Outdoor Film Festival – Moody’s, Truckee, CA, Sat., November 23, 2013

If you don’t have plans for tonight, check out the inaugural outdoor Film Festival event sponsored by Moody’s Bistro, Bar, & Beats, tonight, Saturday, November 23, 2013 in downtown historic Truckee, California.

The street between Bar of America and Moody’s has been closed off and Moody’s has set up couches, chairs, fire pits, heaters, and a bar! I was in downtown historic Truckee earlier today and they were working to get everything set-up for this evening, and the setting is great for an outdoor movie!

The inaugural outdoor Film Festival will show “Backcountry (Snowboarding): The Works of Tim Manning” and “Legend of Aahh’s: A True Fable”.

What a great way to get into the upcoming winter season spirit than by putting on your warm winter wear and watching great films outdoors! You know you love being here in Tahoe and you’re going to have a great time at what will be a fun block party here in Truckee! So make your plans now to come out tonight!

Where: Between Bar of America and Moody’s Bistro, Bar, & Beats, at 10007 Bridge Street, in downtown historic Truckee. They’ve blocked on the block between Donner Pass Road and Jibboom Street.

Cost: FREE! Donations to the High Fives Foundation are welcome

Bar: Beverages are available. Cost varies depending on item purchased.

Holiday Tree Lighting – Truckee, CA, Friday, November 22, 2013

If you’re looking for a way to get into the holiday mood, check out the annual holiday tree lighting ceremony and holiday festival this Friday, November 22, 2013 in downtown Truckee, California.

Come out and enjoy some holiday fun in downtown historic Truckee with the lighting of the Bud Fish Tree, a visit from Santa, hot chocolate and caroling.

This 20+ year tradition will begin at 4 p.m. when elementary school children will decorate the Christmas trees that will line Donner Pass Road in downtown Truckee.

At 4:30 p.m. Santa will arrive by the Truckee Fire Department’s antique fire truck and will end up in front of the Bud Fish Tree for the annual Lighting Ceremony, which should happen at 5:15 p.m. The Holiday Tree is located in front of the Train Depot in downtown historic Truckee.

When: Friday, November 22, 2013 – Tree decorating 4 p.m. Santa arrives at 4:30 p.m. Tree Lighting at 5:15 p.m. Times are approximate, and if you don’t want to miss out on the fun, arrive early!

Cost: FREE

Ornament Cost: Memorial tree ornaments can be purchased inside the Welcome Center for a donation to honor cancer survivors, or to pay tribute to the lives lost to cancer. We all know some who is fighting the battle, or has lost the battle with cancer, so give generously.

All proceeds from the ornaments will be donated to the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life of Truckee-Tahoe

Weather: It’s cold today, so be sure to dress warmly, with temperatures only in the low 30’s today, as the sun goes down it’s only going to get colder!

An Elegant Affair – Tahoe City, California, November 22, 2013

Each year on the Friday evening the week before the Thanksgiving Day holiday weekend, the Elegant Affair has been held in Tahoe City, California. It’s one of those annual traditions that unofficially kicks off the holidays for me in the North Lake Tahoe area.

This year the 37^th Annual Elegant Affair event will happen on Friday, November 22, 2013 beginning at 6:30 p.m. at the Boatworks Mall in downtown Tahoe City, California.

The North Tahoe Boosters organization puts on a wonderful evening of tasting fine wines, beers, and gourmet hor d’oeuvres to raise money for the North Tahoe High and Middle School Athletics. There is also a silent auction and 100% of the events proceeds will go to support the North Tahoe Boosters and their programs.

The North Tahoe Boosters support Tahoe’s local sports programs. They cover the costs for many items like uniforms, equipment, travel expenses, and without their financial support, many programs would just not happen. They also give out annual scholarships to seniors who have participated in sports at North Tahoe, so their support of the local Tahoe youth occurs on many levels.

An Elegant Affair is held inside at the Boatworks Mall with wine, beer, and local restaurants set-up tasting stations around the mall on both the first and second levels. Holiday wear is encouraged and black tie is optional!

I’ve attended this event over the years, and I can tell you it’s a wonderful evening. It’s fun to dress up and see old friends, meet new people and between the wine tasting, enjoying an array of interesting appetizers from local restaurants, don’t be surprised if you find yourself swaying, or dancing to the live Jazz music this year by Remmel Wilson.

