Spring Forward – Time Change | Sunday, March 8, 2026

Spring Forward – Time Change | Sunday, March 8, 2026

Despite all of the talk of stopping the two seasonal time changes, we’re still doing them!

It is time to once again to Spring Forward and change your clocks by moving the time forward one hour!

On Sunday, March 8, 2026, you will need to change your clocks by one hour if you live, or are visiting the North Lake Tahoe – Truckee area!

Changing our time with that” Spring forward” action will give us longer days, and it begins our march forward to warmer temperatures.

Despite all of the winter snow fun, this is something I look forward to each year!

On Sunday, March 8, 2026 (the change happens on the second Sunday in March), which just happens to be the last day of our local Tahoe SnowFest 2026 celebration, the time on our clocks will change!

You may be asking yourself, what’s the big deal?  How big of an impact does this make on our days here in Tahoe?

Photo is of the West Shore Lake Tahoe - Hurricane Bay, Tahoe City lLake Tahoe beach area covered in snow with the reflection of trees on the lake surface. The sky has turned colors of orange, yellow, and pink. At the bottom of the photo is a copyright mark followed by Laura Allen 530-414-1260 www.TahoeLauraRealEstate.comAn interesting fact about the time change that you may not really appreciate is, the sun will sunset at, or just before  6 p.m. on Saturday, March 7, 2026.

A sunset before 6 p.m. won’t happen again here in greater Tahoe City area until October 31, 2026 – about 237 days ( almost 8 months), from now.  A nice long stretch of sun filled evenings!

On Saturday, March 7, 2026, sunset will be at 6:04 p.m. Once we spring forward on Sunday, March 8, 2026, the sun will set about an hour later at 7:05 p.m.

On you list of things to do, remember before you go to bed on Saturday night, you’ll need to set any manual clocks ahead one hour!

Since we have the twice a year time – clock changes, here is my list of things additional tasks to do before the Spring Forward day:

  • Change clocks in our home, office, kitchen (microwave and oven), and cars (move forward one hour).  Yes, we still have some manual clocks that do not reset on their own. : )
  • Check smoke alarms It doesn’t hurt to make sure they are all working and replace those that don’t respond.  Since most have multiple-year batteries in them, replace those older alarms, and mark on the device when you replaced it.  Knowing that an alarm was replaced in 2019, is helpful in 2026!  Remember, you should have one alarm in each sleeping area, and one in each common area on each floor.
  • Check all carbon monoxide alarms/detectors Again, just a quick check to make sure they are still working.  You should have at least one carbon monoxide alarm/detector on each floor.  If you can have one in each sleeping area, even better!  If you find yourself falling asleep in a common area, put one in that room too!
  • Fire extinguishers If you don’t have fire extinguishers in your car, in the kitchen, garage, and other places that could benefit from a fire extinguisher, now is the time to get them.

It is also time to check to make sure the ones you have haven’t been moved and/or damaged.  Over the years I have found that this is also a good time to buy and add another one and put it in a room that doesn’t already have one. Buying an additional extinguisher twice a year can help make it easier on your budget.

  • Any security device, or item that uses a battery that doesn’t have a re-charge option and is wireless (security cameras, video doorbells, exterior/interior lights) that need to be changed often.  For the devices that have  an extended period of time on replacing batteries, so now is a good time to check them, and re-charge.
  • All Flashlights (working, extra batteries), candles, matches, lighters, short-term lighting devices. Time to make sure all are still in good working order.
  • Back-up charger device for cell phones/laptops There are a number of extra power devices that can hold a charge for up to a year, but now it a good to check and re-charge them as needed.  Technology continues to improve in this area, so check into getting a solar charging option for those devices.
  • Canned goods/emergency food supplies You never know when you might not be able to go to the store, so if you haven’t checked your emergency food and daily living supplies (emergency food for each member in the house, your pets, bottled water, toilet paper, paper towels, cleaning products, etc.), now is the time to check those supplies, rotate old out – new in, and get other supplies on hand.
  • Make sure you have the following:
    • Get a battery-operated radio – Check to make sure the one you have is still working.
    • Get a small TV that can be powered by connecting to just a USB port device that works on an antenna (free tv – news and information in an emergency, or power outage)
    • Get the TV antenna device that will work with a digital TV that can get us the free national channels.  You never know when the cable could go down and you’ll need local news and information.
  • Create a fire evacuation emergency plan.  Have you designated a location outside of the Tahoe Basin – Truckee area that everyone will/can meet at, or someone to call outside of the area to let them know you are alright and where you are at?  This is critical so you can find out if others in your household are also okay..  Having a plan in place before an emergency is critical if you spend any time in our area.
    • Figure out your “grab bags” – items to take with you if you had to leave the area with just a few minutes of notice.  I have put together a list of items throughout our home to take.  Knowing what the item is, and what room it is currently located in can save you a lot of time and give you your best opportunity to get those items in a “must leave” situation.
      • Having your bags partially loaded, along with the “grab and go list” in it, makes you more prepared for that emergency event.  Now is the time to do these critical tasks for that “just in case” emergency moment.

