Tahoe Backyard Makers Market Kings Beach 2023Labor Day has come and gone, and as our Fall weather sets in, you’ll have one last chance to check out the Tahoe Backyard Makers Market 2023, in Kings Beach, California this Saturday, from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m., September 9, 2023.

This is the last weekend for this season, and it’s your chance to find that special gift among the art and crafter booths for that special someone on your list, or to find something just for you!

Maybe you just want to get out and about and enjoy something to drink, can you say craft brews?  Or just get a bite to eat, while enjoying some local entertainment and doing some people watching. 

It doesn’t matter what your reason is, this local event is fun and easy to enjoy!

Our weather is expected to be sunny, with temperatures in the high 60’s low 70’s, but once the sun goes behind a cloud, or beings to set, or as the evening comes on, it will cool off quicky, so wear layers and make sure to have a light jacket or sweater!

This event, unlike many of our local Kings Beach events, which happen on Main street, this one is at 8428 Trout Avenue, which is right behind the Bank of the West Building, that you’ll see on the main street in downtown Kings Beach, but is right behind it.

I like this local event as many of the items sold are often made right here in the Lake Tahoe Basin – greater Truckee area, or they are inspired by our local beauty by a vendor who lives near our area.

While it pains me to say this, the holidays and gift giving season is right around the corner, and this may be an opportunity to find a gift for that hard-to-please friend, or a way to treat yourself  along with supporting small businesses and artisans!

1st Fridays Tahoe City Outdoor Artisan Market – 2023

Did you know during our warmer weather, downtown Tahoe City on the first Friday of July, August, September and October has an open-air Artisan Market? 

This event started after the pandemic, and was a way for artists to gather and showcase their unique works for sale.  Add in some live music, and food vendors and you have a great, small local event!

Art, glass work, jewelry, and other hand-crafted items are some of the treasures you will find at this event.

It’s never to early to start shopping for that unique holiday gift, or for those special items to decorate you Tahoe home!

These monthly events create the opportunity to find unique and special pieces, that capture a moment in time – a place, a season, and for anyone spending time in our area, something to remember the your day in Tahoe of 2023!

Even if you’re not in the shopping mood, you will enjoy being outside in beautiful downtown Tahoe City.  

After shopping at the outdoor Artisian Market, perhaps an early dinner, or cool beverage at one of the local restaurants will round out your day.

If you enjoy listening to Bluegrass music, then you’ll want to add this event to your summer calendar!

On Friday, August 4, 2023 on the West Shore of Lake Tahoe at the Sugar Pine Point State Park  in Tahoma, California will be the Big Bluegrass Benefit Concert!

The Sierra State Park Foundation is presenting this benefit fundraising concert for the upkeep at Sugar Pine Point State Park.

They have three popular Bluegrass Bands lined up to play at the event:

Craig and I have gone to this event in the past and we had a great time!  

What a great way to spend a summer evening!  Who doesn’t enjoy being outdoors and sipping on a cold beverage, while listening to some great Bluegrass music with our beautiful mountains, towering pine trees, the Alpen glow, with Lake Tahoe shinning through all of it?

If you’ll be up in the greater North Lake Tahoe – Truckee area on Friday, August 4, 2023, and you are looking for an enjoyable evening out, this event is for you!.

  • Ticket Price does not include parking fee – see parking for more information. Parking is $10

Parking: $10/vehicle (you can pre-pay for parking too) | If you bike, or walk in there is no additional parking fee.  If you pre-pay, you must print your ticket and bring it with you to show to the kiosk.  No ticket, you’ll end up paying for it again.

Concert goers Tips:

  • Bring your low-back chairs (if you bring high-back chairs, be prepared to be at the back, or on the sides).  The concert area is on the lawn that slopes down towards the lake.  Low-back chairs, or beach blankets will be best in this area.
  • Bring blankets and bring/wear something warm (dress in layers). Our days are hot, but in the shade, or if a breeze come up off the lake, you’ll want something warmer to wear as temperatures can drop quickly in our area.
  • Bring a Flashlight – There are no night street lights ,so when the concert is over you’ll want to find your way back to your car and check your area before you leave it, so bring a flashlight.
  • Parking – Parking is limited, so carpooling is encouraged, or use public transportation.

