North Lake Tahoe Best Spring Skiing of the Season | March 17 2018
Today might be St. Patrick’s Day and everyone is wearing green, in the North Lake Tahoe – Truckee area, we’re surrounded by beautiful white snow!
March is turning out to be a huge snow storm month and creating our best spring skiing conditions of the entire season.
In the past four days the Homewood Ski Resort on the West Shore of Lake Tahoe in Homewood, California has received 58″ at the base – lake level (that’s almost five feet of new snow).
I live just a few miles north of the resort, and it’s true, we’ve received a lot of snow with the recent storm, but also with the winter storm two weeks ago.
If you’ve been hoping for walk-ways that are lined with high, tunnel-like snow walls, this is your chance to have that experience.
As with all unique experiences (melting snow), we’re moving into our Spring season, (higher day-time temperatures), which means these conditions won’t last long.
There has never been a better time to come up to the North Lake Tahoe – Truckee area and enjoy our winter sports venues and activities.
Our local ski resorts, cross-country skiing, snow shoeing, sledding/tubing, or just making a snow-person in your back-yard this is the time to do it!
It’s hard to imagine how we get this type of snowfall, and what it is like to wake up each and every morning for 3 or 4 days and finding 1, 2, even 3 feet of new snow. Each day the snow just continues to compress with the weight of the new snow on top of it, which makes the rising snow height even that more impressive!
Want to see how much snow we receive? Here is progression on how much snow we’ve received:
Sunday, March 11, 2018:
Wednesday, March 14, 2018 after the this new series of snow storms began:
Friday, March 16, 2018 early morning – chairs would be covered by the end of the day:
Saturday, March 17, 2018 noon – chairs are completely buried in snow. Dig down about a foot and you’ll find the tops of the chairs. This snow won’t last as our spring temperatures will have a quicker melt-out than in January with frigid temperatures.
Perhaps I’ll photograph the melt out as we move into April and you can see the chairs reappear!
We probably won’t receive enough snow to bring us up to normal for California snow-pack and water-shed numbers, but this last two storms are going to help raise those numbers!
Our winter fun is far from over. March is typically one of our largest snow months, and our spring skiing and winter sports are really at their best at this time of year.
If you want to make the North Lake Tahoe your second home destination so you can take advantage of our year-around sports including our world-class skiing, and you don’t want to deal with snow removal, digging out your car, or any of the other details that comes with condo ownership here in our area consider the Resort at Squaw Creek.
Owning a condo-hotel is the perfect combination of hotel services and on-site support with home ownership. Use your unit exclusively, or take advantage of the on-site vacation rental company and enjoy the best of both worlds – owner use and generating income when you aren’t using your luxury unit.
The Resort at Squaw Creek offers a concierge-style luxury resort experience with valet service, downhill ski-in and ski-out facilities, cross-country skiing, ice skating along with access to a year-around out-door heated swimming pool, in-ground spa/hot tubs, and in the summer an 18 hole golf course, tennis courts, and shuttle service to the Village at Squaw Valley (no parking frustrations here) making the Resort at Squaw Creek a top choice for luxury Tahoe condo buyers.
The Resort offers a Tahoe experience for their owners that focuses on ease of ownership. As a benefit of being located in a condo-hotel setting you’ll have access to restaurants, bars, shops, professional day spa, and the option for room service (a favorite option of mine that very few developments offer).
Many Tahoe Buyer over-look the Resort at Squaw Creek because of the higher HOA fees. Do not let the monthly HOA fees scare you off!
In order to make a fair and complete analysis you must a full comparison from one complex to the next by adding in the cost of all utilities (most condo developments are not all inclusive), and the value for a year-around heated outdoor pool and the additional on-site support and service owners have available to them.
The Resort HOA fees include gas, electric (heating and air conditioning), Internet, Cable, water, sewer, garbage, the list goes on and on, so do not assume the fee is high, or out-of-line for our area for similar types of properties.
The monthly HOA fee, when compared to other developments offers a great value for condo/home owners that want to enjoy their second home in a carefree way that other development options do not offer.
Luxury condo buyers need to take into account the value of staff and support, not to mention the luxury vacation resort experience – getting away from the every day stresses and fully enjoying the Squaw Valley and North Lake Tahoe recreational experience.
