12th Truckee Duckee Derbee, River Ranch, June 7, 2015Looking to have some fun this Sunday afternoon?  Check out the 12th Truckee Duckee Derbee at the River Ranch in Alpine Meadows this Sunday, June 7, 2015 starting at 1 p.m.

It’s true the Truckee River levels are very low, but the Rubber Duck Race will go on!  Admission is free to watch the event with the cost to sponsor one rubber duck at only $10.  There is no limit on how many ducks you may want to adopt, so stack the deck in your favor and sponsor several ducks in the race!

This year’s Duckee Derbee is one of the first summer charity events for the North Lake Tahoe area and proceeds raised will benefit the local Humane Society of Truckee – Tahoe.

This is a great way to help local Lake Tahoe – Truckee homeless animals in need by sponsoring a duck in this years’ race.  Who knew that that a rubber duck could do so much good for the Tahoe area!

In addition to the big rubber duck race, there will be Dogz in Dudz Doggie Costume Contest (who doesn’t enjoy seeing dogs in the latest fashions), and the Cool Catz in Hatz for Humans (a great opportunity to wear a crazy animal-themed head attire), along with a brand new contest “Chuck a Duck” where contestants will go against each other to hit a target with a rubber duck.

Just want to sit back and watch it all?  That’s an option too, along with enjoying some great BBQ food, and live music by Serina Dawn Duo.  Besides adopting a rubber duck, you can also buy a ticket for the raffle, and there will be silent auction.   Grand prize for the raffle is a GIANT Mountain Bike!

The 12th Annual Truckee Duckee Derbee will be your opportunity to celebrate the summer opening of the River Ranch Patio and support a great local organization.

41st Wine Tasting – Soroptimist International of Truckee Donner, June 6, 2015It’s summer in Lake Tahoe – Truckee and it’s time to celebrate and take in some of our great local charity events!

If you love to taste wine, consider yourself a foodie, and enjoy the thrill of a great silent auction, then the 41th Wine Tasting – Soroptimist International of Truckee Donner event today, Saturday, June 6, 2015 is the one for you!

You’ll get to taste some great wines, beer, and appetizers prepared by local area restaurants and caterers at the 41st Annual Wine and Restaurant Faire Fund Raiser presented by the Soroptimist International of Truckee Donner.

This event has something to please just about everyone!  The combination of wine and beer tasting, along with great food, live music and live and silent auction is a fun way to kick-off your Tahoe summer season.

This annual event is always a sell-out and will be held at the Coyote Moon Golf Course, which is right before the entrance to Tahoe Donner in Truckee, CA on Saturday, June 6, 2015 from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

The Soroptimist International of Truckee Donner will offer goods and services for auction.  Bring your credit cards and check book so you’ll be prepared when it comes time to bid on some wonderful trips, golf and dinning packages, home maintenance, clothing, jewelry, accessories, art, and many other fantastic items.

If you’re not familiar with what the Soroptimist group is, and what they do and their goals for the community: the Soroptimist group is an international volunteer organization for business and professional women, who work to improve the lives of women and girls in local communities and throughout the world.

The Soroptimist organization of Truckee Donner relies on charitable contributions to fund their local Truckee, California programs, which include: local high school scholarships, youth education, women and senior programs.

Tahoe City Community Rummage Sale, Rideout Center, Sat., May 30, 2015It’s that time of year to start seeing great yard sales here in the greater Tahoe City area.

If you don’t want to host your own yard sale, but you do have un-wanted, un-used, or  general house-hold clutter that you’d like to get rid of and turn those items into cash, then consider selling them at the Community Rummage Sale this Saturday, May 30, 2015 at the Rideout Center in the Timberland neighborhood in Tahoe City, CA.

As a seller you can rent a booth space and sell your stuff.  Booth space is only $10 and you keep 100% of your proceeds.  Vendors can drop off goods on Friday, May 30, 2014.

Buyers will get the chance to shop from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, so if you’re looking for items for your home here in Tahoe, you’re interested in sprucing up your current space with something new, or if you just enjoy the hunt for treasure at a bargain price this is your chance to see many different sellers all in one spot!

Our yard sales here in Lake Tahoe are typically very good, and I’m always finding nice things to use in the kitchen, home, and office at them.  It’s also a great place for used outdoor equipment and clothing!

