15th Annual Spaghetti Dinner - Sierra Senior Services, Jan 30, 2016The 15th Annual Spaghetti Dinner supporting the Sierra Senior Services organization will be held in Truckee, California on Saturday, January 30, 2016.

This annual event is a big fund raiser for the Sierra Senior Services organization.  The 15th Annual Spaghetti dinner will start this Saturday evening with doors opening at 5 p.m. at the Truckee Community Center (8924 Donner Pass Road) with dinner being severed at 6 p.m. and BINGO following at 7 p.m.

If BINGO isn’t enough for you, this fun event also includes a silent auction, so you’ll be able to bid on many wonderful items in addition to having a fun evening of food and games!

15th Annual Spaghetti Dinner - Sierra Senior Services, Jan 30, 2016This fund-raising event that will benefit the Sierra Senior Services program has sold out for the past eight years, with over 500 attendees.  You should get your tickets in advance on-line at www.SierraSeniors.org, or at the Sierra Senior Services Center, or at Plumas Bank in Truckee, CA.  If you’ve missed out on buying your tickets in advance, you can always try to buy a ticket at the door.

Sierra Senior Services feeds and supports Seniors in the North Lake Tahoe and Truckee Communities.  Senior Meals on Wheels is a non-profit organization that provides meals to qualified senior citizens age 60+.  

Last year, during 2015, the Sierra Senior Services provided over 38,000 meals (which is an increase in need over 2014) to at-risk seniors who otherwise might have gone hungry.  The demand for the services that the Sierra Senior Services organizations continues to increase.  Their website is loaded with great information on who they are helping:

  • Sierra Senior Services (non-profit group that oversees the Meals on Wheels program) only get 30% of their funding from the government.  That means 70% of the annual budget comes from fundraising activities and private donations.
  • In North Lake Tahoe and Truckee, California area 75% of the home delivered meal recipients live alone.
  • In Nevada County (Most of Truckee is located in Nevada County, California) 62% of the home delivered meal recipients are over the age of 80.
  • Over 88% of the home delivered meal recipients rely solely on Social Security.
  • Approximately 54% of the recipients are disabled.
  • A $75 donation will help feed a senior for a week.

12th Annual Soroptimist – Holiday Shopping Festival – Dec 6, 2015Holiday shopping in the North Lake Tahoe – Truckee area just became a little easier with the 12th Annual Soroptimist International of Truckee Donner fundraiser event, a Holiday Shopping Festival, this Sunday, December 6, 2015 from 2 p.m. – 5 p.m. at the Truckee Community Recreational Center.

If you’re stuck on what to get that someone special, still need a gift for your co-worker, the book club members, or you just need more stocking stuffers, this is a great local event that supports many non-profit groups, and allows you to shop local.  You’ll find unique items that you may not find in a big box store and you’ll be helping those with good causes that go far beyond this holiday season.

This year over forty (40) vendors will have items for sale.  Here is what you’ll find at this years’ event:  jewelry, clothing, items to decorate your home, art work, seasonal items, and items that were made and produced that are unique to the North Lake Tahoe area.

Why shop the Soroptimist annual fund-raising event this Sunday?  It’s a good question, and the reason that you should come out and pay the $10 admission fee for this event is because you’ll be supporting their second largest annual fund-raising event that provides support to many local projects that serve the greater local Truckee area.

This holiday shopping festival is also an opportunity for other non-profit groups to also raise funds for their causes so it’s an easy opportunity to help others without having to do anything more than show up and spend a few dollars.

Arts and Crafts Festival, Truckee – Sept 12-13, 2015It’s the 8th Annual Truckee Arts and Crafts Festival in Downtown Historic Truckee this weekend!

It will feel like summer here in the North Lake Tahoe – Truckee area and this weekend is the perfect time to check out  the Arts and Crafts Festival in Truckee this Saturday, September 12 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday, September 13, 2015 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Downtown Historic Truckee will be closed off to local traffic between Bridge Street and Donner Pass Road on both Saturday and Sunday for the Arts and Crafts Fair and with over 60 professional artists get ready to see some wonderful work.

This is your chance to not only shop the local artisans that will be here in the Tahoe area for the two-day arts and crafts festival, but a great way to shop year-around Truckee businesses that are also located along main street.

