Toys for Tots, Zano’s – Truckee, California Zano’s Family Italian & Pizzeria and the United States Marine Corps Reserve are hosting a Chamber Mixer and Toys for Tots Collection Party tonight, Monday, December 10, 2012 at Zano’s restaurant in Truckee, California.

Tonight is the third kick-off collection party for Toys for Tots.    Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage along with the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve’s Toys for Tots campaign has set a goal to collect 1,500 toys for local North Lake Tahoe children in need.

You’ll find toy collection sites through-out the North Lake Tahoe – Truckee area in many local businesses.  You can bring your new, unwrapped toy to one of the four Toys for Tots kick-off parties, or you can drop off your new, unwrapped toys at any of the local businesses, including all Coldwell Banker offices.

Zano’s is the only Toys for Tots collection kick-off party in Truckee.   This year Zano’s will be providing free appetizers, desserts, a no-host bar, and live music by Sheldon Felich!  Santa will also be present for photos and handing out candy canes.

Cost:  Bring a new, unwrapped toy for children ages newborn to 17 years

If you don’t know what toy to buy you can always write a check (make it payable to “Toys for Tots Tahoe-Truckee”) and give a monetary donation.  Any new, unwrapped toy/gift is greatly appreciated.

There is only one more Toys for Tots Kick-Off party after tonight – Wednesday, December 12, 2012 at the River Ranch Lodge, Highway 89 and Alpine Meadows Road.

Don’t forget Moody’s Bistro in Truckee is giving each customer one drink and/or dessert with every toy donated by December 14, 2012, so even if you can’t get to one of the kick-off parties there are still many ways to enjoy in the collection efforts.

Giving comes in so many different ways, this is your chance to make a difference for the local Tahoe-Truckee area children so come out and have some fun at Zano’s Toys for Tots event.

Santa’s Party, Granlibakken Ski Resort – Tahoe City, California Get ready for some winter fun with Santa, at Santa’s Party this Sunday, December 9, 2012!  Santa will arrive in style, on his fire truck at Granlibakken Ski Hill in Tahoe City tomorrow.

The Rotary Club of Tahoe City will be hosting its 13th Annual Santa’s Party and should be fun for everyone.  All children ages pre-school to 9 years old are invited for a day of free sledding, weather (snow permitting).  You may remember this past event as Sledding with Santa, so get ready to have some fun with, or without snow!

Santa will make a grand entrance, and the North Tahoe High School Jazz Band will play holiday music, along with Christmas caroling.  Check out Santa’s arrival from last year!

In addition to getting to talk with Santa, there will be live music, hot chocolate, cider, cookies, and hot dogs for everyone.

Truckee Community Christmas Once again the Truckee Community Christmas is busy collecting donations for Truckee’s neediest families over the holiday season.

The Truckee Community Christmas is a non-profit organization which is working with several other non-profit groups in the area that are collecting food, toys, coats, and other items a family needs and distributes them to local Tahoe families that need assistance during the holiday season.

Last year, the Truckee Community Christmas program benefited approximately 215 families, 25 teenage moms and their babies, 60 low income seniors, and 60 homebound seniors.  This year the need is just as great, and any donation is greatly appreciated.

You’ll find the Truckee Community Christmas collection sites at many of the local holiday events, but you’ll also find them collecting non-perishable goods at Safeway and Savemart in Truckee this year.

If you don’t have time to shop, or drop by a donation, this year you can donate cash via Paypal on their new website www.TruckeeCommunityChristmas.com.

Welcome to Truckee, California If you’d like to volunteer a few hours and help with the Truckee Community Christmas collection efforts, they need people to help at the grocery stores this weekend, December 15 – 16, 2012.  They can also use volunteers in the stores during the weekdays.  Having volunteers in the stores greatly increases the visibility of the collection program and increases local donations.  If you have some free time and would like to help with collections, or with their other efforts contact Lynn Richardson at 530.587.7474.

They also need help wrapping toys.  To volunteer to wrap toys at Sierra Mountain Education Center, call Alissa Just at Mountain Home Center, 530-587-6681, extension 11. Wrapping efforts are set for Thursday, Dec. 20-21, 2012.

The Truckee Community Christmas Programs has several different collection drives going on right now:

  • FOOD DRIVE:
  • All food products should be non-perishable (no expired food, or homemade, canned or baked goods). Cash and gift card donations are gratefully accepted. Food collection bins are out and located by the exits of Safeway and Save Mart and at ten other drop-off points in town and will be there until December 16, 2012.
  • COAT DRIVE:
  • Warm, clean, gently used coats (no holes or broken zippers please) can be dropped off at Church of the Mountains on Church Street in downtown Truckee or at Sierra Bible Church on Brockway Road through Dec. 19.
  • Drop off Locations:

  • TOY DRIVE:
  • The toy collection drive is being headed by the Soroptimist club of Truckee.   Toy collection barrels can be found all over town. Donate new, unwrapped toys in the big red barrels at area banks, Safeway,
    Save Mart, CVS, Rite-Aid, law offices, the Sierra Sun office, schools, real estate offices and homeowner association clubhouses.
  • Wrapping paper is also needed. To volunteer to wrap toys at Sierra Mountain Education Center, call Alissa Just at Mountain Home Center, 530-587-6681, extension 11. Wrapping efforts are set for Thursday, Dec. 20-21, 2012.
  • SENIORS:
  • The Queen of Hearts Foundation and the Truckee Tahoe Community Foundation is organizing the senior program, which provides gifts and grocery gift cards and food to identified low income seniors and to area homebound seniors.
  • Homebound seniors are being taken care of by the Queen of Hearts Foundation and the Truckee Tahoe Community Foundation (who can be reached at 530-587-1776). The Adopt A Senior program is being run by Sierra Senior Services. For information on this program call (530) 550-7600.

Toys for Tots, Sunnyside Resort – Tahoe City, CaliforniaRosie’s Café will host a Toys for Tots Collection Party on Friday, December 7, 2012 in downtown Tahoe City, California.  This is the second of four Toys for Tots Collection parties, and offers another opportunity to become part of the Tahoe community program.

Rosie’s Café toy collection event organizers, Tim Cussin and Asron Gaines, who are both part of “The Gang”, which is a group of local professionals who are committed to making the greater Tahoe area an even better place to live, are having a fun evening for grown-up’s!

Attendees are asked to bring a board game, or a deck of cards to play, along with a new, unwrapped toy.  Rosie’s will be offering discounted appetizers and beverages throughout the evening.

The local Toys for Tots goal this year is to collect 1,500 toys for Tahoe children in need.  Come out and have a fund night at Rosie’s Café.

Need some shopping ideas?  Shopping for younger children is often easier, but older children need “toys/gifts” too.  For children 13 – 17 years in age, the organization suggests books, school supplies, make-up, science projects, soccer balls and nets, basket balls, board games, curling irons, blow dryers, back packs, and when in doubt, you can always write a check (see above) and give a monetary donation.  Any new, unwrapped toy/gift is greatly appreciated.

Too often we think our contributions don’t matter, but each gift counts!  This is your chance to make a difference for the local Tahoe-Truckee area children, so come out and have some fun at Rosie’s Café, or at one of the other Toys for Tots events.
