April 22, 2025 By Laura Allen, Broker Associate, Tahoe Real Estate Agent, CA RE 01473598 | 530-414-1260

Wine Tasting Benefit – Kiwanis | 2025

Our seasons are changing, and you can tell summer is on its way!

In the greater North Lake Tahoe – Truckee area nothing says spring has arrived in our area than the Kiwanis Annual Silent Auction and Wine Tasting Benefit, which is traditionally held on the first Sunday in May!

Following tradition, their annual fund raiser will be held at the Sunnyside Resort on the West Shore of Lake Tahoe, Tahoe City, California on Sunday, May 4, 2025!

This is the 33rd Annual North Lake Tahoe Kiwanis Community Benefit Auction and Wine Tasting spring fund raising event, and it’s one of our early events to kick off the next season of outdoor activities and fun!

This is a sell-out event, and you are encouraged to get your tickets early.  If you are not sure if you’ll be in our area, you can always wait and see if you can get a ticket at the front door, but why wait?  Even if you get tickets and can’t attend you’ll still be supporting a great cause and organization.

The Kiwanis Club of North Lake Tahoe does a great job in getting a nice variety of goods and services for auction.

Some of the items you may find this year are: trips, golf, and dinning packages, home maintenance, clothing, jewelry, accessories, art, wine, and many other great items to bid on.

This year the estimated value of items that will be available for auction is over $50,000 this year!

If you enjoy the thrill of finding a deal, then this is your kind of event with the live and silent auctions making for a fun and exciting event!

In the past the Kiwanis Club of North Lake Tahoe has provided support to a wide variety of local group.

All proceeds go to benefit a wide range of local Tahoe community programs.

The Boys and Girls Club; North Tahoe High and Middle school sports and music programs; Excellence in Education Foundation; Arts for the Schools; Disabled Sports Far West USA; Food for local families in need; Concerts in the Park at Commons Beach; the Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts; Annual four-year higher education scholarships; Big A (after school program); and Parents Night Out (childcare) are some of ways the Kiwanis have helped out locally.

At this years’ event there will be seven renown California wineries, along with local award winning brewery Alibi Ale!  Here is who will be at the event offering their premium wines and beverages:

  • Truchard Vineyards
  • Rodney Strong Vineyards
  • Romeo Vineyards & Cellars
  • ZD Wines
  • Schug Carneros Estate
  • VSG Chateau Potelle
  • Larson Family Winery
  • Alibi Ale Works Lake Tahoe

This is a fun, local event that happens at an amazing setting with beautiful views of Lake Tahoe.

Who doesn’t enjoy tasting wine, sampling hors d’oeurves while being at the Sunnyside Resort Restaurant which closes to the public for this special event.

Can you think of a better way to spend a Sunday than at a wine and auction tasting event?

Annual Cushing Crossing – Olympic Valley – 2025

April 21, 2025 By Laura Allen, Broker Associate, Tahoe Real Estate Agent, CA RE 01473598 | 530-414-1260

Annual Cushing Crossing – Olympic Valley – 2025

Note:  Due to bad weather this event is moved to Saturday, May 10, 2025.

If you are looking for a signal that our Tahoe winter season is coming to an end, look no further than the Annual Cushing Crossing event in Olympic Valley, California!

The second half of March delivered a lot of snow to the North Lake Tahoe – Truckee area and now it’s time to end the season and move towards summer!

While the Palisades Tahoe ski resort in Olympic Valley will continue to having skiing through Memorial Day weekend, the 33rd annual Cushing Crossing event will be held Saturday, May 3, 2025!

This annual event is the unofficial signal that the ski season is coming to an end.

This event is fun, and you’ll have some real laughs, along with being impressed at those that will attempt the 33rd Annual Cushing Crossing-Olympic Valley – 2025, on Saturday, May 3, 2025.

I’ve been to this pond skimming event several times and it is one crazy, fun time that everyone enjoys watching.

Skiers and snowboarders ski down the hill, in creative costumes that they have put together, and attempt to skim across Cushing Pond.

This is a contest and participants are awarded for their outrageous costumes, along with how far and well they skim the pond.

There are some great prizes, along with bragging rights, which will bring out the best in those that participate in this event.

Some contestants will make it across the pond in style, while others will crash with a big splash and sink into the pond water.

It’s fun to see how the judges score each participant and who gets big points for costumes, originality, style, and of course how they skimmed the pond, and if they made it across the pond.

While there will be some seating that is already set-up, from past experience, I recommend bringing along your own camping chairs so you are guaranteed to have a seat in a spot where you can see the participants.

