy economy and that means jobs, along with money for our local and state governments, so why would we want to do anything that could hurt the real estate recovery?

Now is the time to say “NO” – “Keep the Mortgage Interest Deduction”!

Keep the Mortgage Interest Deduction

Many REALTORS® have asked for information on the debate surrounding the mortgage interest deduction that they can share with family, friends and colleagues. REALTORS® and the public alike are urged to share the information in this email with as many people as possible.

Background

Congress, as part of negotiations on avoiding the “Fiscal Cliff,” has made direct references to “closing loopholes” and “limiting deductions” as a way to raise revenues. Clearly, the mortgage interest deduction is high on this list of revenue raisers.

Losing the Mortgage interest deduction will disproportionately affect the middle class because a larger proportion of the middle class takes the deduction. In California 89% of those who took the mortgage interest deduction earned less than $200,000. Losing the deduction would cost the average California taxpayer over $3,900.

What your family, friends and clients can do to help:

Call Congress. First and foremost, we are urging the public to get involved by calling Congress to ask that the mortgage interest deduction be preserved. The public may reach Congress by calling 202-224-3121. The Capitol switchboard operator will help callers identify their member of Congress and connect them.

Get the word out. Many people seem to be blissfully unaware that their mortgage interest deduction is in danger. Please do the following to make sure that the message spreads.
