It’s here, the longest day of the year in Tahoe City, Saturday, June 20, 2020!

Yes, I am one of those people that loves the longer days of sunshine and today is a bittersweet day.

I love our summer days here in Lake Tahoe – sunshine and blue skies and water!

After today, we start losing precious minutes of daylight as we begin the processes of moving back to the shortest day of the year, and the beginning of our winter season, which is Monday, December 21, 2020.

Sunset today will be at 8:30 p.m. a big difference from sunset at 4:41 p.m. on the shortest day of the year, just 183 days ago.

Saturday, June 20, 2020 (notice the three 20’s in a row, surely a lucky sign for today! But if you missed it today, you still have six more times to still enjoy having three 20’s in a row) marks the summer solstice, which was at 2:43 p.m. today in the Northern Hemisphere. The official beginning of the 2020 summer season!

While 2020 has been anything but normal, and for so many a very difficult time, having our temperatures back in the mid-70s today, along with seeing the boats on the water, people on our beaches and the smell of suntan lotion in the air is a welcome sign and change to the last few months.

For those of you that long for more sunshine, today is your day. After today, each day will become just a little bit shorter and in the Tahoe City area, just shy of two (2) minutes a day (yes, I’m rounding up) will be lost.

Don’t blink, before you know it another season will be here!
