RX Medication Take-Back Tahoe City -Truckee Oct 22 2016

RX Medication Take-Back Tahoe City -Truckee Oct 22 2016On Saturday, October 22, 2016, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. you’ll have the opportunity to drop off unused, unwanted, and/or expired medications at two locations in either the Truckee, or Tahoe City area.

The RX Medication Take-Back Day in Tahoe City and Truckee, CA is a great way to properly dispose of medications.

Most of us do a good job in trying to be good citizens of the planet.  We recycle, and re-use when ever possible.  However, many people think that by tossing old, or unwanted medications down the toilet, or into the regular trash system is the most effective way to get rid of these items and protect their household.

The problem with these methods is they can damage the environment and your local water supply.  Water treatment systems do remove and reduce most types of pharmaceuticals, but it is not a complete removal, and low levels of medications can still be in the water.

Treated water is often used for irrigation (plants for food) and wildlife animals drink this water.  The best thing everyone can do to reduce environmental medication pollution is to take their old, unwanted, and unused medications to a take-back RX medication location and have them dispose of it properly.

Over the years the Tahoe-Truckee area has collected and disposed of over 2,225 pounds of prescription medications through their take-back drug programs. Here is what they can accept and more importantly what they can’t accept!

Acceptable Items:

  • Prescriptions – including controlled substances (Remember to mark out any personal information)
  • Over-the-Counter Medications
  • Veterinary Medications

Unacceptable Items:

  • No needles, or lancets
  • No medical waste
  • No illicit drugs
  • No inhalers, hydrogen peroxide

RX Medication Take Back Locations:

  • 9 a.m. – 12 noon | Tahoe City – 300 North Lake Blvd (in front of the vacant fire station in downtown Tahoe City) North Tahoe Fire Protection District, Tahoe City, CA
  • 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. | Truckee – 11290 Donner Pass Road (in front of the Safeway) Truckee, CA
  • When:  Saturday, October 22, 2016
  • Cost:  FREE * FREE * FREE

If you are going to drop off unneeded, unwanted, or expired drugs, please put pills into a zip-lock bag and dispose of the empty pill bottles in the regular trash, or recycle them.

For more information on the RX Medication Take-Back Day in Tahoe City, or Truckee call 530.550-2309 or www.ttfwdd.com

If you can’t make either location, you can still utilize the permanent prescription drug collection bins located at the Truckee Police Department and Placer County Sheriff’s Office – Tahoe Station (10183 Truckee Airport Road in Truckee) from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Take advantage of this opportunity to clean out your medicine cabinet and get rid of all of your unused, unwanted, or expired medications for yourself and your household.  Don’t forget to check out your pets’ stash of old medications too!

Take advantage of the RX Medication Take-Back Day in Tahoe City and Truckee, CA on Saturday October 22, 2016!

IRONMAN Lake Tahoe, Sunday, September 21, 2014

September 20, 2014 By Laura Allen, Broker Associate, Tahoe Real Estate Agent, CA RE 01473598 | 530-414-1260

IRONMAN Lake Tahoe, Sunday, September 21, 2014

IRONMAN Lake Tahoe, Sunday, September 21, 2014The IRONMAN Lake Tahoe event will return to North Lake Tahoe this Sunday, September 21, 2014.

This is a big athletic and economic deal for Lake Tahoe.

It is a huge athletic event with over 2,700 athletes participating, over 3,000 volunteers, and an estimated 10,000+ visitors coming into the area for this special event.

IRONMAN Lake Tahoe is estimated to generate $8-$10 million in new economic revenue for our area.

If you’re not familiar with the IRONMAN events the IRONMAN event is the superman of triathlons, and the IRONMAN Lake Tahoe event will become one of strength, training, endurance and emotional stamina combining three physical events that all are done on one day – swimming, biking, and running.

New this year will be the addition of the IRONMAN 70.3 (half IRONMAN Event) in addition to the full IRONMAN Lake Tahoe competition.

Here’s the deal, in order to win IRONMAN Lake Tahoe you will need to swim 2.4 miles in Lake Tahoe, followed by a 112 mile bike ride that will take you to an elevation of over 7,000+ feet, followed by a 26.2 mile marathon run and the first one to cross the finish line wins!

If you want to watch the different stages you can go to each location, or you can watch on the Jumbotron the different events at the Downtown Truckee viewing party, which will begin at 9 a.m. and go until 2 p.m.

Swimming:  The swimming event will take place in Kings Beach, California on Sunday morning with the Pro’s starting the race off at 6:30 a.m.  IRONMAN participants will swim 2.4 miles in this first phase of the competition.  Once they complete the swim portion of the contest, athletes will move onto the Bike Course.

Bike Ride:  The biking event will begin in Kings Beach, California right after the swim portion is completed.  The IRONMAN participants will begin their 112 mile bike ride in Kings Beach and move along the North Shore of Lake Tahoe moving through the Tahoe Vista area, then through Carnelian Bay with a detour up through the Carnelian Woods Condominium Development, and then back down to Highway 28 into Tahoe City.

Once theyIRONMAN Biking get to Tahoe City, they will then move onto Highway 89 South and head towards Truckee, California.

