Memorial Day 2017 – Tahoe City CA

May 29, 2017 By Laura Allen, Broker Associate, Tahoe Real Estate Agent, CA RE 01473598 | 530-414-1260

Memorial Day 2017 – Tahoe City CA

Memorial Day 2017 - Tahoe City CAToday is Memorial Day 2017 – Tahoe City CA – a day to respect, remember and honor those that have and are serving – 0ur Veterans, those on active duty, and those that have fallen.

Over the past week, with the horrific events that have taken place in other countries, I can’t help but think about the cost of our freedom and those that have fallen and have made the ultimate sacrifice to protect, defend, and to keep us safe.

As our holiday weekend comes safely to a close, I can’t help but think about how fortunate I am to live in Lake Tahoe and in a country where anything is possible.

It has been a day to remember the cost at which that freedom is protected, but it is something that we should remember and be thankful for each and every day.

Today is the official day to remember those that have served to protect us and our way of life.

While Memorial Day comes but once a year, the truth is, every day should be Memorial Day.  In a world where each day brings new challenges, we should take every opportunity to remember, honor, and respect all those that have served and have given their lives to protect us.

It is a day to say “Thank You” to all those that are currently serving.  It starts at your front door. Those that respond to your 911 calls, and put their lives and health in harm’s way to help and protect you.

Our armed forces and local law enforcement services show up every day and by doing so, protect our freedom, and ability to work, live, and play in a country that has almost no restrictions on us.

I love living in Tahoe City and I love living in America.   Monday, May 29, 2017 is a day to count your blessings and to remember those that have made this life possible for us.

I want to say “Thank You” to all those that have served, are serving, or plan to serve.

To the men and women who wear the uniform to serve and protect our local communities, our states, and our country, I say “Thank You” for keeping us safe.  “Thank You” for being there .  “Thank You” for your sacrifice and service.

To those families that have lost a loved one.  Your family has paid the ultimate price for the freedom and safety we all enjoy.  While we have never met, my thoughts and prayers are with you.

So on this Memorial Day, take one last moment and remember those that are no longer with us.  Say “Thank You” to those that serve to protect us, and be thankful for the job they do each and every day.

Memorial Day 2017 – Respect, Honor, Remember – Thank You!

North Lake Tahoe – Truckee Real Estate May 2017

May 5, 2017 By Laura Allen, Broker Associate, Tahoe Real Estate Agent, CA RE 01473598 | 530-414-1260

North Lake Tahoe – Truckee Real Estate May 2017

It’s been a historic winter, with record breaking snow storms, and with over 700 inches of total snow reported at Squaw Valley (North Lake Tahoe – Truckee area), the winter of 2017 was epic!

Like many of my Tahoe City – Truckee area buyers, you’ve been on the side-lines for several months waiting for the snow to melt enough so you can find the right property to buy and now is the time to re-start your searches.

For most of you, warmer weather has been with you for some time, but here in the North Lake Tahoe – Truckee area, we are still melting out and our spring flowers are just blooming.  Today our temperatures were in the mid 60’s,with a lot of sunshine and blues skies.  It finally feels like our seasons have really changed!

We’ve had enough snow melt that we can now inspect the roofs, decks, and get a better feel for the properties that are for sale!  It’s also time to get those bikes out and take a nice long walk (with out snowshoes : )).

When everything is said and done, you’ll now find Lake Tahoe has filled up, there are no dry-docks or piers out of water, and the California drought is quickly becoming a distant memory.

I had clients that were ready to buy and sell in January February, March and April, and it’s been a very busy few months, but I’ll admit, it was tough working around the snow piles, storms, and power outages!

It was hard to keep up with everything, and while I have really enjoyed helping my Tahoe Second home buyers and sellers (yes, we’ve had a lot of real estate activity despite the weather), I just dropped the ball on my local Lake Tahoe – Truckee real estate blog, but I’m back!

What can I say, other than my time management plan when out the door on the extra time needed for the extra work our winter weather and storms brought to the area.

We’ve gone from this

to this!

Now that the huge snow piles have really begun to shrink, and melt away, along with visible signs of the bike path re-appearing on the West Shore, I’m getting back on my old schedule and you’ll start to see regular blog posts on my websites again!

If there are real estate topics you’d like to address and provide more information on, email at Laura@TahoeLaura.com , or call me at 530.414.1260 and I’ll do my best to work those suggested topics into my upcoming calendar of Lake Tahoe activities, events, and real estate topics!

