Thanksgiving Dining Options in North Lake Tahoe - 2017Gobble, gobble, Thanksgiving Day is almost here.  If you’ll be in the North Lake Tahoe area for the upcoming holiday, here are some dining options in the North Lake Tahoe and Truckee area for this Thanksgiving Day – Thursday November 23, 2017.

I’m writing this blog post on Monday afternoon, just three days before the big event and if you still haven’t figured out what, or who will be cooking Thanksgiving Day Dinner, here are some dinning options if you’ll be here in the greater Tahoe City, or Truckee area this holiday weekend!

Most of our local grocery stores will be open for limited hours on Thanksgiving day, but as I think about making up a shopping list of items to buy , I have to think to myself, would reservations be a better way to go?

If you’re reading this post, you too may be in the same boat – so what are your Thanksgiving Day dinning options for 2017?

If you’re going to be here in the greater Lake Tahoe, California area for the upcoming Thanksgiving Day holiday and you haven’t made your dining plans, some of you top choices may already be sold out, so now is the time to pick up the phone and get those dinner reservations!

Here are some restaurant Thanksgiving Day dinner dining options for the greater North Lake Tahoe – 2017:

I’m sure there are more options, but these restaurants and the Community Thanksgiving event are great local choices, and are a good bet for a wonderful meal.

While it is possible that Craig and I could still stay at home and cook, there’s a very good chance we will be making Thanksgiving Day Dinner Reservations some where here in the North Lake Tahoe area too.

If you’re thinking about dining out this year you will need to call now to check on reservation availability and menu options and then go from there.  If you’re reading this, you might start thinking about Christmas Day dinner reservations now, as that day books up quickly too.

Lastly, remember if your first choice is gone, keep on dialing; someone is going to have room for you.

An Elegant Affair – Tahoe City November 17 2017For over forty years the Tahoe City area has kicked off the holiday season with An Elegant Affair!

This year is the 41st Annual An Elegant Affair, which is a fund-raiser for the North Tahoe Boosters Club will be held tonight, Friday, November 17, 2017 in downtown Tahoe City.

Just like turning your clocks back in earlier this month, on the Friday evening before the week of  Thanksgiving, the official kick-off of the year-end holiday season will start and in our area its the annual Elegant Affair.

It’s one of those annual charity | fundraising events that I look forward to each year.  There is just something about getting dressed-up and running into old friends, neighbors and past clients that reminds me of how thankful I am to live in such a beautiful place.

Throw in a variety of wines to taste, and appetizers made from some of the North Lake Tahoe areas best area restaurants and catering companies and I’m ready to get into the holiday mood and season in the North Lake Tahoe area.

This year the 41th Annual Elegant Affair event will happen today, Friday, November 17, 2015 beginning at 6:30 p.m. at the Boatworks Mall in downtown Tahoe City, California.

An Elegant Affair – Tahoe City November 17 2017The North Tahoe Boosters organization puts on a wonderful evening of tasting fine wines, beers, and gourmet appetizers to raise money for the North Tahoe High and Middle School Athletics.

There is also a silent auction and 100% of the events proceeds will go to support the North Tahoe Boosters and their programs.

You many not know, or appreciate the hard work and effort that the North Tahoe Boosters Club does to support Tahoe’s local sports programs, but as school budgets have been cut back, many costs fall back onto the students and their families.

The North Tahoe Boosters Club helps cover the costs for many items like uniforms, equipment, travel expenses, and without their financial support, many programs would just not happen.

If you take a moment to remember what it was like to be in middle, or high school and how important those after-school programs were to you, you’ll know why this is a sell-out event.

This is your opportunity to be a part of helping others have those same types of experiences by supporting this excellent fund-raising event.

In addition to the after-school programs, the NT Boosters also give out annual scholarships to seniors who have participated in sports at North Tahoe, so their support of the local Tahoe youth occurs on many levels.

This annual event, An Elegant Affair, is held inside at the Boatworks Mall on both levels with wine, beer, and local restaurants setting up tasting stations around the mall.

Holiday wear is encouraged and black tie is optional, but the truth is, in Tahoe City resort holiday wear can include jeans and a favorite sweater!  Don’t let the dress code keep you from showing up at this great, local event!

