Truckee Arts and Crafts FestivalFall is in the air here in the North Lake Tahoe – Truckee area and this weekend is the perfect time to check out  the Historic Downtown Truckee Arts and Crafts Festival, on Saturday, September 6 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday, September 7, 2014 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Downtown Historic Truckee will be closed off to local traffic between Bridge Street and Jibboom Street on both Saturday and Sunday for the Arts and Crafts Festival.

This is your chance to not only shop the local artisans that will be here in the Tahoe area for the two-day arts and crafts festival, but a great way to shop year-around Truckee businesses that are also located along main street.

It’s not too early to start your holiday shopping now and find that unique gift for that special someone.  If you know you’ll be looking for that special piece of “Tahoe” art, crafts, and/or other items that are unique to our area to furnish your Tahoe second home, or if you know there will be someone on your gift-giving list that will really enjoy getting a gift that just reminds them of the Lake Tahoe -Truckee area, this event is a great one to go to.

Being outdoors here in September is a wonderful time of year to be here in Lake Tahoe.  Our late summer days are nice and hot with temperatures into the mid-to-high 70’s, while our evenings are definitely cooler than they were a month ago.  It’s the perfect weather combination, and what better place to enjoy your summer days than here in the Truckee –  Tahoe City area!

If you’ll be up here in the greater Truckee, or North Lake Tahoe area this weekend, Sept 6-7, 2014 don’t forget to check out the Truckee Arts and Crafts Festival in downtown Truckee, CA and the Gourmet Marketplace in Northstar.

The Truckee Arts and Crafts Festival is sponsored by the Truckee Downtown Merchant’s Association at 530-587-3161, and the Pacific Fine Arts Festival group.

Need more reasons?  Even if you’re not a big shopper, but just want to enjoy being outside in beautiful downtown Truckee taking in the festival atmosphere, this is a fun way to do it.   You’ll find jewelry, paintings, pottery, glassware, clothing, and so much more.

You’ll also discover some great places to have breakfast, lunch, dinner, or a place to have a cool beverage and snack.

What can I say, I fall for the smell of fresh fudge, or carmel candied apples from the local candy store in downtown Truckee every time!

The Truckee Arts and Crafts Festival in downtown Truckee is free to the public.

If you are a super-shopper don’t forget to also check out the Gourmet Marketplace at the Northstar Village on Saturday, Sept 6, 2014 from  11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday, Sept 7, 2014  from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. where you’ll find a wonderful collection of gourmet and culinary vendors.

I went last year and found gingerbread pancakes (mixes), gourmet chocolates and nuts, English Curd (lemon, orange, and apple spice), along with amazing shortbread cookies, just to name of few of the taste-treats that I found at last year’s event.

The Gourmet Marketplace at the Northstar Village is part of the 29th Annual Autumn Food and Wine Festival in Northstar, which has a number of cooking demonstrations, and events (combination of fee and free events) this weekend.

If you’ll be in the greater West Shore, Homewood, Truckee, Tahoe City, or Kings Beach, North Lake Tahoe area in this weekend be sure to stop by the Truckee one of the Fine Arts and Crafts Fairs in the area.  It’s a great way to spend some time and enjoy being here in Lake Tahoe.

Truckee Tahoe AirShow and Family Festival Saturday July 12, 2014This weekend is the Truckee – Tahoe Airport AirFair and Family Festival, Saturday, July 12, 2014.  The event starts at 9 a.m. and will go until 5 p.m.

There will be Air Show Events all day long including planes soaring and swirling in the air, stunt jumpers flying in wing suits, along with kids activities, a food court,  beer garden, and vendor village.  Admission is free and so is the parking!

What could be more fun than a day of Tahoe sunshine, watching stunt planes, having an ice cold beverage, and something from the food court?

This is a fun, free event and it’s a great way to enjoy a beautiful summer holiday weekend day up here in the greater Truckee area.

You may not know that this local event supports many youth organizations in the area including Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) Chapter 1073, KidZone Museum, and the Truckee Optimist Club, all non-profit organizations.  Over the past two years this event has raised over $97,000, and this year’s goal is $70,000.

Ribfest, BBQ and Fundraiser, Truckee, Sunday, June 15, 2014The 5th Annual Truckee Ribfest, BBQ, and Fundraiser for the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life of Truckee-Tahoe will happen this Sunday, June 15, 2014 from 12 noon to 4 p.m. at the Tri-Counties Bank Plaza in Truckee, California.

If you love BBQ, Ribs, a Beer Garden, Music, and Classic Cars, the 5th Annual Ribfest and BBQ in Truckee, CA is the place for you to be this weekend!

There will be entertainment, a kid’s corner, arts and crafts and lots of great food, not to mention a raffle to raise money for the Truckee-Tahoe’s American Cancer Society’s Relay of Life group.

This is a fun, local Tahoe event and this year the theme is Ribs, Rods & Rock-n-Roll.   I can already smell the sweet smell of BBQ smoke in the air that promises mouth-watering delights!  What can I say; food just seems to be better when it’s eaten outdoors here in the Truckee area!

In addition to the Ribfest and BBQ, there will be classic cars, local rock-n-roll bands, a beer garden and children’s activities.  It’s a wonderful combination of BBQ, music, and festival fun!  Can you think of a better way to enjoy a June Sunday afternoon in Truckee?

Street Clean-Up & Town Block Party, Truckee Day, Sat., June 7, 2014 It’s time for the 11th Annual Truckee Day in Truckee, California!  Join fellow residents and volunteers for the annual street clean-up and town-wide BBQ in Truckee, CA, on Saturday, June 7, 2014 beginning at 8 a.m. at one of their 23 check-in stations.

The Truckee Day event is a town-wide street clean-up day and pre-registration is not required.  If you’ll be up in the Truckee area this Saturday, June 7, 2014, come out and join the fun, while keeping Truckee clean!

Volunteers will be assigned a stretch of road to clean based upon your check-in location.  You’ll go out and clean the area, and then at noon meet up at the Truckee River Regional Park on Brockway Road where everyone will get together for a town-wide block party.  Be sure to get to your check-in location early to get your work materials and a volunteer t-shirt and free lunch ticket!

Want to know what happened in 2013? Check out this numbers from the TruckeeDay.org website:  45 Champions (sponsors), 23 Check-in Stations, 800+ Volunteers, 5+ Tons of Trash Collected last year, but over the past 10 years over 75 ½ tons of trash collected, and if that’s not enough how about 700 Burgers Consumed at the Block Party last year!

This is a chance for you to take personal pride by helping out and keeping our beautiful town of Truckee clean and to get it ready for the upcoming summer fun season!
