Bike Riding West Lake Tahoe, CaliforniaBike Riding in Lake Tahoe, California

It’s time to get your bikes out of storage and plan a trip up here to Lake Tahoe.  If you enjoy riding your bike here in Lake Tahoe you should know that there are signs that we may have an early summer and a long bike riding season ahead of us.

I’ve already been out riding on our West Lake Tahoe bike path trail and things are looking really good.  This past week I’ve seen the Tahoe City Public Utility Department (TCPUD) out clearing off old snow on the bike path and then sweeping it.

Bike Riding in Lake Tahoe, California

It looks like North Lake Tahoe – Tahoe City to Dollar Point, Tahoe City to Squaw Valley, and West Lake Tahoe, Tahoe City to Homewood, California have been cleared and I’ve seen a number of people out riding their bikes and walking on the multi-use paved trails system.  They are still working on the second half of the West Shore trails – Homewood to Tahoma, but I think they may have that cleared and ready shortly.

You may not know that the TCPUD maintains over 19 miles of paved bike paths/multi-use trails in-and-around the Tahoe City area, North Shore and West Shore, Lake Tahoe, California.  While the bike path system does not official open until Memorial Day weekend, those that want to ride their bike on the path can do so at their own risk.    If you click on the photos below they will enlarge and you can actually read the details, or TCPUD Bike Trail Map 2015

The multi-trail paved bike path system officially opens Memorial Day Weekend!

Now is the time to start making your plans to come up to Lake Tahoe and enjoy a day of bike riding!

Studded Snow Tires in Lake Tahoe, California

May 1, 2012 By Laura Allen, Broker Associate, Tahoe Real Estate Agent, CA RE 01473598 | 530-414-1260

Studded Snow Tires in Lake Tahoe, CaliforniaStudded Snow Tires in Lake Tahoe, California

It’s that time of year, time to take off your studded snow tires here in Lake Tahoe, California!

If you’re new to California you may not know that we’re not allowed to have studded snow tires on all year long.  California Vehicle Code [Section 27454 (e)] permits studded tires to be used on vehicles between November 1 and April 30 of each year, so those of us who have studded snow tires on our cars have to make a tire change twice a year.

Since today is April 30, my car is at the local Chevron making the seasonal tire change from studded snow tires to regular year-around all-weather tires.  They do a great job at the Tahoe City Chevron and they were happy to work me into their schedule today.

Studded Snow Tires in Lake Tahoe, California

If you need a place to get your studded snow tires changed call the Tahoe City Chevron at 530.583.0211 and find out when you can bring your vehicle in.  They are located at the junction of Highway 89 South and Highway 28 in Tahoe City, California.

While most people use the calendar to signal a changing in the season here in Tahoe, I mark the change in seasons based on what tires are on my SUV.  When the studded snow tires are on its late Fall-Winter and when they come off I’m ready to welcome the Tahoe Spring-Summer season.

Studded Snow Tires are allowed in California from

November 1 through April 30 each year.

Don’t forget it’s time to get your studded snow tires off today.  Failure to do so can result in a ticket from your local police, so make the change today!

Lost Dog, Cat, or Pet in Lake Tahoe, Tahoe City – Truckee, California Area

April 21, 2012 By Laura Allen, Broker Associate, Tahoe Real Estate Agent, CA RE 01473598 | 530-414-1260

Lost Dog, Cat, or Pet in Lake Tahoe, Tahoe City – Truckee, California Area

Laura with Irish Wolfhound puppies Rose and ScooterIf you’ll be traveling up in the Tahoe area, here are some actions to take if your pet gets lost, or precautions to take just in case the unthinkable happens.

1)     Report to Placer County Animal Control – Report your missing pet to the Placer County Animal Control.  This is a county operated center and is one of the first places lost, or found animals should be reported.  Give a good description of your pet.  Remember if the pet collar, or tags are missing, there is no way to reunite you with your pet. Contacting a local agency is an easy way for everyone to become reconnected.

Placer County Animal Control  – Eastern Placer County

10961 Stevens Lane, Truckee, CA

530.582.7830

FYI – Truckee Humane Society of Truckee is also located at 10961 Stevens Lane, Truckee, CA  530.587.5948

2)     Lost or Found Missing Pet Notice – Ask your local Tahoe REALTOR® to post a missing pet, or found pet notice in the daily “Tahoe Sierra Board of REALTORS® Member News – Classified Section” for you.  Our email blast goes out to all real estate agents in the greater Lake Tahoe – Truckee, California area.  Agents are all over the Tahoe area and are coming in contact with people in many different neighborhoods.  Put their eyes to work for you.    If you don’t know a local Tahoe REALTOR®, call me – Laura Allen at 530.414.1260  and I’ll post your lost pet notice for you!

3)     Use the Power of the Internet – Post a missing pet blog, tweet your Tahoe friends that you’ve lost your pet, use Facebook, Google+, and any other social networking tool you have to get the word out about your lost pet.

4)     Post Flyers – Post flyers in your local neighborhood and in all of the local coffee shops, post offices, grocery stores, and gas stations.  Remember pets can travel large distances, even the older ones, so hit all of these local spots in a 10+ mile radius from your home.

5)     Pet Identification – Make sure your pet has a collar with pet identification on it.  Make sure the contact information – phone number is current and is a phone number that you’ll be checking for messages.

6)     Pet Chip – Even if your pet has a collar and pet tags, those can go missing.  If you haven’t had your pet chipped, consider having that done if your pet travels often.  When someone takes the found pet to a veterinary clinic, or to the Placer County Animal Control, they will scan the animal and they’ll get your contact information so they can call you.

7)     Pet Photo – Most pet owners have at least one photo of their animal on their phones these days, but if you don’t have a phone with a camera, make sure you travel with at least one photo of your pet with you.  It can help in the efforts to find your pet.

Hopefully you’ll never be in the position of having to look for a lost pet, dog, or cat here in the greater Tahoe City, Lake Tahoe area, but if the unthinkable happens know that there are people here who want to help you find your pet.
