Winter Fireworks Squaw Valley – 2018

January 20, 2018 By Laura Allen, Broker Associate, Tahoe Real Estate Agent, CA RE 01473598 | 530-414-1260

Winter Fireworks Squaw Valley – 2018

Winter Fireworks Squaw Valley - 2018One of the things I enjoy about living here in the North Lake Tahoe – greater Truckee area are the free local events our community continues to create to add to our enjoyment.

This year one of our new events for you to experience are the  free winter fireworks shows in Squaw Valley every Saturday evening (January 6 – through March 2018) at approximately 6 p.m.  (after the sun has set) weather permitting.

If you haven’t have the opportunity to see a firework show over our snow covered mountains, this needs to be on you to-do list for this winter season.

The North Lake Tahoe – Truckee area has incorporated so many fun free events through-out our different seasons, the addition of a weekly fireworks show at Squaw Valley is just one more reason to make a winter trip up to our area and have some fun!

If you’ll be up here in our area don’t forget to check out the firework shows at The Village at Squaw Valley tonight  and every Saturday evening through March 2018.

Winter Fireworks Squaw Valley - 2018A couple of tips if you’re headed to one of the outdoor events:

  • Dress Warmly – You’ll want to dress warmly and in layers as you’ll be outside and our evening are cold – brrrrr!
  • Be Early – Parking is always a challenge during our peak ski season so allow enough time for parking and finding a good spot to watch the show!  Events in our area tend to start on time so give yourself extra travel time so you can be early and not rushed.
  • Flashlight – Always bring along a small flashlight.  Don’t count on your cell phone flashlight.  At the end of the evening phone battery life is often low, or gone, so carry a real small flashlight.  It will make it easy to find your way back to the place you are staying, or back to your car at night.

If you want to avoid the crowds and watch the fireworks from your car, find a good spot in the parking lot, or anywhere you can see the ski resort.

To make it a fun event, in the past we’ve planned ahead and ordered pizza to go from the Fireside Pizza restaurant.   We’ve also ordered sushi to go to, so any of the local Village restaurants are a possibility.  Choose your favorite cuisine and enjoy!

We’ve set our order so it is ready to go at 5:40 p.m.  (that means calling in about an hour before to make the timing work).   Twenty minutes before the event starts is just enough time to drop one of us off at the entrance to the Village, pick-up our order, and then find a parking spot to watch the show.

You’ll have a good view and your own private show in your car.  If you brink lawn chairs you can sit by your car and still have the entire outdoor experience, but without the crowds!

If you’re in the Village (best place to view the show)  the Plaza Bar will be serving complimentary hot cocoa just before the fireworks show begins.  There will also be food and beverages for purchase from 4 – 6:30 p.m.

Here is the schedule of Free Winter Firework Squaw Valley Show Events:

6 p.m. Winter Fireworks at the Village at Squaw Valley.  Best viewing at the KT Bar area, but if you have a view of the Squaw Valley Ski Resort you’ll have a view of the fireworks from a distance.

There are many restaurants and bars in the Village, so after the show you can make an evening out of being there.

See you at one of the free Winter Firework shows a Squaw Valley this year!

New Year’s Eve North Lake Tahoe – Truckee December 31 2017

December 31, 2017 By Laura Allen, Broker Associate, Tahoe Real Estate Agent, CA RE 01473598 | 530-414-1260

New Year’s Eve North Lake Tahoe – Truckee December 31 2017

New Year’s Eve North Lake Tahoe - Truckee December 31 2017The year is almost over and if you’re in the North Lake Tahoe – greater Truckee area this New Year’s Eve holiday weekend, here are some of our local events that will happen on  New Year’s Eve North Lake Tahoe – Truckee December 31 2017!

There are so many great things about living here in the North Lake Tahoe – Truckee area, but our local holiday events are always a lot of fun, and many are free!

If your plans are to stay in and celebrate in your Tahoe home that’s always a fun choice, but if you are now having second thoughts, it’s not too late to make last-minute reservations  for a New Year’s Eve dinner, or to get reservations at one of the holiday dinner-dance parties here in the North Lake Tahoe and Truckee area.

While some events may have already sold out, keep dialing there are still places that have availability.

If you’re thinking about something more casual, don’t forget you’ll find free events and firework shows at both The Village at Squaw Valley and at the Northstar Village on December 31, 2017.

If you’re thinking about something more casual, don’t forget you’ll find free events and firework shows in the North Lake Tahoe area at either  Northstar, or at Squaw Valley.

We been to both the Northstar annual Fire and Ice New Year’s Eve Celebration and the fire works show at Squaw Valley and both will help you feel festive and are a great way to bring in the New Year.

As Craig and I get older, we find that there is just something special about seeing fire works and their beautiful display of vivid color over snow covered ski runs with the outline of the respective villages that makes a really impressive sight!

New Year’s Eve North Lake Tahoe - Truckee December 31 2017A couple of tips if you’re headed to one of the outdoor events:

  • Dress Warmly – You’ll want to dress warmly and in layers as you’ll be outside and the weather for New Year’s Eve is expected to be in the mid 20’s!
  • Be Early – Parking is always a challenge during our peak visit seasons, and during the Christmas – New Year’s holiday period, we’re at capacity, so allow enough time for parking and finding a good spot to watch the show!  Events tend to start on time so give yourself extra travel time so you can be early.
  • Flashlight – Not every place has outdoor lighting at night in our area. Always bring along a small flashlight (Don’t count on your cell phone flashlight.  At the end of the evening phone battery life is often low, or gone, so carry a real flashlight.) making it easy to find your way back to the place you are staying, or back to your car.

If you want to avoid the crowds and watch the fireworks from your car, find a good spot in the parking lot, or anywhere you can see the ski resorts.

You’ll have a good view and your own private show.  If you brink lawn chairs you can sit by your car and still have the entire outdoor experience!

Lastly, most of our free events will celebrate New Year’s Eve at 9 p.m. so you can enjoy the fireworks and attend another party to bring in the New Year at midnight here in the North Lake Tahoe –  Truckee, California area.

Here is the schedule of the Free Northstar New Year’s Eve events:

I must have an old soul because I really enjoy playing Bingo!  Yes, I understand all of the stereotypes this will bring to mind, but the thought of having the Bingo card that has all of the right numbers called out that causes me to yell Bingo before everyone else, making me a winner by sheer luck is thrilling.

Okay, it also doesn’t hurt that this is a fund raiser for the Truckee Tahoe Waldorf  School, so all Bingo card proceeds go to a local organization, and that the event is being held at the Alibi Ale Works – Truckee Public House in Downtown Historic Truckee.

I enjoy our local fundraising events when they are held at local brew-pubs like Alibi Ale Works (so much more than beer and great food).  Who doesn’t enjoy having the option to order a favorite beverage and great food menu items to go along with playing Bingo tonight.  It makes the event a winning combination right from the start!