Check out the fun from a past event – the Cushing Crossing Event in Olympic Valley with this video (pre-resort name change):

Spring Forward – Time Change | Sunday, March 9, 2025

March 5, 2025 By Laura Allen, Broker Associate, Tahoe Real Estate Agent, CA RE 01473598 | 530-414-1260

Spring Forward – Time Change | Sunday, March 9, 2025

It is time to once again to Spring Forward and change your clocks by moving the time forward one hour!

On Sunday, March 9, 2025, you will need to change your clocks by one hour if you live in the North Lake Tahoe – Truckee area!

Changing our time with that” Spring forward” action will give us longer days and it begins our march forward to warmer days. It is something I look forward to each year!

On Sunday, March 9,2025 (the change happens on the second Sunday in March), which just happens to be the last day of our local Tahoe SnowFest 2025 celebration!

You may be asking yourself, what’s the big deal?  How big of an impact does this make on our days here in Tahoe?

An interesting fact about the time change that you may not really appreciate is, a sunset at, or before  6 p.m. won’t happen again here in Tahoe City until October 31, 2025 – about 236 days, almost 8 months, from Saturday, March 8, 2025!

On Saturday, March 8, 2025, sunset will be at 6:04 p.m. Once we spring forward on Sunday, March 9, 2025, sunset will be an hour later at 7:05 p.m. which gives us more time to enjoy our time outside here in beautiful North Lake Tahoe – Truckee, CA area!

On you list of things to do, remember before you go to bed on Saturday night, you’ll need to set any manual clocks ahead one hour!

Since we have the twice a year time – clock change, here is my list of things additional tasks to do before the Spring Forward day:

  • Change clocks in our home, office, kitchen (microwave and oven), and cars (move forward one hour).  Yes, we still have some manual clocks that do not reset on their own. : )
  • Check smoke alarms It doesn’t hurt to make sure they are all working and replace those that don’t respond.  Since most have multiple-year batteries in them, replace those that are older.  You should have one alarm in each sleeping area, and one in each common area on each floor.
  • Check all carbon monoxide alarms/detectors Again, just a quick check to make sure they are still working.  You should have at least one carbon monoxide alarm/detector on each floor, best if you can have on in each sleeping area.  If you find yourself falling asleep in a common area, put one in that room too!
  • Fire extinguishers If you don’t have fire extinguishers in your car, in the kitchen, garage, and other places that could benefit from a fire extinguisher, now is the time to get them.

It is also time to check to make sure the ones you have haven’t been moved and/or damaged.  Over the years I have found that this is also a good time to buy and add another one and put it in a room that doesn’t already have one. Buying an additional extinguisher twice a year can help make it easier on your budget.

  • Any security device, or item that uses a battery that doesn’t have a re-charge option and is wireless (security cameras, video doorbells, exterior/interior lights) that need to be changed often, but some last for an extended period of time, so now is a good time to check them, and re-charge.
  • All Flashlights (working, extra batteries), candles, matches, lighters, short-term lighting devices. Time to make sure all are in good working order.
  • Back-up charger device for cell phones/laptops There are a number of extra power devices that can hold a charge for up to a year, but now it a good to check and re-charge them as needed.  Technology continues to improve in this area, so check into getting a solar charging option for those devices.
  • Canned goods/emergency food supplies You never know when you might not be able to go to the store, so if you haven’t checked your emergency food and daily living supplies (emergency food for each member in the house, your pets, bottled water, toilet paper, paper towels, cleaning products, etc.), now is the time to check those supplies, rotate old out – new in, and get other supplies on hand.
  • Make sure you have the following:
    • Get a battery-operated radio – Check to make sure the one you have is working.
    • Get a small TV that can be powered by connecting to just a USB port device that works on an antenna (free tv – news and information in an emergency, or power outage)
    • Get the TV antenna device that will work with a digital TV that can get us the free national channels.  You never know when the cable could go down and you’ll need local news and information.
  • Create a fire evacuation emergency plan.  Have you designated a location outside of the Tahoe Basin – Truckee area that everyone will/can meet at, or someone to call outside of the area to let them know you are alright and where you are at?  This is critical so you can find out if others in your household are also okay..  Having a plan in place before an emergency is critical if you spend any time in our area.
    • Figure out your “grab bags” – items to take with you if you had to leave the area with just a few minutes of notice.  I have put together a list of items throughout our home to take.  Knowing what the item is, and what room it is currently located in can save you a lot of time and give you your best opportunity to get those items in a “must leave” situation.
      • Having your bags partially loaded, along with the “grab and go list” in it, makes you more prepared for that emergency event.  Now is the time to do these critical tasks for that “just in case” emergency moment.