Things to look forward to as we move to into our next season:

  • Farmers’ Markets – Tahoe City and Truckee
  • Free outdoor music concerts:
    • Tuesdays | Bluesdays – Village at Squaw Valley|
    • Tuesdays | Gray’s Crossing Live Music Series
    • Thursdays | Truckee Thursdays
    • Fridays | Kings Beach
    • Sundays | Tahoe City
  • Wine and Beer Tasting Events, Fundraisers, and local festivals and fairs
  • Free Outdoor Movies:
    • Wednesdays | Commons Beach in Downtown Tahoe City
    • Thursdays |  Village at Squaw Valley

Not to mention the Annual Tahoe City Downtown Wine Walk in Tahoe City, Truckee, Tahoe City and Kings Beach June, 4th of July events, Labor Day fireworks in Carnelian Bay, and the Annual Truckee Wine Walk closing out the season in October!

The North Lake Tahoe – Truckee area has so much to do, and with so many fun events to attend over the next few months, it will be hard to do it all, but it will be fun to try!

Valentine’s Day 2017 | Tahoe City California

February 14, 2017 By Laura Allen, Broker Associate, Tahoe Real Estate Agent, CA RE 01473598 | 530-414-1260

Valentine’s Day 2017 | Tahoe City California

Valentine’s Day 2017 | Tahoe City CaliforniaIt is Tuesday, February 14, 2017, Happy Valentine’s Day!

I’ve had my fair share of alone, and disappointing Valentine’s Days over the years, but not today!  Today, I was spoiled!

My Sweetheart delivered a dozen pink, purple, and red roses, along with chocolate covered strawberries.

It melted my heart that after thirteen years of being together, he still made the effort to say “Be my Valentine” – sweet, romantic, and thrilled to be surprised and appreciated!

Valentine’s Day 2017 | Tahoe City CaliforniaWe’re staying in for dinner this year, but if you’ll be dining out, and if you haven’t made your romantic dinner plans for tonight, or for the upcoming holiday ski President’s weekend, now is the time to pick up the phone and make reservations!
Perhaps you’re a true romantic and you’ve already made your plans for your Sweetheart and you’re all set for tonight, but if you’ll be up in the greater Tahoe City, or maybe you’re making a week out of the holiday, either way you may want some ideas on where to go for that romantic dinner.

If you’ll be in North Lake Tahoe  over the next couple of weeks, or on Valentine’s Day, here are a few of my favorite romantic area restaurants that are always a hit for dinner.

Romantic Places to Dine on Valentine’s Day in North Lake Tahoe, California Graham’s – 1650 Squaw Valley Road, Olympic Valley, CA Reservations 530.581.0454 www.dinewine.com

Graham’s offers unique California cuisine with a European influence.  They offer a full bar and an extensive world class, award winning wine list with over 800 bottles to choose from.

The atmosphere is always inviting and warm with white table linens, candle light, and during the winter you’ll enjoy the warmth and glow of the wood burning fireplaces.

We love going to Graham’s and having dinner at the bar.  It’s casual, fun, and the conversation is always lively at the bar (tip – reservations required for the bar as seating is limited and always fills up fast).  The staff is very attentive, and they have no problems catering to my vegetarian needs!

Graham’s menu does vary with the seasons and they always have something special on the menu.  Graham’s is located very close to the Village at Squaw Valley and the Resort at Squaw Creek.  Reservations are always highly recommended for this local area favorite, especially on the weekends and holidays.

Romantic Places to Dine on Valentine’s Day in North Lake Tahoe, California Soule Domain – 9983 Cove Street, Crystal Bay, CA Reservations 530.546.7529 www.SouleDomain.com

Soule Domain offers a variety of California cuisine.  This cozy and romantic restaurant is set in a Tahoe log cabin with a rock fireplace.  You’ll find the mountain charm of this place inviting and romantic.

Soule Domain is located just past Kings Beach, at the California / Nevada Stateline in Crystal Bay.  Seating is very limited and reservations are highly recommended for this romantic local favorite.

Romantic Places to Dine on Valentine’s Day in North Lake Tahoe, California Christy Hill – 115 Grove Street, Tahoe City, California Reservations 530.583.8551 www.ChristyHill.com

Christy Hill offers a variety of seasonal California cuisine with a French influence.  They have an extensive wine list and a nice selection of wines by the glass.  Dinner here is very romantic.  If you get there early enough, you can enjoy the alpenglow on Lake Tahoe.

If you want to see the Alpenglow (amazing colors of rose gold, violet, fuchsia, and sunset colors) today on Valentine’s Day, you need to be there before 5:30 p.m. as sunset comes early to our area at this time of year.  If you find yourself reading this post this summer, try and get there about 30 minutes before the sun is scheduled to set.  Well worth the extra effort to time it to see the Alpenglow!