As the bicyclists reach Truckee they will follow a course that will take them through the Truckee area including downtown historic Truckee, and then out on Highway 267 heading back toward Kings Beach with a detour through the Northstar area and a run by the Village at Northstar.

Once the bicyclists finish with the Northstar route they will climb back-up Brockway Summit (Highway 267) with an elevation of over 7,000+ feet above sea level, and then race back down to Kings Beach, where they repeat the entire bike route for a full second lap, and then on the third lap after they pass through Tahoe City and they will end their bike ride at the Village at Squaw Valley where they will transition to the final leg of the event – the marathon.

Run – Marathon:  Once athletes arrive in Squaw Valley, they will begin the last leg of their triathlon with a 26.2 mile race. That’s right, they will end the race on a full marathon.

Runners will start their journey at the Village at Squaw Valley running back down Squaw Valley Road, then up to the Resort at Squaw Creek, and then back down to Highway 89 South where runners will head towards Tahoe City along the bike trail that runs along the Truckee River.  Yes, there are sections of the route that runners will do more than once, but you get the idea of what they will do in the race.

IRONMAN Lake Tahoe Finish lLineRunners will turn around just before getting to Tahoe City, and then head back to Squaw Valley on the bike path an eventually the IRONMAN Lake Tahoe race will end at the Village at Squaw Valley in front of cheering fans!

Yes, that photo is the other side of the finish line from IRONMAN Lake Tahoe 2013, with a time posted on it of 10 hours 34 minutes and 1 second.

The IRONMAN Lake Tahoe 2014 winner was Chris McDonald, USA with a total finish time of 8 hours 55 minutes and 14 seconds!  He completed the swim portion in 54 minutes and 54 seconds, the biking portion in 4 hours, 55 minutes and 42 seconds, and the marathon in 2 hours, 59 minutes and 40 seconds! That’s impressive!!!

Click Here to See the IRONMAP Maps of each event course along helpful information on the events.

Traffic Delays:  On Sunday, September  21, 2014, the day of the IRONMAN Lake Tahoe event, volunteers will begin at 5 a.m. and the race will officially end at 12 midnight.  This all-day and late-night event will impact local area traffic and you need to expect travel times to be significantly longer as traffic will be re-directed, there will be single direction road traffic, roads will be closed, and athletes will be on the roads for most of the day.

If you’ll be in the great North Lake Tahoe area, or if you live in North Lake Tahoe – Truckee area remember that there will be significant  traffic delays, roads will be closed, and it will take longer to get around in the area.  For those Tahoe home and condo buyers this is not the day to go out and look at real estate, this is a day to sit back and watch world-class athletes perform!

Last year, I had the experience of seeing first hand the strength it took to cross the finish line.  I also had the opportunity to see the biking and marathon portions of the Lake Tahoe IRONMAN race first hand.  It took hours to complete the event, and for those that made it to the finish line, it was an amazing sight to see.

I admire your dedication as an athlete to compete in IRONMAN Lake Tahoe and I wish everyone the very best in this year’s event!

Check out the IRONMAN Lake Tahoe event this coming Sunday, September 21, 2014 at any of the event routes, or at the downtown Truckee viewing party!

November 28, 2013 By Laura Allen, Broker Associate, Tahoe Real Estate Agent, CA RE 01473598 | 530-414-1260

Shop Local Contest – North Lake Tahoe 2013

Shop Local Contest – North Lake Tahoe 2013It’s that time of year, when you’re making your shopping  lists and getting ready to shop, find unique gifts, and win great prizes in North Lake Tahoe, California.  The 7th Annual Shop Local Contest in North Lake Tahoe begins on black Friday, November 29, 2013.

There are so many reasons to shop local and support the North Lake Tahoe business community.  Not only are you supporting local employers, saving gas money by staying in the area, you’re also putting your money back into the local Lake Tahoe – Truckee community, as dollars spent here, tend to stay here.

According to the www.VisitTahoeCity.org web site in their 2012 Shop Local Contest information “Researchers have proven that for every $100 spent in independently owned stores, $68 returns to the community through taxes, payroll, and other expenditures. If you spend the same amount in a national chain, only $43 stays here and if you spend it online there is NO BENEFIT to our local community.”  Keep your holiday shopping dollars in our state, county, and community!”

Need more reasons to shop locally, how about a chance to win one over $4,000 in prizes:

Here’s how you can shop to win:

Contest Period – Black Friday, Friday, November 29, 2013 through January 1, 2014!

Pick up a Shop Local Contest Card at participating retailers in Tahoe City, Kings Beach, Incline Village, Village at Northstar, and the Village at Squaw Valley.

Participating retailers are listed online at www.ShopLocalNorthTahoe.com

For every $25 that you spend at a participating retailer, you’ll receive a sticker for your contest card.  Turn in your card in with four (4) stickers and you’re entered to win.  The good news, you can enter as many times as you want, as long as you have four (4) stickers on the cards!

All contest cards must be received by Friday, January 10, 2014 at the locations listed on the card and you will be entered into the drawing.

Drawing winners will be contacted and announced in January 2014.  For more information contact www.ShopLocalNorthTahoe.com or call 530.581.8727.

If you’ll be in the North Lake Tahoe area over the upcoming holidays, this is your chance to shop locally and win in the Shop Local Contest!