Did I mention shopping? Don’t forget to bring your checkbooks because you’re going to find some great silent auction items to bid on. What could be more fun than wine tasting and shopping at a silent auction and all for a great cause?

This year the event organizers will have nineteen (19) local Tahoe-Truckee restaurants and twenty-nine (29) fine wineries and breweries. If you love wine tasting and are looking for a way to kick-off your holiday season while supporting a good local organizations this is the event for you.

When: Friday, November 22, 2013, Starting at 6:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

Where: Boatworks Mall, 760 North Lake Blvd., Tahoe City, California

Cost: $55 Ticket / $90 per Couple. Special pricing for Teaches and Coaches at $55 per Couple

This event sells out each year, so get your tickets now. You can purchase tickets on line at www.NorthTahoeBoosters.org (online sales will stop at 4 p.m. on the day of the event), or in person at Rosie’s Café, The Store, or at the door at the Boatworks Mall on the day of the event beginning at 2 p.m. until 5 p.m.

When Can I have Studded Snow Tires on in Tahoe City, California

One question I’m often asked as a local Tahoe City REALTOR is when can I have studded snow tires on my car in Tahoe City, California? It’s a great question, especially once it starts to snow here!

If you’re new to California you may not know that we’re not allowed to have studded snow tires on all year long.

California Vehicle Code [Section 27454 (e)] permits studded tires to be used on vehicles between November 1 and April 30 of each year, so those of us who want to have studded snow tires on our cars have to make a tire change twice a year.

We are well into November, and so far it’s been a very mild fall with only one snow storm, but it will snow and your time is running out to get your studded snow tires back on your car.

Yesterday was the day I changed out my summer tires for my trusty studded snow tires in anticipation of the snowy Tahoe City winter weather to come. I love having the studded snow tires on my car and I can’t imagine going through a Tahoe City winter without them!

Not everyone knows what to do, or where to go if you want studded snow tires on your car, or you may studded snow tires, but you don’t know where to take them to have them put back on.

I took my car to the local Tahoe City Chevron Station. They do a great job and they were happy to work me into their schedule.

In addition to changing my tires, they replaced my windshield wipers, checked and refilled both my antifreeze and windshield wiper fluids. All things that I’ll need to have a safe winter driving season.

If you need a place to get your studded snow tires changed call the Tahoe City Chevron at 530.583.0211 and find out when you can bring your vehicle in. They are located at the junction of Highway 89 South and Highway 28 in Tahoe City, California.

While most people use the calendar to signal a change in the seasons here in Tahoe City, I mark the change in seasons based on what tires are on my SUV. When the studded snow tires are on its late Fall-Winter and when they come off I’m ready to welcome in the Tahoe Spring-Summer season!

Studded Snow Tires are allowed in California from November 1 through April 30 each year.

Don’t forget it’s time to put on your studded snow tires today. Our first big Tahoe City snow storm is right around the corner!

Here are some current real estate market trends and data for the Donner Lake community in Truckee, California 96161 area for November 2013. This is my local view of how the Donner Lake community is really doing in the housing market.

The Donner Lake area is a popular second home community in the Truckee – Tahoe area offering great recreational amenities and close proximity to all of the local ski resorts.

The Donner Lake area offers a wonderful Tahoe lifestyle. The Donner Lake area has excellent recreational amenities such as beautiful public and private beaches, public tennis courts, bike trails, and public boat launch areas.

The Donner Lake community offers lakefront homes, along with lake view properties, luxury, high-end mountain homes, and smaller Tahoe cabins, and a nice selection of condo options. The area also has commercial opportunities, including restaurants, small convenience stores, and motels.

Over 44% of all sales in the Donner Lake home market were above $500,000, with one Donner Lake lakefront sale, which is a good signal that the Donner Lake and Truckee luxury markets are on the upswing.

The Donner Lake community, along with entire Truckee area real estate market has improved.

Donner Lake real estate market conditions are better. Sellers are finding shorter marketing times and improved pricing!

While many Donner Lake sellers believe that the summer months are the time to sell (who can blame them, Donner Lake is a beautiful place to be during our warmer months), our Tahoe buyers are always looking for new listings and Donner Lake homes to buy all year long, including our snowy winter months!