For those who are not as familiar with the Lake Tahoe –  Tahoe City  – Truckee areas some of our important utility lines (electric, cable, phone) are located above ground, yes, telephone poles.

Several times a year the power will go out for all different types of reasons, so being prepared for a “no power situation” is a must!

We are also located in a high-fire zone.  The reminder to be prepared for a disaster (wildfire) and having everyone in your house-hold familiar with what to do if the worst-case situation should happen is very important, so make your emergency plans now if you haven’t, and if you have those plans, now is the time to review them.

Take advantage of this timely reminder to not only change your clocks, but to do some routine safety checks, along with being proactive on your emergency home preparation plans for that just in case moment!

Upcoming future dates to keep in mind (number of days are from March 9, 2025):

  • Next time Change:  Sunday, November 2, 2025 | 238 days (Fall Back and Gain One Hour)
  • Longest Day of the Year:  Friday, June 20, 2025 – Summer Solstice | 103 days
  • 4th of July | 117 days
  • Shortest Day of the Year 2025 – Sunday, December 21, 2025 | 287 days – Winter Solstice

If you haven’t made your plans to be here in the North Lake Tahoe – Truckee area, now is the time to look at your calendar and figure out your trips for the rest of the year!

If you live in the greater North Lake Tahoe – Tahoe City area, it’s time to move your clocks forward Sunday, March 9, 2025!

SnowFest 2025 – North Lake Tahoe

February 20, 2025 By Laura Allen, Broker Associate, Tahoe Real Estate Agent, CA RE 01473598 | 530-414-1260

SnowFest 2025 – North Lake Tahoe

Get ready for the Annual SnowFest 2025 North Lake Tahoe Area Snow Festival

This year SnowFest 2025 will start on Wednesday, February 26, 2025, and end on Sunday, March 9, 2025.

Ten days of winter fun in the greater North Lake Tahoe area with fifty (50) mountain-town events!

Snow festival event planners and volunteers work all year long to make this winter experience one of the very best and it is an event that should be on your calendars!

It is hard to believe that our winter season is about to begin to wind down, and it is even harder to believe that this is the 43rd Annual Event!

Yes, this event has been around since the spring of 1982, and it is still going strong over four+ decades later in 2025!

While the North Lake Tahoe SnowFest event has become one of the largest winter carnival events in the western United States, it really represents the best of small town living!

I think one of its best features is how they combine fun events and activities with local fund-raisers for our local organizations that do so much for our community.

I am a big fan of SnowFest and I hope you get the chance to come up and enjoy some local Tahoe fun too!

If you haven’t been to any of the North Lake Tahoe Snowfest events in the past, now is the time to make plans to be here!

Happy New Year 2025 | North Lake Tahoe

January 1, 2025 By Laura Allen, Broker Associate, Tahoe Real Estate Agent, CA RE 01473598 | 530-414-1260

Happy New Year 2025 | North Lake Tahoe

A new day, a new year, and another year in the history books!  Hello 2025!

Bringing in 2025 means we are now half way through another decade!  So many changes, and yet so many thngs stay the same.  A lot of joy and sadness wrapped up into just tweleve short months.

As each year passes, my gratitude and appreciation for seeing old friends, making new relationships, and for having the opportunity to have new experiences and adventures grows in my heart.

I value the past as I move forward into each new day, but I still struggle with how time doesn’t stop for anyone!

Today is January 1, 2026, and just like, another new year has already begun!

As you make your plans and set your goals for 20the upcoming new year, and beyond, be sure to make time for the activities, things, and tasks that really matter to you.  Stop and cherish the moments that you’ll look back on as “the good old days”, which are the days you are living through today!

The sun rose at 7:20 a.m. here in the greater North Lake Tahoe – Tahoe City – Truckee, California area on January 1, 2025.

Sunshine with day time temperatures in the low 40’s with little to some snow on the ground.  A big change from the holiday week in 2021, just three years ago, which left us with multiple fee of snow!

The days are still very short and with only 9 hours and 30 minutes of daylight before the sunset at 4:49 p.m.!

It is my New Year’s wish that every day in 2025 brings you prosperity, healthy days, laughter, joy, and a reason to celebrate!

Where ever the road in life takes you this year, I hope your travel and journey will be a safe one!

Happy New Year!

Happy New Year 2025 | North Lake Tahoe, California!
