Santa's Party - Tahoe City Saturday December 10 2016This year the party is twice the winter fun with Santa, at Santa’s Party this Saturday, December 10, 2016, followed by the Tahoe City Winter Sports Park Grand Opening of the Ice Rink, which will follow at 1 p.m.!

Santa will arrive in style, on his fire truck at the Tahoe City Winter Sports Park in Tahoe City  on Saturday morning!

The Rotary Club of Tahoe City and the Tahoe City Public Utility District will be hosting its 17th Annual Santa’s Party and it should be a lot of fun for everyone.

All children ages pre-school to 9 years old are invited for a day of free sledding, along with a pancake breakfast (pancakes, sausage, and hot beverages) and Santa will be handing out gifts.  You may remember this past event as Sledding with Santa, so get ready to have some winter fun!

Santa will make a grand entrance, and the North Tahoe High School Jazz Band will play holiday music, along with Christmas caroling.

In addition to getting to talk with Santa, there will be live music, along with warm drinks and food.

Santa’s Party – Tahoe City, California

Where: Tahoe City Winter Sports Park (Also known as the Tahoe City Golf Course in the summer),

251 North Lake Blvd., Tahoe City, California.

When:  Saturday, December 10, 2016 – 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Santa’s Party

Tahoe City Ice Skating Rink – Grand Opening – dedication, ribbon cutting at 1 p.m. open free skating from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Cost:  FREE (Donations are encouraged and accepted for Santa’s Party), Free ice skating from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m..  Ice skate rental fee does apply if you don’t have your own skates.

The Rotary Club of Tahoe City and the Tahoe City Public Utility District are able to put this annual event in Tahoe City along with a lot of help from the community and thanks: Sierra Sun, Safeway, SaveMart, Sierra Sun, Tahoe Truckee Lumber, Geared for Games, Cafe Zenon, The Tahoe City Winter Sports Park, The Truckee Highway Patrol, The placer County Sheriff’s Department, and the North Tahoe Fire Department.

This year following Santa’s Party, the grand opening of the seasonal ice skating rink at the Tahoe City Winter Sports Park will follow at 1 p.m.

The ribbon cutting ceremony and donor recognition will begin at 1 p.m.  Free ice skating (cost for skate rentals if you don’t have your own skates) and celebrity guest Olympic Gold Metal Winner and Chief Mountain Host of Squaw Valley Jonny Moseley will be there to celebrate the new ice rink in Tahoe City!

The Tahoe City Ice Rink grand opening, along with Santa’s Party is open to the entire North Lake Tahoe community, and it’s free, so come out and have a day of fun.

Home for the Holidays Truckee and North Lake Tahoe!In our house we have a lot of holiday fun, after all who doesn’t enjoy wearing a flashing holiday light shaped bulb necklace, or a reindeer antler headband?  However, when it comes to holiday decorations, I’ll admit we are on the scarce side and we don’t do a lot inside of our home. 

Over the years we’ve learned from our dogs that while we find the holiday decorations festive and fun, they have seen this as an opportunity for new chew toys and complete dog chaos despite our efforts to puppy proof our home. 

If you’ve seen the movie “Turner and Hooch”  then you know the kind of zany trouble they can and have gotten into over the years.  We want to keep everyone safe, so beyond a holiday wreath on the door and some garland on the fireplace mantel we don’t have a lot of holiday decoration to show off!

The North Lake Tahoe and  Truckee area has always had that mountain charm.  During the holidays I think our area could pass for the Village that Santa must live in with all of the lights, trees, and snow on the ground, it’s just magical.

We’ve found that getting in the holiday mood and to get our fix of holiday decorations can be done quickly by just driving through Downtown Historic Truckee.  If we have time to stop get something to eat and walk along the shops – ho, ho, ho! 

If you want a break from the day-to-day holiday hustle in your own home community, then plan a quick trip to Truckee and the North Lake Tahoe area and soak in some of our ski-resort winter mountain atmosphere, and enjoy the cold weather, snow, and holiday charm that comes from small town living!

