Holiday Tree Lighting – Kings Beach 2018Looking for a way to catch the holiday season spirit?  Check out the free annual holiday tree lighting event in Kings Beach tonight!

There is still time to make plans to be in Kings Beach for their holiday tree lighting event, tonight, Friday, December 7, 2018.

Come out and enjoy a free holiday event in downtown Kings Beach, but the North Lake Tahoe Event Center, as the community comes out to celebrate the lighting of the holiday tree.

Santa and Mrs. Claus will arrive in style by fire truck with sirens and horns blowing.  Santa will then start the countdown, and then they will light up the holiday tree!

Once the tree has its twinkling lights on, the fun continues on inside the North Tahoe Event Center with free crafts, free hot soup, free hot coco and coffee.  For $3 you can get your photo taken with Santa.

  • Where: Tahoe North Conference Center, North Lake Blvd, Kings Beach, California (downtown Kings Beach)
  • When:  Friday, December 7, 2018 – 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.   
    • Tree Lighting will be at 5 p.m. so don’t be late!
  • Cost:  FREE Admission, Free Crafts, Free Hot Soup, Free Cocoa & Coffee | $3 Santa Photos

I’ve been to the Kings Beach Holiday Tree Lighting event in the past, and it is a lot of fun to watch the arrival of Santa, and then to do the count down.  Some of the children really get excited.

It will be cold tonight, and at 5 p.m. tonight when the holiday tree event is under way, the local temperature will be around 30 degrees, so dress warmly!

Take advantage of these free local North Lake Tahoe events.  It’s a great way to catch the holiday spirit and have some local Tahoe fun!

It’s a big weekend in the greater Truckee and North Lake Tahoe area if you’re hoping to see Santa!

Once again Santa will arrive by plane at the Truckee – Tahoe Airport this  Saturday, December 8, 2018 at 10 a.m. 

Typically we would expect Santa to arrive by his sled and flying reindeer, but this Saturday he will arrive in style, on his special holiday plane.  

I think it’s great that Santa is using all methods of transportation, including a plane! You won’t want to be late to see the arrival of Santa in Truckee.

This event is open to anyone that is here in the area, and you’ll enjoy some hot chocolate, holiday treats and for the kids, each one will receive a special gift.

This Saturday, December 8, 2018, in Tahoe City, California,from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. is the Rotary Club of Tahoe City and the Tahoe City Public Utility District annual Santa’s Party!

A holiday party is a lot of winter fun with Santa, and at Santa’s Party, which will be held at the Tahoe City Winter Sports Park (also home to the Tahoe City Golf Course int the summer) will be the location of this annual event!

Santa will arrive in style, on his fire truck at the Tahoe City Winter Sports Park  in downtown Tahoe City   followed by a pancake breakfast, cookie decorating, ice skating, sledding, and gifts from Santa for those children up to the age of ten (10)!

In addition to getting to talk with Santa, there will be music, along with warm drinks and food.

  • Where: Tahoe City Winter Sports Park (Also known as the Tahoe City Golf Course in the summer),
  • 251 North Lake Blvd., Tahoe City, California.
  • When:  Saturday, December 8, 2018 – 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Santa’s Party
  • Cost:  FREE (Ice skate rental fee does apply if you don’t have your own skates)
  • Breakfast:  Pancake and Sausage Breakfast, ice skating, sledding, cookie decorating, arts and crafts

The Rotary Club of Tahoe City and the Tahoe City Public Utility District are able to put this annual event on with a lot of help from the local community.  Special thanks to: Sierra Sun, SaveMart,  Tahoe Truckee Lumber, Geared for Games, Cafe Zenon, The Tahoe City Winter Sports Park, The Truckee Highway Patrol, The Placer County Sheriff’s Department, and the North Tahoe Fire Department.

This year we have already have snow on the ground, so this years’ event should be a great winter party. 

This is the third year that the Tahoe City area has had a seasonal ice rink, which opened has just opened at the Winter Sports Park, so there will be a lot of fun activities and things to do this year.

Santa’s Party is open to the entire North Lake Tahoe community, and it’s free, so come out and enjoy a little holiday fun.

The Great Truckee Pumpkin Race - Oct 21 2018If you missed last year’s Truckee Pumpkin Races, here’s your chance to see them this year.

Downtown Historic Truckee will once again be the place for the Great Truckee Pumpkin Race this Sunday, October 21, 2018 from 12 noon to 5 p.m.

If you’re around this Sunday in the greater  Lake Tahoe – Truckee, California area, you should check out the Great Truckee Pumpkin Race (there are many races so it’s not just a one and done event)!

Here are the details of the Truckee Pumpkin Race Car Race in Downtown Historic Truckee, California:

The Great Truckee Pumpkin Race – Oct 21 2018

  • When:  Sunday, October 21, 2018, Starting at 12 noon – 5  p.m.
  • Where:  Intersection of Spring Street and Jibboom Streets in Downtown Historic Truckee, CA
  • Parking:  Anywhere you can find a space
  • Cost:  Free Admission for Spectators, but if you want to build and race your pumpkin, the entry fee is $20 per pumpkin
  • Here are some rules to be aware of:
    • Craft your pumpkin race car using a single pumpkin
    • Use two independent axles through your pumpkin to attach wheels
    • No explosives or pyrotechnics
    • No prefabricated chassis (skateboard, stroller, etc…)
    • Decorate and make it fun.  There are points for style and decoration
    • Don’t follow the rules, be prepared for your pumpkin race car to be demolished!
  • Prizes:  Grand Prize $500, plus more awards

The Great Truckee Pumpkin Race - Oct 21 2018I went last year to the inaugural event, and I was hoping to see  super-sized pumpkins the size of a Mini Cooper car, with people driving them, but instead the entries were smaller-sized pumpkins that were designed to race down the hill on their own. 

It was fun, especially when an entry was disqualified and the pumpkin entry was destroyed (pumpkin smashing at its best)!

This event is hosted by the Tahoe Expedition Academy (TEA) and several sponsors, so it’s a chance to show off your car design skills.

The judges are there to enforce the rules, and be forewarned, from reading more about the event on-line, I think they are prepared to smash those pumpkins that don’t follow the rules, so make sure your pumpkin race car follows the rules.

Our local events are appropriate for all ages, and always embrace the season they are held in.  

In a season filled with all things pumpkin: pumpkin chocolate chip cookies, pumpkin lattes, and pumpkin spiced cream cheese just to name a few of my fall favorites, what could be more fun than a pumpkin car race just a few days before Halloween!

It’s that time of year when pumpkins, scare crows, and our leaves have changed color.

If you’re looking for a reason to be here in the North Lake Tahoe – Truckee area, and you want to check out some small town, local fun, check out the Tahoe City Fall Festival and Pumpkin Patch this Saturday, October 13, 2018.

This is a pre-Halloween annual event here in Tahoe City, California and will be at Commons Beach in downtown Tahoe City from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. 

There will be a number of activities and events. The children will have a great time with the Pumpkin Patch, carnival games, and activities including an obstacle course, pie eating, cake walk and so much more.

It wouldn’t be a Fall Festival with out a Costume Contest, so put on your best Halloween costume!