Arts and Crafts Festival, Truckee – Sept 12-13, 2015This is the last arts and crafts festival until next year, so if you haven’t been up to Truckee, or North Lake Tahoe this year, for most of Northern California and Northern Nevada, you can still get to the area in just a few hours.

This is a great way to start your holiday shopping and find that unique gift for that special someone.  If you just purchased a second home here in Tahoe this is a great place to find that special piece of “Tahoe” art, crafts, and/or other items that are unique to our area to help you with your final decorating touches.

Being outdoors here in September is a wonderful time of year to be here in Lake Tahoe.  Our late September days are filled with sunshine and with temperatures expected to be in the mid 80’s on Saturday and Sunday, it will still feel like summer!  What better place to enjoy your September days than by being here in the Truckee –  Tahoe City area!

The Truckee Arts and Crafts Festival is sponsored by the Truckee Downtown Merchant’s Association at 530-587-3161, and the Pacific Fine Arts Festival group.

If you are a super-shopper don’t forget to also check out the Gourmet Marketplace at the Northstar Village on Saturday, Sept 12, 2015 from  11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday, Sept 13, 2015  from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. where you’ll find a wonderful collection of gourmet and culinary vendors.

I have gone the past two years and really enjoyed the free cooking demonstrations and found some amazing gourmet treats, with the hand-made chocolates being one of my favorites!

The Gourmet Marketplace at the Northstar Village is part of the 30th Annual Autumn Food and Wine Festival in Northstar, which has a number of cooking demonstrations, and food/wine events (combination of fee and free events) this weekend.

If you’ll be in the greater West Shore, Homewood, Truckee, Tahoe City, or Kings Beach, North Lake Tahoe area this weekend be sure to stop by the Truckee Fine Arts and Crafts Fair.  It’s a great way to spend some time and enjoy being here in Lake Tahoe.

Truckee–Tahoe Airport AirFair Show-Festival, Sat, July 11, 2015Today is the Annual Truckee – Tahoe Airport AirFair and Family Festival, Saturday, July 11, 2015.  The event starts at 9 a.m. and will go until 4 p.m., weather permitting.

There will be Air Show Events all day long including planes soaring and swirling in the air, stunt jumpers flying in wing suits, along with kids activities, a food court,  beer garden, and vendor village.  Admission is FREE and so is the parking!

What could be more fun than a day of Tahoe sunshine, watching stunt planes, having an ice cold beverage, and something from the food court?

This is a fun, free event and it’s a great way to enjoy a beautiful summer holiday weekend day up here in the greater Truckee area.

You may not know that this local event supports many youth organizations in the area including Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) Chapter 1073, KidZone Museum, and the Truckee Optimist Club, all non-profit organizations.  Over the past several years this event has raised almost $100,000, and they hope to raise even more this year.

If you love to taste wine, consider yourself a foodie, and enjoy the thrill of a great silent auction, then the 41th Wine Tasting – Soroptimist International of Truckee Donner event today, Saturday, June 6, 2015 is the one for you!

You’ll get to taste some great wines, beer, and appetizers prepared by local area restaurants and caterers at the 41st Annual Wine and Restaurant Faire Fund Raiser presented by the Soroptimist International of Truckee Donner.

This event has something to please just about everyone!  The combination of wine and beer tasting, along with great food, live music and live and silent auction is a fun way to kick-off your Tahoe summer season.

This annual event is always a sell-out and will be held at the Coyote Moon Golf Course, which is right before the entrance to Tahoe Donner in Truckee, CA on Saturday, June 6, 2015 from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

The Soroptimist International of Truckee Donner will offer goods and services for auction.  Bring your credit cards and check book so you’ll be prepared when it comes time to bid on some wonderful trips, golf and dinning packages, home maintenance, clothing, jewelry, accessories, art, and many other fantastic items.

If you’re not familiar with what the Soroptimist group is, and what they do and their goals for the community: the Soroptimist group is an international volunteer organization for business and professional women, who work to improve the lives of women and girls in local communities and throughout the world.

The Soroptimist organization of Truckee Donner relies on charitable contributions to fund their local Truckee, California programs, which include: local high school scholarships, youth education, women and senior programs.