Amgen Tour of California Women’s Race – Stage 1 Lake Tahoe May 2015Today I was lucky enough to watch the first Stage of the Amgen Tour of California Women’s Race on the West Shore of Lake Tahoe.  I was just down the road from the 50km mark in the Tahoe Park neighborhood which is known for having the Sunnyside Resort, FireSign Café and the new West Shore Market.

It was really impressive to watch these world-class athletes ride by.  I can see why the crowds turn out for the Tour de France event each year and line the streets for just a peek at the cyclists as they zoom past you.  You just can’t imagine just how fast these women were moving today until you are standing there and watch them.

Here’s a video of Stage I of the Amgen Tour of California Women’s Race on the West Shore of Lake Tahoe just about 2.5 mile south of Downtown Tahoe City, which is just about the half-way mark of this first leg in their four stage race.

If you weren’t able to be here in Lake Tahoe today for the first stage of the Amgen Women’s Race, you still have time to be here for Stage 2, which will take place in South Lake Tahoe at the Heavenly Base Resort tomorrow, Saturday, May 9, 2015 starting at 10:30 a.m.  I’d get there early so you can grab a good spot to watch these women ride by!

Lake Tahoe is known for its amazing winter sports and our Olympic athletes, but we are also known for our beautiful Lake Tahoe, and our great boating and lake activities.  Hopefully the Amgen race will remind everyone what a great place Lake Tahoe is to ride your bike, whether you are a professional like these Amgen women racers, or an amateur like myself who just enjoys being out on our local paved bike paths!

Amgen Tour of California Women’s Race – Lake Tahoe May 8-9, 2015This year the Amgen Tour of California will kick-off their annual event with a four stage Women’s Race that will be hosted here in Lake Tahoe, California on Friday, May 9, and Saturday, May 9, 2015.

For those that are not familiar with the Amgen Tour, and you enjoy watching the Tour de France, you’ll love watching these top athletes ride their bikes here in beautiful Lake Tahoe.

The women will start things this year with Stages 1 and 2 in Lake Tahoe, with Stages 3 and 4 held in Sacramento followed by Big Bear Lake.

The Amgen Tour of California Men Tour will start on Monday, May 10, 2015 in Sacramento, CA so there will be a lot to see this year in Northern California.

There are fourteen (14) women teams, and each has their own unique racing jacket/shirt.  To learn more about each team and the Amgen Tour of California Women’s Race – Lake Tahoe May 8-9, 2015 click here.

The Amgen Tour of California Women’s Race will begin tomorrow starting at Heavenly in South Lake Tahoe.  The race route will cover seventy-four (74) miles racing around the perimeter of Lake Tahoe riding in both California and in Nevada (a first for the event) and will end up where they started, back at the base of the Heavenly ski resort in South Lake Tahoe.

The race route for Stage 1 and Stage 2 are as follows:

All race times are approximate, so be early so you don’t miss out see any of the women race by!

It will be very easy for you to view the race if you stand/sit along any where along CA Hwy 89 South, CA HWY 28, NV Hwy 28, or NV Hwy 50.

The Race Festival will be at the Heavenly Resort, which is where both Stages 1 and 2 will start and finish each day.

STAGE 2 – Saturday, May 9, 2015 – Heavenly Mountain Ski Resort – South Lake Tahoe, California

Start Time:  10:30 a.m.

Elevation Change:  3,300 feet (remember they are starting at over 6,200+ feet in elevation above sea level)

Total Miles:  49.7 miles | Kilometers:  80 km

The circuit is approximately 25 miles long, so viewers will get to see the racers go by twice!

Amgen Tour of California Women’s Race – Lake Tahoe May 8-9, 2015Note:  While there will be rolling road closures and delays along the race route, Pioneer Trail will be closed to through traffic between Ski Run Blvd. and US Hwy 50 in Meyers from 10:30 a.m. – 1 p.m. on Saturday.

Helpful tips for anyone that will be in the Lake Tahoe Basin area on Friday:

Expect rolling road closures and delays as the race moves around Lake Tahoe.  Be aware of when bikers will be in your area.  All racers will be on our main Lake Tahoe road that goes around the lake, so be prepared and allow for extra travel time as the Amgen Tour of California Women’s Race happens in our area May 8-9, 2015.