For those who are not as familiar with the Lake Tahoe –  Tahoe City  – Truckee areas, most of our important utility lines (electric, cable, phone) are located above ground, yes, telephone poles, which puts them more at risk for damage.

Several times a year the power will go out for all different types of reasons, so being prepared for a “no power situation” is a must!

We are also located in a high-fire zone.  The reminder to be prepared for a disaster (wildfire) and having everyone in your house-hold familiar with what to do if the worst-case situation should happen is very important, so make your emergency plans now if you haven’t, and if you have those plans, now is the time to review them.

Take advantage of this timely reminder to not only change your clocks, but to do some routine safety checks, along with being proactive on your emergency home preparation plans for that just in case moment!

Upcoming future dates to keep in mind (number of days are from March 8, 2026):

  • Next time Change:  Sunday, November 1, 2026 | 238 days (Fall Back and Gain One Hour)
  • Longest Day of the Year:  Friday, June 21, 2026 – Summer Solstice | 105 days
  • 4th of July | America celebrates 250th year anniversary |  118 days
  • Shortest Day of the Year for 2026 – Monday, December 21, 2026 | 288 days – Winter Solstice

If you haven’t made your plans to be here in the North Lake Tahoe – Truckee area, now is the time to look at your calendar and figure out your trips for the rest of the year!

If you live in the greater North Lake Tahoe – Tahoe City area, it’s time to move your clocks forward Sunday, March 8, 2026!

Happy New Year 2026 | North Lake Tahoe

January 1, 2026 By Laura Allen, Broker Associate, Tahoe Real Estate Agent, CA RE 01473598 | 530-414-1260

Happy New Year 2026 | North Lake Tahoe

Hello 2026!!! A new day, a new year, and another year behind us!

Bringing in 2026, as a new year, means we are now much closer to 2030, than we were to 2020. It feels like this decade is flying by!

So many changes, and yet so many things stay the same.  A lot of joy and sadness wrapped up into just 365 days!

As each year passes, my appreciation for seeing old friends, and having new adventures adds to the gratitude I have for everything in my life.

I value the past, as I move forward into each new day.  I try to remember those that have touched and influenced my life in those quite moments during the day, that remind us that there are no guarantees for a tomorrow.

Today is January 1, 2026, and just like that, another new year has already begun!

As you make your plans and set your goals for the upcoming new year, and beyond, be sure to make time for the activities, things, and tasks that really matter to you.

Stop and cherish the moments that you’ll look back on as “the good old days”, which are the days you are living through today!

The sun rose at 7:20 a.m. here in the greater North Lake Tahoe – Tahoe City – Truckee, California area on January 1, 2026.

It looks like it will be a beautiful day here in the North Lake Tahoe – Truckee, CA area with sunshine and day time temperatures in the mid30’s with heavy, wet snow on the ground, and more snow on the way!.

The days are still very short and with only 9 hours and 30 minutes of daylight before the sunset at 4:49 p.m.!

It is my New Year’s wish that every day in 2026 brings you prosperity, healthy days, laughter, joy, and a reason to celebrate!

Where ever the road in life takes you this year, I hope your travel and journey will be a safe one!

Happy New Year!

Time Change – Fall Back Sunday, November 2, 2025

November 1, 2025 By Laura Allen, Broker Associate, Tahoe Real Estate Agent, CA RE 01473598 | 530-414-1260

Time Change – Fall Back Sunday, November 2, 2025

It’s hard to believe that it is November and it is time to change our clocks – again!  On Sunday, November 2, 2025 at 2 a.m. Daylight Savings Time will end!

