Thanksgiving Dining Options North Lake Tahoe – 2019

Thanksgiving Day 2019 is almost here.

If you will be in the greater North Lake Tahoe – Truckee area for the upcoming holiday, you may be looking for some dining out options for Thanksgiving Day – Thursday, November 28, 2019.

Not everyone wants to cook and be in the kitchen on Thanksgiving day/

If you find yourself in that situation, here are some local North Lake Tahoe – Truckee dinning options.

This is not meant as a complete list, but it is a list of places I was able to confirm that would be open for Thanksgiving Day!

Some places may be already sold out and others are now taking names on a wait-list, so keep dialing until you find a place that will take your reservations!

Here are some restaurant Thanksgiving Day dinner dining options for the greater North Lake Tahoe – 2019:

I’m sure there are more options in our area, but these restaurants and the Community Thanksgiving event are great local choices, and are a good bet for a nice holiday meal.

While I am still trying to figure out what we will do for the holiday – cook at home, or make Thanksgiving Day Dinner Reservations some where here in the North Lake Tahoe area too.

If you’re thinking about dining out this year you will need to call now to check on reservation availability and menu options as soon as possible. 

If you’re reading this, you might start thinking about your Christmas Day, or New Year’s Eve dinner reservations now, as those holiday event days book up quickly too.

Lastly, remember if your first choice is gone, don’t get discouraged, keep on calling, someone is going to have room for you.

It is here, the beginning of the holiday season for the greater Truckee – North Lake Tahoe area.

If you are looking for a way to get into the holiday mood, check out the annual “Bud Fish” Truckee Holiday Tree Lighting Ceremony this Friday, November 22, 2019 in downtown historic Truckee, California!

We will have several tree lighting events in our area in our various communities and towns, but this is the first one of the season.

It is a great way to enjoy some holiday fun in downtown historic Truckee with the lighting of the Bud Fish Christmas Tree, along with a visit from Santa, hot chocolate and caroling.

This 20+ year tradition will begin at 4 p.m. when elementary school children will decorate the Christmas trees that will line historic downtown Truckee on Donner Pass Road.

At 4:30 p.m. Santa will arrive by the Truckee Fire Department’s antique fire truck and will end up in front of the Bud Fish Tree for the annual Lighting Ceremony, which should happen at 5:15 p.m.

One of the great things I love about living in a smaller community are our local events and their personal connection to them. 

You may not know why this event is called the “Bud Fish” Tree Lighting event. 

The naming of this event followed the death of Bud Fish, a charter member of the local Rotary Club of Truckee, and a longtime resident of Truckee, California.

Each year Bud, who was a forester, would see to it that Fibreboard provided the holiday Christmas Tree for the downtown Truckee area.  He would assemble a crew of volunteers to put up the tree and decorate it.

After his passing, the Rotary Club of Truckee secured, planted, and dedicated a permanent Christmas Tree in historic downtown Truckee in his memory.

In addition to the planting of the tree, which has grown into a beautiful addition in the downtown area, the Rotary Club has partnered with the American Cancer Society in welcoming everyone to the lighting of this memorial tree and anyone can purchase a Memorial Tree Ornament supporting this cause. 

Memorial Tree Ornaments can be purchased inside the Welcome Center for a donation to honor cancer survivors, or to pay tribute to the lives lost to the disease. 

The funds raised go to help fight cancer, and are donated to the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life of Truckee Tahoe. 

For many that attend this annual event, seeing the Truckee holiday tree light-up is so much more than twinkling lights and tinsel.

Here are the event details:

Holiday Tree Lighting – Truckee 2019

  • Where: At the Bud Fish Tree located in front of the Train Depot in downtown historic Truckee, California
  • When:  Friday, November 22, 2019.  4 P.m. Street Tree decorating begins
    4:30 p.m. Santa arrives 5:15 p.m.     Tree Lighting Ceremony begins  * Times are approximate, and if you don’t want to miss out on the fun, arrive early!
  • Cost:  FREE
  • Ornament Cost:  Memorial tree ornaments can be purchased inside the Welcome Center for a donation to honor cancer survivors, or to pay tribute to the lives lost to cancer.  We all know some who is fighting the battle, or has lost the battle with cancer, so give generously.
  • All proceeds from the ornaments will be donated to the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life of Truckee-Tahoe
  • Weather:  It will be cold with temperatures in the low 30’s!

An Elegant Affair – Tahoe City 2019This year is the 43 rd Annual An Elegant Affair, which is a local fund-raiser for the North Tahoe Boosters Club  and it will be held on Friday, November 22, 2019 in downtown Tahoe City!

This is an annual event you can count on!

Each year on the Friday evening before the week of  Thanksgiving, the holiday season begins with the annual “An Elegant Affair” event in the greater North Lake Tahoe – Truckee area.

It’s one of those charity – fundraising events that I look forward to each year.  It’s fun to get dressed-up and run into old friends, neighbors and past clients that you haven’t seen since the busy days of summer.

