Truckee Community Christmas, Truckee, California December 2013

It’s that time of year, when we are asked as a community to help those in need. This year the Truckee Community Christmas, a non-profit organization is once again collecting toys, food, and has organized a local coat drive.

You may not realize that the Truckee Community Christmas program helps out low-income families, teen moms and their babies, seniors who are homebound and other deserving residents in the area that just need a little extra help.

There are four different ways you can help out and make a difference in our area through your generous donations.

A Coat Drive in Truckee, California is under way. New and gently used coats, hats, scarves, gloves, and warm sweaters are being collected for those in need. All sizes are wanted: Men, Women, and Children. This is a great opportunity to take a look inside of your closets and give away those coats and sweaters that you no longer wear, or have out grown. It’s a two-for-one. Get organized and help others out that really need assistance.

Coat donations can be made at the Church of the Mountains in downtown Truckee, or at Sierra bible Church on Brockway Road.

Food Collection Barrels have been placed in local grocery stores for non-perishable food items.

New Unwrapped Toys are also being collected, and you can place your donations in any of the collection bins around town at the local banks, real estate offices, schools, HOA clubhouses and businesses around town.

Volunteer The Truckee Community Christmas also needs volunteers. Giving of your time is also a wonderful gift to give. To help out visit www.TruckeeCommunityChristmas.com or call 530-587-2757.

Look for the Collection Barrels that have been marked with the Truckee Community Christmas Square Red Logo on them to make your donations.

All items collected will be distributed to local Tahoe needy families through the Truckee Community Christmas project.

Outdoor Film Festival – Moody’s, Truckee, CA, Sat., November 23, 2013

If you don’t have plans for tonight, check out the inaugural outdoor Film Festival event sponsored by Moody’s Bistro, Bar, & Beats, tonight, Saturday, November 23, 2013 in downtown historic Truckee, California.

The street between Bar of America and Moody’s has been closed off and Moody’s has set up couches, chairs, fire pits, heaters, and a bar! I was in downtown historic Truckee earlier today and they were working to get everything set-up for this evening, and the setting is great for an outdoor movie!

The inaugural outdoor Film Festival will show “Backcountry (Snowboarding): The Works of Tim Manning” and “Legend of Aahh’s: A True Fable”.

What a great way to get into the upcoming winter season spirit than by putting on your warm winter wear and watching great films outdoors! You know you love being here in Tahoe and you’re going to have a great time at what will be a fun block party here in Truckee! So make your plans now to come out tonight!

Where: Between Bar of America and Moody’s Bistro, Bar, & Beats, at 10007 Bridge Street, in downtown historic Truckee. They’ve blocked on the block between Donner Pass Road and Jibboom Street.

Cost: FREE! Donations to the High Fives Foundation are welcome

Bar: Beverages are available. Cost varies depending on item purchased.

Weather: It’s cold today, with evening temperatures expected to drop down into the low 20’s/high teens, so be sure to dress warmly! You’re in Tahoe and you know you’re ready for cold, winter weather, so now is the time to enjoy it!

Holiday Tree Lighting – Truckee, CA, Friday, November 22, 2013

If you’re looking for a way to get into the holiday mood, check out the annual holiday tree lighting ceremony and holiday festival this Friday, November 22, 2013 in downtown Truckee, California.

Come out and enjoy some holiday fun in downtown historic Truckee with the lighting of the Bud Fish Tree, a visit from Santa, hot chocolate and caroling.

This 20+ year tradition will begin at 4 p.m. when elementary school children will decorate the Christmas trees that will line Donner Pass Road in downtown Truckee.

At 4:30 p.m. Santa will arrive by the Truckee Fire Department’s antique fire truck and will end up in front of the Bud Fish Tree for the annual Lighting Ceremony, which should happen at 5:15 p.m. The Holiday Tree is located in front of the Train Depot in downtown historic Truckee.

When: Friday, November 22, 2013 – Tree decorating 4 p.m. Santa arrives at 4:30 p.m. Tree Lighting at 5:15 p.m. Times are approximate, and if you don’t want to miss out on the fun, arrive early!

Cost: FREE

Ornament Cost: Memorial tree ornaments can be purchased inside the Welcome Center for a donation to honor cancer survivors, or to pay tribute to the lives lost to cancer. We all know some who is fighting the battle, or has lost the battle with cancer, so give generously.

All proceeds from the ornaments will be donated to the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life of Truckee-Tahoe

Weather: It’s cold today, so be sure to dress warmly, with temperatures only in the low 30’s today, as the sun goes down it’s only going to get colder!

Gobble, gobble! The leaves have turned bright yellow, gold, orange and red here in North Lake Tahoe and that means it time for some fall fun. The ASC (Auburn Ski Club) Training Center will host the 37^th Annual Donner Lake Turkey Trot run around Donner Lake in Truckee, California this Saturday, November 16, 2013 beginning at 9:30 a.m. at the West End of Donner Lake!

This time of year is beautiful here in the Donner Lake area and if you’re up to the seven mile race, this is your chance to come out and enjoy November in the Tahoe-Truckee area.

Registration will be between 9 a.m. – 10 a.m. Walkers will start the event off at 9:30 a.m. followed by the 10 a.m. Children’s Mashed Potato Mile race, and the event ends with the 10:30 a.m. Trot!

The Donner Lake Turkey Trot is a fund raiser supporting the ASC Training Center for Junior cross country skiing programs. If you’d like to learn more about the ASC visit www.AuburnSkiClub.org, or email info@Assoc.AuburnSkiClub.org, or call 530-426-3313.

You’ll have a fun day at the Donner Lake Turkey Trot and you’ll have a chance to win pumpkin pies and turkeys (raffle), not to mention bragging rights around the holiday table this year for participating. The Awards will be given out at noon!

31^st Annual Truckee Ski & Snowboard Swap, Sat., Nov. 2, 2013!

It’s happening right now, the 31^st Annual Truckee Ski and Snowboard Swap, Saturday, November 2, 2103 at the new Truckee Community Recreation Center (at the Pioneer Center Road Round-A-Bout Hwy 267 and Donner Pass Road) in Truckee, California.

The cost is only $2 a person, children under 12 are free, from 11 a.m. today until 4 p.m. This is a great way to get newer equipment at a fraction of the price.

You’ll find local representatives from Tahoe ski shops and the nearby resorts on hand to answer to your questions. You’ll find winter clothing, ski equipment, boots, boards, poles, hats, gloves, accessories, and items you probably never thought of but could really use.

This event is sponsored by the Truckee-Donner Recreation and Park District and proceeds from the event go to help the District’s Youth Sports Programs.