Here are your dining options in the North Lake Tahoe and Truckee area for this Thanksgiving Day – Thursday November 24, 2016.

Dining Options in North Lake Tahoe Thanksgiving 2016It’s Tuesday, just two days before the big event and if you still haven’t figured out what, or who will be cooking Thanksgiving Day Dinner, here are some your dinning options if you’ll be here in the greater Tahoe City, or Truckee area this holiday weekend!

As I look in our refrigerator and contemplate a long shopping list of items to buy so I can cook our holiday dinner for two this year, I have to think to myself, would reservations be a better way to go.

If you’re reading this post, you too may be in the same boat – so what are your Thanksgiving Day dinning options for 2016?

If you’re going to be here in the greater Lake Tahoe, California area for the upcoming Thanksgiving Day holiday and you haven’t made your dining plans, now is the time to pick up the phone and get those dinner reservations!

Here are your some of your Thanksgiving Day dinner dining restaurant options in the greater North Lake Tahoe, California area for Thursday, November 24, 2016:

I’m sure there are more options, but these restaurants and events seem to happen every year and are a good bet for a wonderful meal.

While it is possible that Craig and I could still stay at home and cook, there’s a very good chance we will be making Thanksgiving Day Dinner Reservations some where here in the North Lake Tahoe area.

If you’re thinking about dining out this year you will need to be sure to call ahead, check on reservation availability and menu options and go from there.  Remember if your first choice is gone, keep on dialing; someone is going to have room for you.

Fall in Tahoe City, CaliforniaFall in Tahoe City, California is one of my favorite times of the year here! All of our seasons are wonderful here in the North Lake Tahoe – Truckee area, but there is something very special about our Fall season. 

Perhaps it is because it the one season that is often over-looked once we hit October, but if you make the journey here, you’ll be rewarded with our scenic beauty, along with having the place all to yourself!

Today was Monday, November 14, 2016 and these photographs were taken on my daily walk on the West Shore of Tahoe City.

Fall in Tahoe City, CaliforniaI think our Fall, which for many unofficially starts right after Labor Day, and it will run until we hit the holidays at the end of the year.  It is a season that offers so much to anyone who enjoys being outdoors.

Perhaps as I grow older this change of seasons is more poetic, or maybe it’s just knowing that once the heavy snow hits the ground my daily walks will move indoors onto a machine.  Maybe it’s because it’s now dark by 5:30 p.m., and I miss those long warm summer days and evenings.  Regardless of the reasons, Lake Tahoe has never looked more inviting! 

You can see that the leaves are long gone, and there was no one around on the beach today, or on the bike path.  The summer crowds are long gone, and while tomorrow we are expecting rain here in Tahoe City turning to snow later in the day and possibly on Wednesday, for now I can’t help but enjoy our beautiful Fall days.

Veterans Day November 11 2016 - North Lake TahoeToday is Veterans Day, November 11, 2016 here in the North Lake Tahoe – Truckee, California area and across the entire United States of America.  

It is a day to remember those that have fought, served, protected, and have given the ultimate sacrifice, their lives, to protect our freedom.

We live in a country where we can easily forget how fortunate we are to be “free” as we rush about our daily business.  

It is easy to forget that we have the freedom to say what we want, when we want to, and go where we choose to go, and have access to endless opportunities and information, without having to get the permission of a government official.  Personal Freedoms that many will never experience.   

Don’t fool yourself into beliving that the rest of the world operates the way we do, they don’t!  Appreciate, value, and respect how special our country is when it comes to our individual freedom rights! 

Every day should be the day that we say “Thank You” to all those that have served, are serving, or plan to serve. 

To the men and women who serve and protect our local communities, our states, and our country, be proud and say “Thank You” for keeping us safe.  “Thank You” for being there.

We should say “Thank You” every day, so this Veterans Day take a moment and remember those that are no longer with us.   Say “Thank You” to those that serve to protect us, and be thankful for the job they do each and every day.