This may be an outdated process for most of us, as most of your electronic items will automatically change and re-set themselves back one hour, but if you have any manual wall clocks, or cars that require you to manually make the change, get ready to set your clock back one hour this Sunday!

On Saturday afternoon I will re-set all of our clocks back one hour in anticipation of the 2 a.m. time change on Sunday morning!

As the old saying goes “Fall Back” (gain an hour by setting your clocks back one hour) and in the Spring, “Spring forward (lose an hour by setting your clocks ahead one hour) still applies!

We had such a wonderful Summer season, and our Fall weather has been amazing, that it is hard to believe that November is here and our winter snow storms are right around the corner!

If you live, or have a home here in the greater North Lake Tahoe – Truckee, California area you will need to change your clocks on either Saturday evening before you go to bed, or first thing on Sunday morning.

Here’s my list of things to do this weekend:

  • Change Time Setting our traditional and digital clocks in our home, office, and cars (turn back one hour).
  • Smoke alarms.  Check all smoke alarms to make sure they are still working.
    • Did you remember to write the date placed in service on the back of the device?  An easy way to keep track of how old they are and if they need to be replaced is by writing the date on the back, or top of the device (I use some tape and write the date on it).
    • It is recommended that you have a smoke alarm in each bedroom, and outside in the hall, along with having at least one on each floor.
  • Carbon monoxide alarms/detectors should all be checked to make sure they are still working.
    • While you are only required to have a carbon monoxide alarm on each floor, I’ve been adding a new carbon monoxide alarm to each room in our home.
    • Write the date you put the alarm into service so you’ll know when to replace it.
  • Fire extinguishers (check to make sure they haven’t been moved and/or damaged).
  • Security devices or Items that use a battery and are wireless (security cameras, video doorbells, exterior/interior lights), yes, it is time to check them to make sure they are secure and still have plenty of battery life.  Our cold weather does shorten the useful life and requires more frequent charges.
  • Flashlights (working, extra batteries), candles, matches, lighters, short-term lighting devices.
    • Having a flashlight in each room and by each door is easy to do and makes it easy to find when you need them.  Recent power outages remind me that the power can go out at any time, so it helps to be prepared.
  • Back-up charger devices for cell phones/laptops (if they have a solar option for re-charging that’s always a bonus) are out and fully charged.
  • Canned goods/emergency food supplies/water – We’ve been pretty good about rotating our inventory, but it’s time to have more items on hand, especially as we move into the colder/winter weather season.  Are you prepared for an extended emergency?
  • Batteries –  Flashlights, and other items require batteries and in checking our supply we were out of AAA batteries.  Recent supply shortages are a reminder to re-stock up as soon as possible to be ready for the upcoming winter season.
  • Photos | Update photographs of our home, property, contents in closets, kitchen, etc… so we’ll have evidence on the condition and contents for our insurance company, just in case something happens.
    • Exterior pictures of the roof and grounds are also helpful to have in case of damage from the upcoming winter season.
  • Insurance | Time to call our insurance broker to make sure we have enough coverage to rebuild.
    • Building costs have skyrocketed in the great North Lake Tahoe – Truckee area, and we’ve made more improvements, so it is important to make sure our cost to rebuild on a per square foot basis is accurate.
    • Our Insurance Brokers also reminds us we need to make sure we’ve met the 80%+ insured value and are not underinsured, which could cause us to not be fully insured.  If you haven’t spoken to your insurance broker in a while, make the call and make sure you’re up-to-date.
  • Evacuation plan |  We live within a high wildfire area and the wildfires in South Lake Tahoe a few summers ago were a big wake-up call and a reminder to plan ahead.  If you haven’t mapped out several ways out of your Tahoe home and area, now is the time to do so.
    • Have you established a meet-up location outside of the area?
    • Have you identified a friend/family member that lives outside of the area that everyone can call and check in with once they are in a safe place?
    • Taking a few minutes now to make sure your household has an emergency plan, and you know what to do once you are in a safe place, can provide peace of mind later knowing that everyone is safe and it will allow you to work on the next steps of reuniting.

Now is the time to make sure you are organized and ready for the next season, or challenge in life!

Take advantage of this timely reminder to not only change your clocks but to do some routine safety checks, along with taking care of your final fall/winter home preparation!