Looking for something new to try in the greater Truckee – North Lake Tahoe area?  How about BINGO?    This summer The Great Ningo Revival will be held on Thursdays between  5 p.m. – 7 p.m., June 29 –  July 27, 2023 at the Village at Palisades Tahoe in Olympic Valley, California.

I am a sucker for the game of BINGO!  I’ve played it as a kid growning up.  Over the years I’ve paid to play it on cruise ships.  I’ve paid to play it at the Casinos in more than one city and location!  I’ve played it at Rosie’s Cafe during SnowFest! week and I’ve played it at the West Shore Market (Tahoe City, West Shore Lake Tahoe, by the Sunnyside Resort), and now here is my chance to play it in Olympic Valley!

Yes, I like the thought of shouting out BINGO to the dismay of the other players, and knowing that I was very lucky that day is very appealing to me.  I also really enjoy getting out and being around other like-minded Bingo players, who are also hoping to have a winning, and fun evening out of the house. 

So here are some of the details:

Each week the event is held on a Thursday at a different restaurant in the Village at Palisades Tahoe from 5 p.m. – 7 p.m.  The event is free, but food and beverages will cost you at the different locations.

Here is the restaurant/location line-up for The great Bingo Revival, Thursdays Olympic Valley – 2023 Season:

  •      June 29, 2023  |     Tremigo   
  •      July 6, 2023  |     Rocker
  •      July 13, 2023   |     Auld Dubliner

Time:  5 p.m. – 7 p.m.

All events are free to the public and may be held inside, or outside depending on the restaurant.

Remember Tahoe – Olympic Valley can be cool in the evenings so dress in layers in case the event is outsdie.

Ready to experience an outdoor movie in the greater North Lake Tahoe – Truckee area?

If your answer is yes, and you’ll be in the greater North Lake Tahoe – Truckee area on any Thursday between July 8, 2021, through August 12, 2021, check out a movie at the North Tahoe Regional Park at 6600 Donner Road in Tahoe Vista at dusk! 

This is a great local summer event, and enjoying an outdoor movie here in our area is just good old-fashioned fun! 

This is your opportunity to be outside and watch the Alpenglow turn our local sky all shades of pinks, purples, oranges, and golds, and then spend a couple of hours enjoying a movie on the big blow-up screen. 

If you haven’t been to an outdoor movie recently in a park, or at the beach, put this one your summer list of things to do this year!

The Thursday night movie series in Tahoe Vista is free and snacks are available for purchase.  If you want to bring your own picnic, that will work too!

The Tahoe Vista movies in the park will begin at dusk and all of the movies are either PG or PG-13. 

The fun starts around 6:30 p.m. and will be done around 9:30 p.m. with the movie starting at dusk (check your local weather app for a more precise time for dusk on the day of the movie).

Here are some Suggested Movie Going Tips:

Movie Attendees are encouraged to bring the following:

  • Chairs Only low-back chairs are allowed. However, if you bring a high back chair (I get it, not everyone can easily get up and down into a low-backed beach chair, I’m in that group myself) you will have to sit on the side, or in the back of the viewing area.
  • Bring sleeping bags/beach towels (small plastic tarp to put under them) if you’ll be on the ground.  Remember the ground most likely will be damp, so make sure you have the right things to put down on the ground for an enjoyable evening.
  • Bring blankets and jackets (our summer evening and nights will become cool and if a breeze comes up off the lake things will really cool down fast).
  • The fun starts around 6:30 – 7 p.m.   If you arrive early you can watch them set up the movie screen. You’ll get some people watching time in along with seeing the incredible Alpenglow over Lake Tahoe!
  • Snacks You are allowed to bring your own picnic/snacks, so if you’re on a diet, you can still stay on track and enjoy the movie, but they also have popcorn, candy, and drinks before and during the show.
  • Movies begin at dusk.
  • Bring a flashlight so you can make sure you’ve packed everything up and have an easy walk back to your car with extra light when the movie is over.

Come out and enjoy a beautiful summer evening in Tahoe Vista out underneath the stars and watch a free movie in the park this year!