It’s a great way to start the holiday season.  This event brings together a variety of wines to taste, and appetizers made from some of the North Lake Tahoe areas best area restaurants and catering companies and I’m ready to enjoy the last few weeks of 2019.

This year the 43th Annual Elegant Affair event will happen on Friday, November 22, 2019 beginning at 6:30 p.m. at the Boatworks Mall in downtown Tahoe City, California.

The North Tahoe Boosters organization puts on a wonderful evening of tasting fine wines, beers, and gourmet appetizers to raise money for the North Tahoe High and Middle School Athletics.

There is also a silent auction and 100% of the events proceeds will go to support the North Tahoe Boosters and their programs.

You many not know how much hard work and effort the North Tahoe Boosters Club does to support the local Tahoe’s area sports programs, but as school budgets have been cut back, many costs fall back onto the students and their families and the Boosters help cover that budget gap.

The North Tahoe Boosters Club helps cover the costs for many items like uniforms, equipment, travel expenses, and without their financial support, many programs would just not happen.

This is your opportunity to be a part of helping others have those same types of after-school experiences by supporting this excellent fund-raising event.

In addition to the after-school programs, the NT Boosters also give out annual scholarships to seniors who have participated in sports at North Tahoe, so their support of the local Tahoe youth occurs on many levels.

This annual event, An Elegant Affair, is held inside at the Boatworks Mall on both levels with wine, beer, and local restaurants setting up tasting stations around the mall.

Holiday wear is encouraged and black tie is optional, but the truth is, in Tahoe City, resort holiday wear can include jeans and a favorite sweater!  Don’t let the dress code keep you from showing up at this great, local event!

I’ve attended this event over the years, and it’s always been a lot of fun.

  • When:  Friday, November 22, 2019, Starting at 6:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. (Doors open at 6:15 p.m.)
  • Where:  Boatworks Mall, 760 North Lake Blvd., Tahoe City, California
  • Cost:  $55 Ticket / $90 per Couple.

This event sells out each year, so get your tickets now.

You can purchase tickets on-line at www.NorthTahoeBoosters.org , or on the day of the event beginning at 12 p.m. until 5 p.m.

If you’re going to be in the greater Tahoe City area show-up with cash in hand to buy a ticket right there on the spot, you’ll probably get in!

Holiday shopping in the North Lake Tahoe – Truckee area just became a little easier with the 2019 Soroptishop Holiday Shopping Craft Fair (Soroptimist International of Truckee Donner) fundraiser event, this Thursday, November 21, 2019 from 5:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. at the new Truckee Community Recreational Center.

If you’re stuck on what to get that someone special, or if you still need a gift for your co-worker, the book club members, or you just need more stocking stuffers, this is a great local event.

A great way to find that unique gift, but this even supports many non-profit groups.

You’ll find unique items that you may not find in a big box store and you’ll be helping those with good causes that go far beyond this holiday season.

This year over fifty (50) artisan vendors will have items for sale.  Here is what you’ll find at this years’ event:  jewelry, clothing, items to decorate your home, art work, seasonal items, and items that were made and produced that are unique to the North Lake Tahoe area.

Why shop the Soroptimist annual fund-raising event this year?  It’s a good question, and the reason that you should come out and pay the $10 admission fee for this event is because you’ll be supporting their second largest annual fund-raising event that provides support to many local projects that serve the greater local Truckee area.

XC Ski Swap – Tahoe City 2019November is a great month to get ready for the upcoming winter sports season.

If you love to cross country ski, or spend time in the backcountry, then this is your event!

This is California’s largest cross country (XC) ski swap event and it happens the second weekend in November each year.

This year it will be Saturday, November 9, 2019 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Tahoe Cross Country facility at 925 Country Club Drive in Tahoe City, CA!

Admission is a suggested $5/donation for buyers (gets you a raffle ticket and a coffee) and you’ll find great deals on new and used equipment. 

As our world-class ski resorts get ready for another  great winter season, now is the time to check out your winter sports equipment and take advantage of the XC Ski Swap event in Tahoe City, CA.

What will you find?  How about boots, poles, snowshoes, clothing, accessories, skate and classic, telemark and light touring gear just to name a few items. 

If you haven’t tried out cross country skiing, this is a great way to pick up all of the equipment you’ll need at a fraction of the cost.

Cold winter temperatures are here, and before you know we’ll be in full swing with all of our winter sports, so now is the time to take advantage of this large XC Ski Swap event. 

Need another reason to shop?  This is a fundraiser for the Tahoe XC Ski Education Association so you’re getting a two-for-one by shopping and supporting this local group.

  • When:  10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday, November 9, 2019
  • Where:  Tahoe Cross Country Lodge | 925 County Club Drive, Tahoe City, CA 96145
  • Admission Cost – A $5 donation is suggested, which gets you 1 raffle ticket and a free coffee.  If you have last year’s Tahoe XC Season Pass you’ll get in for free! 
  • Fundraiser:  Raffle Tickets:  $5/each, or 5 for $20 
  • Supports:  Tahoe XC Juniors Programs 
  •      Grand Prize:  Tahoe XC 2019 2019-2020 Adult Season Pass