Upcoming future dates to keep in mind from Sunday, November 2, 2025:

  • Next time Change:  126 days – Sunday, March 8. 2026 | Spring Forward, Lose One Hour of Sleep
  • Shortest Day of the Year:  49 days – Sunday, December 21, 2025 | Winter Solstice
  • New Year’s Day January 1, 2026 –  60 days | Beginning of a new year!
  • Longest Day of the Year 2026 – 231 days – Sunday, June 21, 2026 | Summer Solstice
  • Next Fall Time Change:  364 days – Sunday, November 1, 2026 | Fall Back and Gain that Extra Hour – Again!

It has been another year of changes and fun, unexpected surprises!

Now more than ever is the time to take a moment and appreciate today, and those around you that make it special.  The past has happened, tomorrow never happens, so make the most of today – the here and now!

If you live in the greater North Lake Tahoe – Tahoe City area, it’s time to set your clocks back this Sunday, November 2, 2025!

Summer Movies at the Park in Tahoe Vista 2021

July 22, 2021 By Laura Allen, Broker Associate, Tahoe Real Estate Agent, CA RE 01473598 | 530-414-1260

Summer Movies at the Park in Tahoe Vista 2021

Ready to experience an outdoor movie in the greater North Lake Tahoe – Truckee area?

If your answer is yes, and you’ll be in the greater North Lake Tahoe – Truckee area on any Thursday between July 8, 2021, through August 12, 2021, check out a movie at the North Tahoe Regional Park at 6600 Donner Road in Tahoe Vista at dusk!

This is a great local summer event, and enjoying an outdoor movie here in our area is just good old-fashioned fun!

This is your opportunity to be outside and watch the Alpenglow turn our local sky all shades of pinks, purples, oranges, and golds, and then spend a couple of hours enjoying a movie on the big blow-up screen.

If you haven’t been to an outdoor movie recently in a park, or at the beach, put this one your summer list of things to do this year!

The Thursday night movie series in Tahoe Vista is free and snacks are available for purchase.  If you want to bring your own picnic, that will work too!

The Tahoe Vista movies in the park will begin at dusk and all of the movies are either PG or PG-13.

The fun starts around 6:30 p.m. and will be done around 9:30 p.m. with the movie starting at dusk (check your local weather app for a more precise time for dusk on the day of the movie).

Summer Movies at the Park in Tahoe Vista 2021 – Movie Line-up Schedule:

  • July 8, 2021  |  Onward (PG) 1 hr 42 minutes
  • July 15, 2021  |  Trolls World Tour (PG-13) 1 hr 30 minutes
  • July 22, 2021  |  Raya and the Last Dragon (PG) 1 hr 57 minutes
  • August 5, 2021  |  Abominable (PG) 1 hr 37 minutes
  • August 12, 2021  |  Cats and Dogs 3 (PG) 1 hr 24 minutes

Cost:  FREE

Where:  North Tahoe Regional Park – 6600 Donner Road in Tahoe Vista

All movies are subject to good weather conditions and safety protocols.

For more information, click here!

Here are some Suggested Movie Going Tips:

Movie Attendees are encouraged to bring the following:

  • Chairs Only low-back chairs are allowed. However, if you bring a high back chair (I get it, not everyone can easily get up and down into a low-backed beach chair, I’m in that group myself) you will have to sit on the side, or in the back of the viewing area.
  • Bring sleeping bags/beach towels (small plastic tarp to put under them) if you’ll be on the ground.  Remember the ground most likely will be damp, so make sure you have the right things to put down on the ground for an enjoyable evening.
  • Bring blankets and jackets (our summer evening and nights will become cool and if a breeze comes up off the lake things will really cool down fast).
  • The fun starts around 6:30 – 7 p.m.   If you arrive early you can watch them set up the movie screen. You’ll get some people watching time in along with seeing the incredible Alpenglow over Lake Tahoe!
  • Snacks You are allowed to bring your own picnic/snacks, so if you’re on a diet, you can still stay on track and enjoy the movie, but they also have popcorn, candy, and drinks before and during the show.
  • Movies begin at dusk.
  • Bring a flashlight so you can make sure you’ve packed everything up and have an easy walk back to your car with extra light when the movie is over.

Come out and enjoy a beautiful summer evening in Tahoe Vista out underneath the stars and watch a free movie in the park this year!

See you at one Tahoe Vista Summer Movies at the park this summer!