I’ve attended this event over the years, and it’s always been a lot of fun.

For those of you still looking for a reason to go to this years’ wine tasting event, don’t forget the silent and door prize (wheelbarrow of wine)?  Bring your checkbooks, or cash because you’re going to find some great silent auction items to bid on.  What could be more fun than wine tasting and shopping at a silent auction and all for a great cause?

This year the event organizers will have many local Tahoe-Truckee restaurants, along with wineries and breweries.  If you love wine tasting and are looking for a way to kick-off your holiday season while supporting a good local organizations this is the event for you.

  • When:  Friday, November 17, 2017, Starting at 6:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. (Doors open at 6:15 p.m.)
  • Where:  Boatworks Mall, 760 North Lake Blvd., Tahoe City, California
  • Cost:  $55 Ticket / $90 per Couple.

This event sells out each year, so get your tickets now.  You can purchase tickets on-line at www.NorthTahoeBoosters.org (online sales will stop at 4 p.m. on the day of the event), or at the doors at the Boatworks Mall on the day of the event beginning at 12 p.m. until 5 p.m.

If you’re going to be in the greater Tahoe City area, even if you’re past the 5 p.m. deadline and you still want to go, show-up with cash in hand to buy a ticket right there on the spot, you’ll probably get in!

The Great Truckee Pumpkin Race - Oct 27 2017Here’s is your chance to be part of an inaugural event in Downtown Historic Truckee, this afternoon, Friday, October 27, 2017 between 4 p.m. – 5:30 p.m. as the Great Truckee Pumpkin Race will happen!

Perhaps it’s the inner nerd in me that finds the thought of seeing home-made pumpkin race cars made out of a single pumpkin fascinating.

If you’re around today in the  Lake Tahoe and Truckee, California area, you should check out the Great Truckee Pumpkin Race!

Here are the details of the Truckee Pumpkin Race Car Race in Downtown Historic Truckee, California:

The Great Truckee Pumpkin Race – Oct 27 2017

  • When:  Friday, October 27, 2017, Starting at 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.
  • Where:  Between High Street and Jibboom Street in Downtown Historic Truckee, CA
  • Parking:  Anywhere you can find a space
  • Cost:  Free Admission for Spectators, but if you want to build and race your pumpkin, the entry fee is $20 per pumpkin
  • Here are some rules to be aware of:
    • Craft your pumpkin race car using a single pumpkin
    • Use two independent axles through your pumpkin to attach wheels
    • No explosives or pyrotechnics
    • No prefabricated chassis (skateboard, stroller, etc…)
    • Decorate and make it fun.  There are points for style and decoration

The Great Truckee Pumpkin Race - Oct 27 2017In my mind I’m seeing crazy super-sized pumpkin cars, but I suspect you’ll see smaller, toy-sized pumpkins that are engineered to race down the hill, but wouldn’t it be fun if they turned out to be go-cart sized pumpkins!

This event is hosted by the Tahoe Expedition Academy and several sponsors, so it’s a chance to show off your car design skills.

The judges are there to enforce the rules, and be forewarned, from reading more about the event on-line, I think they are prepared to smash those pumpkins that don’t follow the rules, so make sure your pumpkin race car follows the rules.

Our local events are well done and really embrace the season.  In a season filled with all things pumpkin: pumpkin chocolate chip cookies, pumpkin lattes, and pumpkin spiced cream cheese just to name a few of my fall favorites, what could be more fun than a pumpkin car race just a few days before Halloween!

Tahoe Donner Fall Festival - Oct 14 2017It’s the 8th Annual Fall Festival in Tahoe Donner!   If you don’t have plans for this weekend, consider driving up to Lake Tahoe and Truckee, California this Saturday, October 14, 2017 and check out this local event!

The leaves are turning color and you know the drive up here in the will be beautiful.

The Tahoe Donner Fall Festival will take place from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Northwoods Clubhouse.

Admission is free, but depending on what you want to do, the costs will vary depending on the activity, craft, food, or beverage items you may want to purchase.

While Tahoe Donner is a planned master community with some private facilities, this annual Tahoe Donner Fall event is open to the public.