This intimate lakeside restaurant offers wonderful views of Lake Tahoe perfect for a romantic evening.  Christy Hill is located in the heart of downtown Tahoe City, California.  Reservations are highly recommended for this popular lake view restaurant.

All three restaurants are always a great place to celebrate love, romance, or just being here in the greater Tahoe City – North Lake Tahoe!

Happy Valentine’s Day!

If you’re in the mood for a romantic dinner on Valentine’s Day, or the upcoming holiday weekend in the greater Tahoe City – North Lake Tahoe, California area, now is the time to make your dinner reservations!

More Snow in North Lake Tahoe – Truckee January 18 2017

January 18, 2017 By Laura Allen, Broker Associate, Tahoe Real Estate Agent, CA RE 01473598 | 530-414-1260

More Snow in North Lake Tahoe – Truckee January 18 2017

More Snow in North Lake Tahoe - Truckee January 18 2017If you haven’t heard, the North Lake Tahoe – Truckee area has had back-to-back winter storms that continue to come through the area leaving feet, not inches of new snow.

Since my last update  on our giant snow storms that left feet of snow on January 5, 2017, today, just 13 days later on January 18, 2017, it has started to snow , and once again, we’re expecting another 1-2 feet of new snow over-night.

According to the Sierra Sun in their Tahoe skiing: 3-8 feet of snow recorded in four days at upper elevations by Cassandra Walker, on January 13, 2017 she noted three fun facts about our snow fall citing Liesl Kenney/ Squaw Valley Alpine Meadows (Ski Resort), here are the two that I found very impressive:

  • Over the past 45 years Squaw Valley Alpine Meadows January snowfall has averaged 70 inches.  With 177 inches (of snow) in the first 12 days of 2017, Squaw Valley Alpine Meadows is already at 254% of their January average!
  • The average annual snowfall for Squaw Valley Alpine Meadows is 450 inches.  As of January 12, the ski resort is at 63% of average for the entire winter!

It is true the past few drought years have been really tough to get through, but with all of this snow in just a few days reminds us of just how lean those snow years have been.

We are expecting 1-2 feet of new snow tonight!  For those that will be here for the upcoming weekend the snow conditions should be amazing for the North Lake Tahoe and Truckee areas.  If winter sports are something you enjoy, you’re going to have a fun weekend here!

It’s hard to imagine just how much snow we have here, and how huge these winter snow storms have been in the North Lake Tahoe area until you see it in person.

It’s been a long time since we’ve had such big back-to-back daily snow storms that just kept dumping more, and more, snow in the greater Tahoe City, Squaw Valley, Tahoe Donner, and Northstar areas, but that is exactly what has happened during the first half of January 2017.

Our area is beautiful, cold, and it is an impressive sight to see the tall walls of snow by the roads, and seeing our homes that look like they could only come out of a movie scene!

More Snow in North Lake Tahoe - Truckee January 18 2017To give you an idea of just how much snow we’ve received here in greater Tahoe City – Truckee, North Lake Tahoe area, here are snow totals from some of our popular ski resorts as of today, January 18, 2017:

Homewood Ski Resort – Homewood, CA – The snow base is at 52″ with the upper mountain at 108″ (I live about 4 miles from the base of the ski resort on the West Shore of Lake Tahoe in Tahoe City, so I know they have amazing conditions!).

Northstar Ski Resort – Truckee, CA – Base is at 66” with a season total of 277″!

Alpine Meadows Ski Resort – Alpine Meadows, CA and Squaw Valley Ski Resort in Olympic Valley –   Base at 83″ and the summit is at 132″!

Tahoe Donner Ski Resort, Truckee, CA – Base of 100″-120″(that’s 10 feet of snow)!

These winter snow storms continue to make our roads very slick and dangerous so be sure to check with CalTrans , or NVRoads, depending on if you are staying in California, or headed over to Nevada for current road conditions.

The power outages that we experienced last week seem to be behind us with just about everyone back on-line.  As we gear up for the next round of snow storms, now is the time to re-check your emergency kits, re-stock, or add those extra items that you could have used during the last power outage to your emergency supplies.

Take a look just how beautiful the West Shore of Tahoe City is after a mega snow storm!

More Snow in North Lake Tahoe - Truckee January 18 2017

If you haven’t planned a trip to come up to Tahoe to ski, cross-country ski, snowboard, snowshoe, snowmobile, ice skate, or just make a snowman and play in the snow, now is the book your winter trip to the greater Truckee, Tahoe City, and North Lake Tahoe area!

January is more than half over and the phrase “let it snow” has never been more true!  Come up and take advantage of one of the best snow and ski seasons that the North Lake Tahoe and Truckee area are enjoying!