Now is the time to get into the swing of the season with pumpkins, seasonal draft beers, BBQ, or take advantage of one of the fun events.

There is typically something for everyone to enjoy.  Even your four legged fury friends are welcome in Tahoe Donner pool to take a dip.  This is the annual doggie dip (in the pool off-leash, outside of the pool on a leash) as the pool has closed for the season, and this is their chance for a doggie swim before the pool is winterized.

The Tahoe Donner Fall Festival will have arts and crafts vendors so you’ll have fun browsing the booths and checking out the hand-crafted goods and fresh harvest produce.

There will also be a number of activities in addition to the Arts and Crafts Fair, there will be a Beer Garden with seasonal beers, Live Entertainment, Music, Pumpkin Patch, Kid Carnival Area, Games, Contests, and so much more.

  • When:  Saturday, October 14, 2017, Starting at 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Where:  Tahoe Donner Northwoods Clubhouse, 11509 Northwoods Blvd., Tahoe Donner community in Truckee, CA
  • Parking:  Park at the Northwoods Clubhouse, or park at Trout Creek Recreation Center and taking the free shuttle to Northwoods Clubhouse.   Shuttles will run from 11 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
  • Cost:  Free Admission – Costs will vary by event, or food/beverage item,  Must be 21+ for the beer garden.
  • 11 a.m. – 5 p.m. Beer Garden and BBQ, Kids carnival, Arts and Crafts Vendors, Doggie Dip Vendors, Bocce Ball Play, and Disc Golf Course open (3 holes)

Tahoe Donner Fall Festival - Oct 14 2017I’ve been to the annual Tahoe Donner Fall Festival in the past and it is a fun combination of carnival and Tahoe activities, Oktoberfest, and some doggie fun, for those that have furry loved ones.

If you haven’t had a chance to check out the Tahoe Donner master planned community, after you’ve had some fall fun, drive the Northwoods Blvd loop and check the area out!

Tahoe Donner is a favorite for second home owners and for year-around living!

Looking to find out where the Tahoe City Home Values are at for 2017?  Wondering if now is the time to buy, or sell a home or condo in Tahoe City, CA area?

The Tahoe City real estate market conditions continue to change; and prices have moved up for sellers. Tahoe City Home Buyers have fewer choices, and for those looking for a home for sale in Tahoe City under $600,000 will find their options are very limited these days.

As an example of how limited the selection of lower-priced homes are as of 09-05-2017 there were only four (4) homes for sale in the greater Tahoe City area, and one of those properties is a cabin on government leased land.  That leaves only three homes that are available under $600,000 that a Tahoe City home buyer has as an option where they would own the home and land.

Tahoe City single family home prices are down slightly for 2017 when compared to 2016. Since the entire North Shore, West Shore, and greater Tahoe City area is up 11.7%,  This slight decline is most likely because we have not have any Tahoe City lakefront home sales close so far in 2017, which could be impacting the median average sales price.

Historically between the 4th of July through the Labor Day period is when we see our inventory levels balloon and peak for the Tahoe City single family homes sales in our area.  This year, we have not seen those levels move to an over-supply level and this unseasonably low home inventory level will help keep prices up.

At the lower price points Tahoe City home Buyers are often facing multiple offer situations and very few homes options.

The list to price average for the median sales price in Tahoe City has also moved up to 100.1% of the listed sales price, which tells buyers properties are moving quickly and they need to be prepared to make a decision and to make an offer at, or above listed price for newly listed properties.

The days on market (DOM) has also dropped significantly, almost 50%, from 90 DOM at this time last year, to 52 DOM for 2017.

The demand for luxury mountain homes in the Tahoe City community continues to be strong because of the extensive Tahoe lifestyle recreational activities this area offers.

Tahoe City is actually located on both the North Shore and West Shore of Lake Tahoe, which stretches out 3 miles in each direction.  Currently, Tahoe City has a full time population of just over 1,500 people.

Downtown Tahoe City, which is known for its charming Alpine Mountain Village setting, lake views, and small-town friendly atmosphere, is actually located on the North Shore of Lake Tahoe, on Highway 28.
